Abstract: A secure memory device and method for obtaining and securely storing information relating to a life moment is disclosed. In the method, a parameter is received and inputted in a search heuristic. A search is made for the information according to the search heuristic and, upon finding the information, metadata is appended to the information. The information and metadata is then stored in a secure memory location. The secure memory location has a housing fabricated to withstand a predetermined stress, a detachable connection to a computer and a memory that stores the information and protects it from unauthorized deletion. In some embodiments, the stored information may be selectively deleted in a safe and controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 8694476
Abstract: An archive cluster application runs across a redundant array of independent nodes. Each node runs an archive cluster application instance comprising a set of software processes: a request manager, a storage manager, a metadata manager, and a policy manager. The request manager manages requests for data, the storage manager manages data read/write functions, and the metadata manager facilitates metadata transactions and recovery. The policy manager implements policies, which are operations that determine the behavior of an “archive object” within the cluster. The archive cluster application provides object-based storage. It associates metadata and policies with the raw archived data, which together comprise an archive object. Object policies govern the object's behavior in the archive. The archive manages itself independently of client applications, acting automatically to ensure that object policies are valid.

One embodiment comprises the steps of loading documents into a database as individual components or items; establishing a custodian for each document instance; categorizing its content into a plurality of categories; assigning retention periods to the content by category; and continuously monitoring retention policies according to the assigned retention periods. Any database capable of storing de-duplicated data can be adapted to implement embodiments of the invention. One embodiment utilizes codified algorithms to cross-match one or more retention policies with each document instance in the system based on the role of the custodian held at the time the instance was created and retained and/or the content or category of the content to which the document refers. • Patent number: 8504595
Abstract: Example methods and apparatus associated with data de-duplication for a global coherent de-duplication repository are provided. In one example a request related to data de-duplication is transmitted to a plurality of nodes associated with the global coherent de-duplication repository. Responses to the request are received from at least a subset of nodes in the plurality of nodes. Affinity scores are assigned to nodes of the subset of nodes based, at least in part, on affinity data from the responses. A node is selected to perform the request related to de-duplication from the subset of nodes of the plurality of nodes based, at least in part, on the affinity score assigned to the nodes.

Abstract: A resource group attribute is assigned to a storage resource object representing at least one of the plurality of storage resources in a system configuration of the computing storage environment. The resource group attribute includes a selectable value indicating a resource group object to which the storage resource object is associated. A resource group label is provided in the resource group object and is a string having no wildcards. A user resource scope is assigned to a user ID and a value of the user resource scope provides a mechanism to match to the resource group label. The user ID is authorized to perform one of creating, deleting, modifying, controlling, and managing storage resources with an association to a resource group.

Abstract: One or more devices within a transaction services hub receive, from a first network device, provisioning information for customers of a transaction services network. The one or more devices also receive, from a second network device, first session data for transaction services using an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and receive, from a third network device, second session data for transaction services using a voice network. The one or more devices load, in a database, the provisioning information, the first session data, and the second session data, and merge, based on the provisioning information, the first session data and the second session data. The merged data is retrieved to support request from administrators and customers via other components of the transaction services hub.

Abstract: Embodiments presented herein provide systems and methods for managing data decay. A system is provided for maintaining metadata about data attributes or relationships between data. A data decay engine can read the metadata and perform a decay calculation. The type of decay calculation can be associated with the type of data or be determined from user inputs. The decay engine can provide a score as to the staleness of the data. An update engine can determine specific data attributes that may require updating. The update engine may be able to update the data from external data sources.

Abstract: Techniques for generating reports from cached data are provided. When a report is requested, a date and time when data in the report data cache was generated is compared with a date and time when data was collected by each of one or more data collectors that gather data used to generate the report data. If one of the data collectors has collected data since the data for the report in the report data cache has been updated, the data for the requested report will be regenerated from the data collected from each of the data collectors associated with the report and the regenerated data inserted into the report data cache. Subsequent requests for the report can be satisfied by generating the report using the data stored in the report data cache rather than regenerating the report data each time a request for a report is received.

Abstract: Deduplication in a network storage environment includes, for files stored in a network, determining a location constraint status specified by a compliance agreement for each of the files. Location constraint statuses include a location of persistent residency and no residency restriction. Deduplication also includes selecting a file from the files in the network and identifying corresponding redundant files, the selected file and the corresponding redundant files representing a set. Deduplication further includes determining the location constraint status for each of the files in the set. For the files in the set having a location constraint status specifying a location of persistent residency, the deduplication includes retaining a master copy at the respective location of persistent residency, and removing the corresponding redundant files from the network.

  • Patent number: 8442948
Abstract: Example apparatus, methods, and computers prevent a split brain scenario in a pair of high availability servers by maintaining single writer access to a resource. One example method includes monitoring control of an arbitration (ARB) block by an active file system manager (FSM). An active file system portmapper (FSMPM) simultaneously requests permission from a standby FSM to restart a dead-man timer. The active FSM attempts to maintain control of the ARB block before expiration of the dead-man timer. If the active FSM is unable to maintain control of the ARB block before expiration of the dead-man timer, a hardware reset of an apparatus running the active FSM is forced. Therefore, the active FSMPM and standby FSM negotiate for additional time to maintain control of the ARB block to maintain single writer access and avoid unnecessary hardware resets.

Abstract: A method of handling performance data comprising a set of events is described. An event record for each event is stored as a set of blocks, each block containing one or more attributes of the event. The storage space occupied by each event record in is then reduced in discrete steps, each step including a reduction process that reduces the size of one of the set of blocks. This enables the provision of intermediate records between events and counters so that new event records contain complete details of their event, older event records contain less information, and even older event records may contain only high-level (counter) information.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and devices for providing off-line indexing to client-based software development environments. For example, an integrated development environment (IDE) may be provided, and a request for indexing of source code available to the IDE caused to be transmitted to a remote indexing server. In response, an index of the source code created by the remote indexing server is received and stored at an accessible storage location. In response to detecting at least part of an identifier received by the IDE, the index is accessed and information associated with the identifier retrieved. The associated information can then be displayed via the IDE. Prior to transmitting the indexing request to the remote indexing server, a computing device executing the IDE may first determine whether an index for the source code is already available to the computing device, and only transmit the request if no available index is found.

A determination is made as to whether a retention rule is provided for the source file. In response to determining that one retention rule is provided for the source file, a versioned file name is generated, wherein a versioned file comprises the source file at a point-in-time. A command is transmitted to a file system to copy the source file data to a versioned file having the generated versioned file name and the generated versioned file name is added to a retention index file. The retention index file is processed to determine whether to purge versioned files according to the retention rule provided for the source file.
