Database Backup Patents (Class 707/640)
  • Patent number: 10884874
Abstract: Federated restore of availability group database replicas is described. A system receives a restore request associated with an availability group, and identifies a primary node in a cluster of nodes, the primary node storing a primary database replica associated with the availability group. The system identifies a secondary node in the cluster of nodes, the secondary node storing a secondary database replica associated with the availability group. The system removes the primary database replica and the secondary database replica from the availability group. The system simultaneously restores a backup database replica, associated with the availability group, as the primary database replica in the primary node and the secondary database replica in the secondary node. The system adds the restored primary database replica and the restored secondary database replica to the availability group.

  • Patent number: 10579265
Abstract: A digital asset management application stores a mixture of original and lossy assets in a user's local storage resource. This mixture is dynamically adjusted in response to usage patterns and availability of local storage. If local storage is limited, the number of original assets stored locally is reduced. If local storage resources are critically low, lossy assets are purged. A user's interactions with his/her digital assets are monitored, and assets that are perceived to be less important to a user are purged from local storage before assets that are perceived to be more important. An asset may be deemed to be “important” based on any number of relevant criteria, such as user selection, user rating, or user interaction. Coordinating asset allocation between local and cloud-based storage resources requires little or no active management on behalf of the user, thus transparently providing the user with the benefits of cloud storage.

  • Patent number: 10572441
Abstract: A method of data recovery of a remaining set of original data from a partial set of the original data. The original data is organized by a geometry having a locality function. Each original datum occupies a point of the geometry and has a corresponding distance to each other point of the geometry as defined by the locality function. The original datum further has corresponding values. The method includes, for each remaining datum of the remaining set: identifying a family of points of the geometry corresponding to members of the partial set local to the remaining datum by using the locality function; estimating the corresponding values of the remaining datum by using a peridynamic differential operator on the corresponding values of each of the members of the partial set in the family of points; and storing the estimated values of the remaining datum on a nonvolatile storage device.

  • Patent number: 10521308
Abstract: An illustrative approach to managing snapshots streamlines how and when snapshots are generated in a storage management system, such that fewer snapshots may be generated without diminishing the scope of data protection. A novel unified-snapshot storage policy may govern snapshots for any number of subclients. A unified-snapshot job based on the unified-snapshot storage policy enables the illustrative storage management system to automatically discover relevant components and generate at most one snapshot per target logical unit number (“LUN”) in a storage array. Each snapshot may comprise the data of any number of subclients and/or clients in the storage management system. Accordingly, one unified-snapshot job may yield a minimum but sufficient number of snapshots comprising data of all subclients associated with the governing unified-snapshot storage policy. An enhanced storage manager may manage the unified-snapshot jobs.

  • Patent number: 10503605
Abstract: A system and method are presented that identify new, modified, unchanged, and deleted files in an incremental backup through a file list maintained on the backup destination. The FileList is a flat file in which file information about each file on a source node is stored sequentially into the file. During a subsequent incremental backup, the FileList is read sequentially from the backup destination and is used to generate a search tree. A hash value based on the file path is the key to the search tree, with the file's modified time and size being hashed together to form the value of the tree's key-value pair. Files are examined on the source and compared to the key-value pairs in the search tree. Status information in the search tree is modified to indicate discovered files. Unmodified status information identifies files that have been deleted since the previous backup.

Abstract: Techniques are described for creating a virtual machine clone of a physical host computing device. A hosted hypervisor running within a host operating system on the physical computing device receives a request to boot a virtual machine clone of the device. In response to the request, the hosted hypervisor synthesizes a virtual disk that is comprised of a master boot record of the host computing device, a read-only snapshot obtained from a volume snapshot service of the host operating system and a delta virtual disk for recording changes. The hosted hypervisor then launches the virtual machine clone by attaching the synthesized virtual disk to the virtual machine clone and booting the guest operating system from the master boot record and the snapshot. Any changes made during the use of the virtual machine clone can be automatically propagated back and applied to the physical host device.
