  • Patent number: 10719072
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to method and apparatus for system problem diagnosis and recovery. According to embodiments of the present invention, problem symptom information in a system can be automatically monitored and collected BY a monitoring apparatus (or referred as to “agent”) deployed at the system side. Upon after receiving such information, the diagnosis apparatus, for example, may automatically determine a root cause of the problem by querying a backend knowledge repository, and possibly generate an executable software package for recovering the problem. If the diagnosis apparatus determines that the currently available information is insufficient to determine a creditable enough root cause and/or is insufficient to generate the software package for recovering the problem, the diagnosis apparatus may interactively control the monitoring apparatus to collect desired additional information. In this way, the efficiency and accuracy of problem diagnosis and recovery may be improved.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a communication network is provided. The method includes capturing network data from network traffic of the communication network by a plurality of probes monitoring the communication network. The method further includes detecting by lightweight analysis a data packet of the captured network data that includes information related to a transactional procedure failure transacted by an end-user device and determining an identity of the end-user device. The method further includes sharing the identity of the end-user device with other probes of the plurality of probes, adding the end-user device's identity to respective whitelists associated with the probes of the plurality of probes, and performing, for end-user device identities included in the respective whitelists, detailed analysis of network data during a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 7349889
Abstract: A method and system for diagnosing a fault that includes a decision tree having a plurality of decision points wherein at least some of the plurality of decision points terminate in a resolution point representing a diagnosis for the fault. Also included is a plurality of queries each having at least a first response and a second response where each of the plurality of queries being associated with one of the plurality of decision points. The system also includes a knowledge base that includes a plurality of first images where each of the plurality of first images illustrate one of the first responses. A user interface is included for presenting the plurality of queries and the illustrative first images to a user. The user navigates the decision tree by responding to at least some of the plurality of queries by viewing the illustrative first images and basing a selection between the first response and the second response associated with said at least some of said queries on said illustrative first images.

  • Patent number: 6947797
Abstract: A system (830) and method (800) for diagnosing a malfunctioning machine. A fault event is selected (806) together with sequential operating parameter data (808) from a selectively focused time interval about the fault event for evaluation of a machine (810). The selectively focused time interval may include data occurring just before, just after, or spanning the fault event. Characterizing information such as slope, rate of change, and absolute sign of the data may be derived (809) from the operating parameter data over the selectively focused time interval and used in the diagnosis. The fault event and operating parameter data may be compared to existing cases in a case database (834). A set of rules (817) or candidate anomalies (841) may be executed over the operating parameter data to further improve the accuracy of the diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 6892111
Abstract: Functional blocks (a numerical control unit 22, servo control unit 26, PLC control unit 24, sizing control unit 23, sampling control unit 25, and display control unit 21) carry out their respective functions of control processing. Numerical control data, PLC control data, and sizing data as details of numerical control processing, PLC control processing, and sizing processing, respectively, are sampled and recorded by sampling control processing. The three kinds of recorded data are displayed together on one display unit 80 by display control processing when a display instruction is given by an operator of a control system 10 through an input control unit 90. Thus, an operator of the control system 10 can carry out the work of tracing the cause of the trouble of a machine tool 70 and of examining efficient machining processes of the machine tool 70 by simultaneously watching the control data displayed on one display unit 80. This provides a control system of the machine tool that can improve workability.

  • Patent number: 6546350
Abstract: The invention is directed to a system and a method for the configuration and/or parameterization of diagnostic devices for test objects. The system includes a first data object having a collection of technological test object parameters of the test object and its components, and a second data object having a collection of technological parameters of hardware components of the diagnostic device. The system further includes a first program object containing data sentences for the assignment of at least test object parameters and technological parameters of hardware components, and a second program object for processing the data sentences assigned in the first program object. Via the data and program objects, a knowledge base is created that results in a configuration mainly automatically controlled by the knowledge of the system and/or parameterization of the diagnostic device including the test structure and evaluation. In this manner, the cost of such preparations is significantly reduced.

  • Patent number: 6161101
Abstract: Method and apparatus for computer-aided assessment of organizational process or system. Method and apparatus are adapted to display questions on a computer to an assessor, who then inputs numerical and/or textual inputs relative to the assessor's perception of the process or system. Filtering techniques inhibit entry of unsupported numerical and/or textual inputs which may be untrue and/or exaggerated. Questions used in combination with additional questions provide more accurate assessment of the system or process, where the question combinations are already existing in a database. Evaluations of collected information are performed and additional corrective action questions are asked to identify degrees of risk and areas of weakness of the process or system.
