  • Patent number: 9348920
Abstract: Systems and techniques for indexing and/or querying a database are described herein. Discrete sections and/or segments from documents may be determined by a concept indexing system. The segments may be indexed by concept and/or higher-level category of interest to a user. A user may query the segments by one or more concepts. The segments may be analyzed to rank the segments by statistical accuracy and/or relatedness to one or more particular concepts. The rankings may be used for presentation of search results in a user interface. Furthermore, segments and/or documents may be ranked based on recency decay functions that distinguish between segments that maintain their relevance over time in contrast with temporal segments whose relevance decays quicker over time, for example.

  • Patent number: 8990160
Abstract: Indexing functionality can be shifted to one or more backup servers in a backup system. In one implementation, a backup server can receive one or more data backups from one or more production servers. The backup server can then build or create one or more indexes at the backup server, which correspond to the contents of the one or more data backups. In one implementation, one or more management agents can also identify any appropriate components that might be needed to read the backup data at the backup server pursuant to building the one or more indexes. In either case, the one or more indexes can be used for a wide range of purposes, such as to manage data usage quotas at the one or more production servers, as well as to retrieve data from the backup server based on specific file requests.

  • Patent number: 8843448
Abstract: Renamed directory handling for incremental file migration is described. A directory is stored in a storage device. An inode number associated with the directory in a directory table is identified. A determination is made whether the inode number equals an inode number associated with another directory in the directory table. At least one of a file and a subdirectory associated with the directory in the file system is stored into the directory in the storage device if the inode number equals the inode number associated with another directory in the directory table.

  • Patent number: 8751457
Abstract: Mobile devices such as cell phones, “smart” phones, personal data assistants (PDA's) and the like are equipped for accessing and storing all types of media, including movies, music, software applications, as well as copious amounts of associated data. Accordingly, a need exists for methods, apparatuses and computer program products that assist mobile device users in archiving data, configuring the data, and restoring the data to the same device, or a new mobile device running the same or different operating system. Embodiments of the claimed invention address the above needs and/or achieve other advantages by providing systems for archiving data on a mobile electronic device on a plurality of data storage media, and by providing similar means of restoring the archived data to the same or different mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8694525
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for performing index joins. A database management application may receive an instruction to perform an index join operation between columns in a first table and a second table, wherein the database management application does not have direct access to an index of the first table or the second table for performing the index join operation. A query may be automatically generated by the database management application, wherein the query includes a where clause equality expression that equates an indexed column of the second table with a parameter or updatable constant. The database management application may substitute a value from a row of the first table may for the parameter or updatable constant, and cause the query to be executed on the index of the second table to fetch any one or more rows of the second table that satisfy the where clause by having an index value that matches the substituted value.

  • Patent number: 8655845
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for reducing duplicate information. Diagnostic data associated with a new incident that has occurred is received and at least one new incident dump file is created for the new incident that includes some or all of the diagnostic data. The diagnostic data in the at least one new incident dump file is compared to diagnostic data in at least one corresponding preceding incident dump file. Responsive to the at least one new incident dump file comprising diagnostic data that is different from the at least one corresponding preceding incident dump file, at least one comparison dump file is generated that comprises only the differences in the at least one new incident dump file that are not contained in the at least one corresponding preceding incident dump file. A report package that includes the at least one comparison dump file is then transmitted to a support system.

  • Patent number: 8577875
Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting search results ordered, at least in part, based upon indicated user preferences are provided. User preferences for one potential search result over another that are free of position bias are obtained utilizing random relative order interchange of juxtaposed, ranked search results. Upon receipt of a search query, a determination is made to present at least a portion of search results satisfying the received query ordered based on user preferences, whether or not the order coincides with that determined using a ranking algorithm. In this way, presented search results are ordered, at least in part, according to user preferences, thus improving the relevance of the output relative to standard ranking algorithms alone.

  • Patent number: 8578490
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for detecting intrusions in a host system on a network. The intrusion detection system comprises an analysis engine configured to use continuations and apply forward- and backward-chaining using rules. Also provided are sensors, which communicate with the analysis engine using a meta-protocol in which the data packet comprises a 4-tuple. A configuration discovery mechanism locates host system files and communicates the locations to the analysis engine. A file processing mechanism matches contents of a deleted file to a directory or filename, and a directory processing mechanism extracts deallocated directory entries from a directory, creating a partial ordering of the entries. A signature checking mechanism computes the signature of a file and compares it to previously computed signatures. A buffer overflow attack detector compares access times of commands and their associated files.
