  • Patent number: 7953706
Abstract: A method and system for reducing storage requirements and speeding up storage operations by reducing the storage of redundant data includes receiving a request that identifies one or more data objects to which to apply a storage operation. For each data object, the storage system determines if the data object contains data that matches another data object to which the storage operation was previously applied. If the data objects do not match, then the storage system performs the storage operation in a usual manner. However, if the data objects do match, then the storage system may avoid performing the storage operation.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems of retaining instant message content related to usage of one or more instant message applications subject to obligations of retention. A user request to access the one or more instant message applications results in requesting a instant message master log on credential from the user and mapping the IM master log on credential of the user with instant message application specific log on credentials of the user associated with at least one of the IM applications to give a centralized and controlled access to the user who may be subject to obligations for retention of IM communications. An IM session of at least one of the one or more instant message applications may also be opened according to IM application settings rules associated with the IM master log on of the user. The IM communication generated during the session is stored based on the instant message retention rule associated with the IM master log on of the user.

Abstract: A system and method for providing cost-effective policy-based data archiving triggered by end-user activity. When an end-user makes a request to store data, the storage device communicates with a storage policy rules software engine. The storage policy rules software engine compares the user activity to a set of previously established rules and then invokes a translation software engine to translate the intended actions into instructions specific for a particular data archiving product in order for that application to archive data as intended.

Abstract: A system (100) is provided for storing knowledge, information and data (KID). The system includes a plurality of sources of KID (20), at least one receiver of KID (30) from the plurality of sources, a universal knowledge, information and data store (UKIDS 160) and an interface (150) coupling the receiver and the UKIDS. The interface provides a plurality of logical partitions (200) for storing KID within the UKIDS. In one embodiment, a first level of the logical partitions segregates information into personal and professional KID. A plurality of second personal levels under the first personal level (210) segregates KID storage into a teams of people subset (212), an activities and organization subset (214) and an organization and administration subset (216). A plurality of second professional levels under said first professional level (220) segregates KID storage into a clients subset (230), an output subset (250), a teams subset (270) and an administration subset (290).

Abstract: An enterprise management system includes transaction/analytic applications and an archiving system in which data object lifecycles are pre-computed when the data object is created by the transaction application or analytic application. Having pre-computed the data lifecycle via the transaction/analytic applications, an archiving system need not re-determine whether the criteria for archiving are met. When the archiving system is initiated, the archiving system may identify the data objects having lifecycle dates that match the current date and archive them directly.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing database applications are disclosed. A system includes a fabric that identifies a set of data-tier application components. Each of the data-tier application components includes a logical representation of a collection of database elements. The fabric identifies a set of database runtime resources hosting the set of data-tier application components, and the fabric identifies computing resources used by the set of database runtime resources to host the set of data-tier application components. The system also includes a management point to receive a fabric policy. One or more actions of the fabric policy are automatically applied to affected entities identified by the fabric to bring fabric elements into compliance with the fabric policy.
