Abstract: Dimensional data with attributed categorical variables is mined against a continuous target with any data mining method by ranking variables. The ranked variables are used to generate a tree. A population and a target value, obtained from a top node of the tree, are stored. The top node is removed from the tree to create a new tree with a next top node. Obtaining and storing a next population and a next target value for the next top node, and removing the top node or top field to create a new tree, are repeated. The listing of sequential top node parameters is plotted on a tree cusp curve that provides a graphical user interface enabling identification of a field which affect a greatest or a least number of records, based upon a magnitude of departure of the field from a norm.

Abstract: A system, method and computer readable medium for presence driven communication contacts of presentities in a presence server in a presence system comprises searching a relational directory for a sought individual, scanning the relational directory for at least one individual associated with the sought individual, determining a presence state of the sought individual, and discovering a presence state of the associated individual if the sought individual is unavailable.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing a technique for repairing links in a file. The file can contain one or more links, each link referring to a target file. For one or more of the links, a file identifier such as a file name, file number, or file address is stored. Alternatively, for one or more of the links, target information is stored that identifies an old target and a new target for the link. The links can be repaired based on the stored information. The stored information can be used to identify changes to the links that occurred while the file containing the link was inaccessible to the system, for example, due to the file being locked by a user.

Abstract: A partnership object is created to manage interactions between objects in an object oriented computing environment. A first object requests to interact with a second object. A partnership object is created and each of the first and second objects is provided with a reference to the partnership object. The request from the first object may include identifiers of licenses associated with the first and second object and the partnership object may be created only if both licenses are validated. The first object then is able to interact with the second object by using the reference to the partnership object.

Abstract: An archive management that allows random access. An archive managing part reads out files stored in an on-line volume at a timing determined by the respective file type, and stores these files in a specified volume among archive volumes. A retention term is designated for each set of file data, and respective retention terms are also set for the respective volumes. The file data is stored in a volume having a retention term that matches the retention term of the file data. The respective volumes are set in a device that allows random access. The areas in which data is written into the respective volumes are managed as write prohibited areas by pointers such that the respective volumes are used as a WORM device.

Abstract: Content items are revealed to a user based on whether they have been previously reviewed by the user. A number of content items are thus received over time. The content items may be discrete content items, or may be portions of a content stream, and may be received over different media. For each content item, it is determined whether the content item was previously reviewed by a user. Where the content item was not previously reviewed, the item is revealed to the user, such as by being displayed or announced to the user. Where the content item was previously reviewed, the item is hidden from the user, such as by being deleted, by being replaced with an alternative content item, and so on.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for storing and retrieving data. The embodiment may maintain all previously-written data in a portion of a storage device, such as a hard disk, writable optical media, or memory, for an indefinite period. Old data is not overwritten unless the storage capacity of the storage device is exceeded. Accordingly, prior versions of data may be accessed by the embodiment as desired.

Abstract: An apparatus includes: a storage unit storing page information located at a root, a node, and a leaf in a tree structure, and storing the plurality of page information including an expiration date of a record that is included in any page information; a search unit searching a record that has passed its expiration date; a determination unit determining whether or not the expiration date included in the page information has come; a first control unit configured to make the determination unit determine whether the expiration date included in predetermined page information stored as the tree structure has come; and a second control unit configured to make the search unit end the search of the record that has passed its expiration date, and configured to make the determination unit determine whether the expiration date included in page information located at a child of the predetermined page information has come.

Abstract: A method and mechanism for diagnosing application failures. An executable application is augmented with code which generates a list of components, as well as version information, utilized by the application. Also created is data which associates application components with applications which utilize those components. The list of components, version information, and association data are stored in a database and updated each time the application is run. In response to detecting a failure of the application, a database query is generated which returns a list of components utilized by the failed application. By comparing the date that application components changed to the date the application was last successfully run, a high priority list of components which changed since the last successful run may be generated. Diagnosis of the application failure may then begin with components in the high priority list.

Abstract: A method of, a computer program product for and a computer system for managing statistics in a database management system are provided. A value of a volatility of a statistic is determined. A value of a staleness of the statistic is determined using the value of the volatility. A statistics collection task is generated in response to, at least in part, the value of the staleness exceeding a value of a staleness threshold. The statistics collection task is executed to collect an additional value of the statistic. The additional value of the statistic is stored.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data aggregation, targeting and acquisition are described. A method may receive data and storing the data in one or more source data tables and select one of the one or more source data tables. The selected source data table includes updated data fields. The method may also identify a plurality of destination data tables that need to be updated, in which each destination data table is linked to and contains an aggregation of a subset of data from the selected source data table, identify one or more data fields in the identified destination data tables that need to be updated with data from the updated data fields in the selected source data table, and determine using the processor, for each identified destination data table, a best aggregation source data table.

Abstract: A partial revocation list and a system and method for using the partial revocation list for tracking the authenticity of replacement cartridges in a manufactured device to inhibit cloning of the cartridges is provided. A revocation pool is maintained by a manufacturer who chooses a partial revocation list from the revocation pool to store in the memory of the cartridge. The device stores its own revocation list, informs the manufacturer of cartridges which have been used and checks when a new device is installed to ensure a cloned replacement is not being used. The partial revocation list distributes enough revocation information to devices to statistically impair the cartridge yield of a cloning operation.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to resource replication systems. In aspects, a mechanism is described that detects when local resources are stale. Local resources may be stale when the time between a last successful synchronization activity and a current time exceeds a staleness value. If the local resources are determined to be stale, the local member may refrain from certain synchronization activities until the local member is allowed to resume these certain synchronization activities. If the local resources are not stale, additional synchronization activities including synchronizing resources between the member and an upstream or downstream partner may be performed.

Abstract: A distributed database system providing data and space management methodology. In a distributed system consisting a plurality of servers sharing access to data pages, a method for setting a timestamp indicating when modifications to data pages are made in a non-regressing fashion includes steps of: maintaining a local sequence at each server and an allocation page timestamp on an allocation page; upon allocation of a data page, applying a timestamp to the data page which is greater than the allocation page timestamp; upon modification of a given data page at a particular server, setting the timestamp on the given data page to the greater of the local sequence at the particular server and an existing timestamp already on the given data page; and when data pages are deallocated, adjusting the allocation page timestamp to a value greater than the timestamp value on any deallocated data page.

Abstract: A system, method and article of manufacture for managing, e.g., extracting and displaying, search condition result data, which has been modified since a previous search. Embodiments of the present invention associate search conditions and modification programs with unique identifiers (e.g., a keyword) and log every use of thereof. Thereafter, contextual relationships (e.g., where a search conditions and a modification program are linked to the same unique identifier) between the data modifications and search conditions are identified using search condition and modification program usage logs, and based on the contextual relationships, embodiments of the present invention extracts and displays the result data that has been modified since the search condition was last executed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing web pages to a client with improved speed and efficiency. Web pages are cached in a web server and are referenced from a database in a database server. When a request from a client is sent to the web server for a web page, the web server checks the web page cache table in the database server. The web page cache table contains a field wherein a flag is set to indicate whether any data that affects the web page has been updated. Database triggers are used to change the value of the flag when specified data fields corresponding to a web page have been changed. If the value of the flag indicates that there has not been any change in the data, the web server reads the html file reference in the web page cache table, retrieves the corresponding page from the web page cache in the web server and sends the page back to the client.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for dynamically updating web content using W3C standards. One such method sends a request to a web server for a web page. A web browser receives and renders a static HTML web page. The web browser periodically sends a query to the web server and, in response, receives a latest date and time stamp indicating the latest update to the web page. The web browser compares the latest date and time stamp to a previously stored date and time stamp representing a previous update. If the latest date and time stamp matches the previously stored date and time stamp, then no update has occurred and no update is required. If, however, the date and time stamps do not match, then the web page has changed since the previous update and the web browser retrieves the latest update to the web page.

Abstract: A method by which a disk-based distributed data storage system is organized for protecting historical records of stored data entities. The method comprises recording distinct states of an entity, corresponding to different moments of time, as separate entity versions coexisting within the distributed data storage system, and assigning expiration times to the entity versions independently within each of a plurality of storage sites according to a shared set of rules, before which times deletion is prohibited.

Abstract: In a network system including a server apparatus, client apparatus, and database, when a registration request of catalog data of a catalog is received from the client apparatus, the catalog data is registered in the database as one file of the catalog. When a registration request of merchandise information to be associated with the catalog data is received from the client apparatus, the merchandise information is registered as one page of the catalog data. Hence, the merchandise information of the catalog can be associated with catalog data of each page.

Abstract: A system and method for storing, filtering, selecting and manipulating business exceptions generated by forecasting and replenishment processes and systems. When an exception is generated, it will be associated with attributes corresponding to those business objects and business areas to which the exception relates. Exceptions may also be associated with administrative attributes such as status, priority and generation date, as well as information identifying the specific business process that generated the exception. Generated forecasting and replenishment exceptions may be directed to a transitory dialog message. Alternatively, forecasting and replenishment exceptions may be logged or stored in a database for future review and treatment. Within an exceptions monitor or workbench tool, a business replenishment specialist may browse, search, select, review, filter, rearrange, edit, forward and/or respond to generated exceptions.

Abstract: An information extraction method for extracting dynamic information is provided. The method includes using a plurality of information extractors extracting reference values corresponding to the dynamic information from a plurality of information sources, and determining a most reliable value corresponding to the dynamic information based on the reference values. The method further includes determining whether each of the information extractors is abnormal according to the most reliable value and removing the information extractors determined as abnormal. The method further includes rebuilding new information extractors for replacing the removed information extractors. In such a way, reliable dynamic information can be extracted and the information extractors can be maintained for normal operation.

Abstract: A system and computer implementable method for updating content on servers coupled to a network. The method includes updating an origin server with a version of files used to provide content, retrieving data that indicates an action to be performed on one or more cache servers in conjunction with updating the origin server, and performing the action to update entries in the one or more cache servers. Each entry in each cache server is associated with a subset of the content on the origin server and may include an expiration field and/or a time to live field. An example of a subset of content to which a cache entry may be associated is a Web page. Cache servers are not required to poll origin servers to determine whether new content is available. Cache servers may be pre-populated using push or pull techniques.

Abstract: A system and method for distributed database data and file access and retrieval, and managing assets of a company can include the steps of obtaining one or more data elements, storing each of the data elements, determining one or more factors related to a manner in which each of the data elements was obtained, associating a confidence index with each factor, and calculating a confidence index for each of the stored data elements, as well as a composite confidence index for the entire data store, based on the confidence index score for the individual data elements. The system and method can include calculating a confidence index for each of the stored data elements. The factors can include the date that the data elements were obtained. The factors can include from which of one or more sources the data elements were obtained.

Abstract: Systems and processes for determining and validating accessibility and currency, i.e., the actual status, of data replicated in a networked environment are disclosed. According to the disclosed process, a replicated-data policy for replicating data is defined, and access paths between network devices or between applications running on the network devices are monitored, for example, by a replicated-data monitor. Also monitored are the data replication activities in the network. The currency, i.e., timeliness, and accessibility of a replica by a network device is then compared with the requirements in the replicated-data policy and discrepancies with the replicated-data policy are identified, optionally accompanied by a notification.
