Fuzzy Inference Processing Patents (Class 706/8)
  • Patent number: 7685099
Abstract: Techniques for analyzing and modeling the frequency of queries are provided by a query analysis system. A query analysis system analyzes frequencies of a query over time to determine whether the query is time-dependent or time-independent. The query analysis system forecasts the frequency of time-dependent queries based on their periodicities. The query analysis system forecasts the frequency of time-independent queries based on causal relationships with other queries. To forecast the frequency of time-independent queries, the query analysis system analyzes the frequency of a query over time to identify significant increases in the frequency, which are referred to as “query events” or “events.” The query analysis system forecasts frequencies of time-independent queries based on queries with events that tend to causally precede events of the query to be forecasted.

  • Patent number: 6978258
Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention provide a method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for refining an approximate location of a mobile device using fuzzy logic reasoning. An approximate location of a device is determined. A rule base that comprises an ordered collection of rules is then read into memory, or loaded from a database. A set of imprecise inputs are captured for processing in the rules. However, prior to processing the inputs in the rules, the inputs are processed to determine a magnitude of participation of the input in the rules. The rules are then applied to the imprecise inputs based on the magnitude of participation to produce a logical product. A refined location is then computed based on the logical product.

Abstract: Machine operators rely on intuition and experience to evaluate vehicle performance. As we increasingly turn to automation, it is important to automatically evaluate sensor data and system performance. Fuzzy logic allows us to take advantage of domain knowledge to evaluate data and to describe a system linguistically. In this application a fuzzy quality module evaluates output from a noisy sensor. Abstract: For encoded membership functions used to identify atomic conditions defining antecedents of fuzzy inferences, and also for determining operands of the antecedents, corresponding stores are configured to store already available values of these encoded membership functions and of the operands. At the time of identification of a new value for the quantities, a check is made to see whether this value is already present in the corresponding store. If the outcome of this check is positive for encoded membership functions, pointers by which the encoded fuzzy inferences point to these functions is changed, so that the pointers are redirected towards the membership functions which are already stored. For operands of the antecedents, the check of the corresponding back-up store is carried out preferably based on the corresponding calculation values, the calculation of a new operand being disabled when the corresponding calculation parameters are already present in the corresponding back-up store.

Abstract: A method, and a system applying the method, for an exact and computationally efficient solution for defuzzification uses linear and non-linear weighted wedge approaches. Fuzzy numbers are used to represent parameters in a number of applications, including design dependent parameters (DDPs) for a project in particular. A defuzzification technique is used within the domain of fuzzy logic, fuzzy set theory, and multi-valued logic to overcome the problem of the lack of absolute ordering of a fuzzy number representation. The requirement profile for the DDP (the fuzzy representation of customer requirements) is compared to the anticipation profile for the DDP (the fuzzy representation of expected performance) in three dimensions. In two dimensions, the area of overlap between the DDP requirement profile and the DDP anticipation profile represents how well the customer requirements have been met.

Abstract: A system and method for selecting a training data set from a set of multidimensional geophysical input data samples for training a model to predict target data. The input data may be data sets produced by a pulsed neutron logging tool at multiple depth points in a cases well. Target data may be responses of an open hole logging tool. The input data is divided into clusters. Actual target data from the training well is linked to the clusters. The linked clusters are analyzed for variance, etc. and fuzzy inference is used to select a portion of each cluster to include in a training set. The reduced set is used to train a model, such as an artificial neural network. The trained model may then be used to produce synthetic open hole logs in response to inputs of cased hole log data.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for the development and implementation of virtual robot's (bot's) directed natural language interaction with computer users. Bots employing the present invention base natural language interaction on a predefined universe of discourse that is decomposed hierarchically into domains. A data structure provides a storage area for each domain. The data structure may reflect the hierarchical decomposition. Domain topics containing program code directing the bot's interaction are placed in domain storage areas. Pattern lists associate words expected to be “heard” by the bot with particular domain topics. Domain topics are provided, as appropriate, to direct a user's attention toward the instant domain's parent, siblings, or children, with lower topics in the hierarchy getting higher preference. Domain censoring and domain tiebreakers improve usability.

Abstract: A method of operating a fuzzy inference system to simplify a mesh capable of producing a high-quality approximate mesh and retaining good characteristics and appearance so that a good visual effect emerges. The invention utilizes a fuzzy inference system to integrate mesh attributes and estimate the cost in removing certain data, which serve as a criteria for mesh simplification. Hence, the invention is suitable for progressive meshes, multiresolution modeling rendering and progressive transmission on a network.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for aggregating constraints and/or preferences using an inference engine and an enhanced scripting language. Values of multiple factors and the interrelationships between the factors and their values are aggregated, and the result is used to tailor or direct the processing of a software program. This approach enables representing complex decisions in a straightforward manner, and avoids the need to modify the software program to account for new factors and/or new values thereof.

Abstract: A method of automatically generating a multi-variable fuzzy inference system using a Fourier series expansion. Sample sets are decomposed into a cluster of sample sets associated with given input variables. Fuzzy rules and membership functions are computed individually for each variable by solving a single input multiple outputs fuzzy system extracted from the set cluster. The resulting fuzzy rules and membership functions are composed and integrated back into the fuzzy system appropriate for the original sample set with a minimal computational cost. In addition, an overall system error can be related to errors at each stage of decomposition and composition, enabling error bounds or accuracy thresholds for each stage to be specified and ensuring the final precision of the resulting fuzzy system on the original sample set.

A configurable multi-stage mutation-based evolutionary algorithm optimally tunes the decision thresholds and internal parameters of fuzzy rule-based and case-based systems that decide the risk categories of insurance applications. The tunable parameters have a critical impact on the coverage and accuracy of decision-making, and a reliable method to optimally tune these parameters is critical to the quality of decision-making and maintainability of these systems.

Abstract: A fuzzy logic control arrangement is provided for an impedance match network of the type that is typically employed between a source of RF power at a given impedance, e.g., 50 ohms, and a non-linear load whose impedance can vary in magnitude and phase, e.g., an RF plasma. The fuzzy logic controller fuzzifies the phase and the magnitude error signals. The error signals are applied to a fuzzy logic interference function based on a number of fuzzy sets. The values of the error signals enjoy some degree of membership in one or more fuzzy sets. Fuzzy logic rules are applied to the phase and magnitude error signals. In a defuzzification stage, drive signal values are obtained for moving the tuning elements of the variable impedances. The drive signal values are weighted according to respective fuzzy inference functions for which the error signals enjoy membership. Then the weighted drive signal values are combined to produce output drive signals.
