Abstract: A system and method for ensuring consistency in RAID storage array metadata is disclosed. In one embodiment, the RAID storage array metadata residing in one or more drives is consolidated onto a metadata base volume that is in sync with the current RAID storage array metadata. Further, a point-in-time (PIT) image of the consolidated RAID storage array metadata in the metadata base volume, a system configuration (SC) file, and customer support data (CSD) are obtained. The PIT image, the SC file and CSD can be obtained based on a predetermined time interval and/or upon a change on the RAID storage array metadata. Furthermore, a delta change between two substantially sequentially obtained PIT images, SC files and CSD are determined. In addition, a consistency check (CC) is performed on the RAID storage array metadata based on the determined delta change.

Abstract: A data synchronization method for a mobile device is provided for effectively synchronizing metadata between a database and a file system of the mobile device. A metadata synchronization method of the present invention includes resetting, when an external storage is connected, an effective value of metadata and a global variable; comparing, when the external storage is disconnected, each file information item managed in a file system with each metadata item managed in a database; replacing, when a file information item includes a metadata item, the effective value of the metadata item with a value of the global variable; and deleting metadata items with an effective value not identical to the value of the global variable. The data synchronization method of the present invention facilitates synchronization of the metadata and file information of the data stored in the external storage device.

Abstract: A system is provided for mobile device file management. A client application determines whether a requested file associated with a file identifier is stored in a file system in a mobile device. If the file is not stored in the file system, the client application retrieves the file via over-the-air communication, stores the file with storage information in the file system, and provides the file for presentation on a user interface on the mobile device. If a background application determines that the client application is inactive and that a current time and the storage information indicate to refresh the provided file, the background application retrieves at least apart of a refreshed file via over-the-air communication. If the background application determines that the provided file is not the same version as the refreshed file, the background application stores the refreshed file with refreshed storage information in the file system.

Abstract: A continuous glucose monitoring system including a sensor configured to detect one or more glucose levels, a transmitter operatively coupled to the sensor, the transmitter configured to receive the detected one or more glucose levels, the transmitter further configured to transmit signals corresponding to the detected one or more glucose levels, and a receiver operatively coupled to the transmitter configured to receive transmitted signals corresponding to the detected one or more glucose levels, and methods thereof, are disclosed. In one aspect, the transmitter may be configured to transmit a current data point and at least one previous data point, the current data point and the at least one previous data point corresponding to the detected one or more glucose levels.

An identity of the persona is determined and one or more rules associated with the identity of the persona is determined. Presence information of the persona is obtained. The communication is sent to the persona in accordance with the determination of the identity of the persona, the one or more rules associated with the identity, and the presence information of the persona.

Abstract: An information-processing apparatus, reproduction apparatus, communication method and computer program are disclosed wherein an evaluation value can be added automatically to contents stored in a storage apparatus or medium. The information-processing apparatus comprising an acquisition section which acquires, from a portable reproduction apparatus which is capable of reproducing contents data, reproduction history information of the contents data in the portable reproduction apparatus. An evaluation value arithmetic operation section arithmetically operates a computed evaluation value corresponding to the content data based on the reproduction history information acquired by the acquisition section. A transfer section transfers the computed evaluation value arithmetically operated by the evaluation value arithmetic operation section to the portable reproduction apparatus.

Abstract: An improved hierarchical user interface for a handheld media player is disclosed, which classifies media assets that an on-line merchandiser intends to sell to the user as hidden files. The files are invisible to a user without a user's intended and persistent interaction with a user input device of the player. The media assets that an on-line merchandiser intends to sell to the user are stored in the unused storage capacity of the player and are organized in a single structure as those media assets owned by the user. A method includes a means that a user actuates a user input device until the hidden files are displayed. Furthermore, a method is disclosed to utilize a file storage system of a portable media player more effectively and efficiently. The unused storage capacity is then used by the on-line merchandiser to store media assets, which have not been purchased by the user at the moment when they are received by the media player.

Abstract: A system and method for managing an on board entertainment system is disclosed. The system and method can wirelessly receive music files from a computer and store those music files on an on board unit associated with a motor vehicle. The system and method can also include provisions to associate music information with a received music file and can include provisions to manage the music collection on board a motor vehicle.

Abstract: In general, in one aspect, a method is disclosed that includes storing a superset of data available to a client having non volatile memory (NVM) on a distant hard drive. A subset of the data is maintained in the NVM on the client. The client controls the data stored on the distant hard drive and the data maintained in the NVM. A single merged directory/file tree image is generated for the content maintained in the NVM and the distant hard drive that is accessible to a user of the client and applications running thereon.

Abstract: Computer-readable media are described to delete a wireless user's website-specific data, or cookies from a wireless-network gateway. A control port is provided at the wireless-network gateway and is configured to receive commands to delete a user's cookies from databases associated with the wireless-network gateway. A command message including a command to delete the user's website-specific data is received from the user's mobile device. The command message includes a unique user identifier to assist in identifying the user's website-specific data. The user's website-specific data are also labeled with the unique user identifier when stored in the databases. The user's website-specific data are identified in the databases using the unique identifier and are deleted. A status indication may be communicated to the mobile device and to the user to indicate successful deletion of the user's cookies.

Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing data records between multiple databases is provided. Each database includes data records that are modified to include at least one pair of synchronization parameters. In a two-database system including a first database and a second database, each data record is modified to include synchronization parameters for both the first and second databases. When an update is made to a data record at one of the databases, an update message is transmitted to the other database including both synchronization parameters from the database where the update is made, along with the updated data record. An efficient master-slave configuration between the databases then enables either database to resolve conflicts without further communications.

A determination is made that an object corresponding to a client node has to be stored. A determination is made as to whether the object has already been stored in the server node by the one selected client node. The object is stored at the server node, in response to determining that the object has not already been stored in the server node by the one selected client node.

Abstract: Techniques to cross-synchronize data are described. An apparatus may comprise a cross-synchronization component to synchronize multiple data items for different application programs between multiple client devices synchronized using multiple synchronization circuits. The cross-synchronization component may determine whether changes to the multiple data items made at a first client device are propagated to a second client device using consistency information maintained by a consistency group item for a consistency group including the data items. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Synchronization architectures, methods, systems, and computer readable media are described. One exemplary embodiment includes a first software component which is configured to cause retrieval and storage of structured data for a first data class from a first store of the structured data on a device, such as a first data processing system, and is configured to synchronize structured data for the first data class in the first store with structured data of the first data class in a second store on a host, such as a second data processing system. The first software component is separate from an application software which provides a user interface to allow a user to access and edit the structured data. The first software component synchronizes the structured data through a second software component which interfaces with the host and the device and which controls an order of synchronizing and a plurality of data classes including the first data class.

Abstract: A system for secure information storage and delivery includes a vault repository that includes a secure vault associated with a user, wherein the secure vault is associated with a service level including at least one of a data type or a data size limit associated with the secure vault, the secure vault being adapted to receive and at least one data entry and securely store the at least one data entry if the at least one of a size or a type of the at least one data entry is consistent with the service level. A mobile vault server coupled to the vault repository creates a mobile vault on a mobile device based on the secure vault and is capable of authenticating the mobile device based on user authentication information. The mobile vault server includes a mobile device handler that communicates with the mobile device.

Abstract: System and method for notifying a user status of communications between a server and the user having one or more user devices in a communication network are disclosed. The system includes a server for communicating with the user, where the server includes a connected-data-set and the one or more user devices share portions of the connected-data-set, logic for monitoring communications between the server and the one or more user devices for a predetermined set of notification conditions, and logic for sending a notification message to the one or more user devices when a notification condition is detected.

Abstract: This invention relates to computer implemented methods and systems for content mobilization, and in particular, methods and systems for mobilization of video, music, photos and other media, including processes for mobile search, mobile messaging, building a mobile content library, and combinations thereof. Content mobilization may be initiated by entry of search parameters or keywords and followed by retrieval of search results (e.g. videos, images, audio files) from online source(s). Upon selection of a content item by user, the process dynamically retrieves the media from online source. In another embodiment, data from the portable device, such as demographic data, is also downloaded to the exhibitor computer.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to synchronization utilizing one or more optimizations through the utilization of metadata. For several embodiments of the present invention, one method for optimizing synchronization is to reduce the overhead required for said synchronization by having each peer only tracking changes for itself and other peers within its change community (or communities) (a.k.a., “Intra-Community-Only Change Tracking Optimization”). For certain embodiments of the present invention, another method for optimizing synchronization is to not create synchronization overhead until required. For numerous embodiments of the present invention, yet another method for optimizing synchronization is to minimize redundant use of a partner's unique global ID—a large and cumbersome number—and to instead maintain a table that cross-references each partner (and its unique global ID) with a smaller and much less cumbersome partner key.

Abstract: A method and system for restoring device personality after failure. Specifically, the present invention discloses a method and system for automated personality transfer in a wireless enabled handheld device. In one embodiment, the present invention automatically extracts personality information that is unique and critical to the proper functionality of an electronic device. A personality file containing the personality information is created and stored on the electronic device. The personality file can be then transferred to another electronic device for archival purposes. Thereafter, should the personality information be lost due to device failure, embodiments of the present invention provide for restoring the electronic device back to its original operating state by importing the personality information back into the electronic device.

Abstract: Techniques for remote redirection are discussed. Redirection may be used to mimic a local user experience on a remote system. Redirection may include redirecting a pointer file, such as a shortcut, to account for remote access to a source file designated in the pointer file. The pointer file may be remapped so that the pointer file's file path accounts for a path from the remote access to the source file. Operating system (OS) information may be forwarded to the accessing system so that the redirected pointer file may be presented in accordance with the remote system's (OS). Redirection may be used to present a directory remotely in accordance with operating system running on the system being accessed.

A synchronization arbitrator is associated with the personal information system. The synchronization arbitrator is adapted to register all of a user's personal devices which store the user's personal information. The synchronization arbitrator also initiates a data synchronization function with each registered data storage device, employing the synchronization protocol appropriate for each device. The personal information management system may comprise a vehicular mounted personal data storage system.

Abstract: An approach is provided for automatic controlled value expansion of information. A value expansion controller detects a request at a device to perform an information operation on a set of data elements of an information space, wherein the request identifies the set by a name and the information operation applies to each data element within the set. The value expansion controller intercepts the request based on the detection and determines the location of the data elements within a communication network based on the name. The value expansion controller retrieves the data elements from the location and populates an expansion table with the retrieved data elements, wherein the expansion table is correlated to the set. The value expansion controller performs the information operation on each data element in the expansion table and causes transmission of one or more results of the information operation to the device.

Abstract: Systems, methods, computer program product embodiments and combinations and sub-combinations thereof for data caching and cache synchronization are described herein. An embodiment includes comparing data in a cache with data stored at a data source and determining database operations needed to synchronize one or more partitions of the cache with the data source. Each cache partition is associated with mobile business object (MBO) metadata of a distinct mobile device and the determined database operations are executed to synchronize the partitions with the data source. By refreshing only those partitions which are pertinent to a given device, embodiments of the invention may increase parallelism by allowing multiple partitions to refresh concurrently. The embodiment further comprises reviewing a caching policy associated with the cache. The caching policy may be selected in a manner that reduces data traffic and redundant requests on the data source.

Bookmarks refer to user-defined and nicknamed URLs as local parameters in Browser software, also sometimes known as “Favorites”. Real-time synchronization of bookmarks is accomplished through an application of “push technology”. Upon identifying a change in the set of bookmarks of a communications device, the communications device transmits an indication of the change to the network. The network uses push technology to push the indication to the other communications device. Once the indication is received by the other communications device, the other communications device updates its set of bookmarks according to the indication thereby achieving synchronization. Synchronization may be performed between two or more devices.

The data file may include picture data and the key file may include an index to the picture data. Also, the method may include generating a synchronization set on the computing device wherein the synchronization set includes one or more picture files to be stored on the mobile electronic device. The one or more databases may be transformed to one or more updated databases, wherein the transforming includes updating the key file to index pictures included in the synchronization set and updating the data file to include thumbnails of the pictures included in the synchronization set. The one or more updated databases may be transmitted to the mobile electronic device.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for obtaining content objects in a communication system. In the method is obtained at least one search criterion at a first node. At least one entity entry is determined from an entity contact information list. An identity of a second network node is determined from the entity entry. An address is determined for the second network node using the identity. A search is submitted to the second network node. The search criteria are matched to a number of metadata objects to obtain result metadata objects, from which is provided at least a content object identifier to the first network node. The first network node obtaining a content object using said content object identifier from a third network node to the first network node.

Abstract: The inclusion of metadata within an application description file allows a virtual machine to create an application descriptor file that may be registered with the mobile device operating system so that an icon associated with the application description file may be displayed in the main ribbon. Execution of an application defined by the application definition file may then be initiated by the selection, by the user, of the icon that is associated with the application definition file. This improves over the situation wherein execution of the application defined by the application definition file would require a selection of the runtime environment for the application and then the selection of the application.
