  • Patent number: 8589359
Abstract: An apparatus and method of providing accurate and consistent open spectrum results for secondary devices from different geo-location databases is presented. The results, which may be independently derived by each database, are independent of the database queried. The comparison permits some amount of latitude in spatial and temporal consistency between the databases as errors are only indicated if the temporal or spatial discrepancies are pervasive. In addition, large percentages of different locations showing discrepancies when compared also lead to corrective action being taken. Corrective actions that may be taken include forcing problematic databases to update, shunting requests by secondary devices in the problematic locations to acceptable databases or shutting down the problematic databases entirely.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting and segmenting anomalous data in an input data set such as an image is described, which makes use of a normalised distance measure referred to as a zeta distance score. A test data point from an input test data set is compared with its corresponding nearest neighbouring standard data points in standard data sets representing variation in normal or expected data values, and the average distance from the test data point to the standard data points is found. An additional average distance measure representing the average distance between the different nearest neighbouring corresponding standard data points is also found, and a normalised distance measure obtained by finding the difference between the average distance from the test data point to the standard points and the average distance between the nearest neighbouring standard data points themselves. Where the input test data set is an image then a zeta distance score map can be found.

Abstract: A system and method for organizing raw data from one or more sources uses an improved mechanism for identifying duplicate data between fields (e.g., columns) in the databases. The fields may be similar fields within a single database or similar or identical fields within a pair of databases and as organized as arrays or field vectors. The present invention sorts each of the field vectors and if necessary, partitions them by common value. A number of comparisons required to identify the duplicate data between the field vectors is reduced by feeding back a difference between the compared values. This difference is used to adjust indices into the field vectors for subsequent comparison.

  • Patent number: 8572043
Abstract: A method and system for storage of unstructured data in external data storage uses low-cost, minimally-functional external data stores (EDS) to store immutable, unstructured content. An external storage layer (ESL) interposed between an e-discovery management application (EMA), and the EDS constitutes an intermediary allowing access to external storage from the EMA and adding functionality unavailable on EDSs, offsetting the functional sacrifice incurred by using the EDS and preserving cost advantage. Caching content on the ESL during propagation to the EDS eliminates latency during file propagation. The ESL creates metadata and maintains an index of the data, allowing the data owner to search and retrieve from the EDS. The ESL compresses, decompresses, encrypts and decrypts data. An ESL vendor can service a number of clients on a fee or subscription basis. The ESL can distribute client data across EDSs and mirror data stored on a first ESL on another ESL.

Abstract: Data is often populated into Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs) from different sources. Because the data can come from a variety of sources, it may have inconsistencies—and may even be incomplete. A Normalization Engine (NE) may be able to automatically clean up the incoming data based on certain rules and knowledge. In one embodiment, the NE takes each Configuration Item (CI) or group of CIs that are to be normalized and applies a rule or a set of rules to see if the data may be cleaned up, and, if so, updates the CI or group of CIs accordingly. In particular, one embodiment may allow for the CI's data to be normalized by doing a look up against a Product Catalog and/or an Alias Catalog. In another embodiment, the NE architecture could be fully extensible, allowing for the creation of custom, rules-based plug-ins by users and/or third parties.

  • Patent number: 8521705
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for accelerated data deduplication. A data stream is received an input interface and maintained in memory. Chunk boundaries are detected and chunk fingerprints are calculated using a deduplication accelerator while a processor maintains a state machine. A deduplication dictionary is accessed using a chunk fingerprint to determine if the associated data chunk has previously been written to persistent memory. If the data chunk has previously been written, reference counts may be updated but the data chunk need not be stored again. Otherwise, datastore suitcases, filemaps, and the deduplication dictionary may be updated to reflect storage of the data chunk. Direct memory access (DMA) addresses are provided to directly transfer a chunk to an output interface as needed.

Abstract: Techniques are described for identifying conflicts between a prospective temporal key and an index of temporal keys, the index sorted based on a time value associated with each of the temporal keys. Embodiments determine whether a first temporal key within the index of temporal keys conflicts with the prospective temporal key. Here, the keys within the index may be sorted based upon a respective time value associated with each of the keys. Upon determining that the first temporal key conflicts with the prospective temporal key, the prospective temporal key is designated as conflicting with at least one existing temporal key in the index of temporal keys.

  • Patent number: 8504522
Abstract: A computer is programmed to parse a network that interconnects databases in a distributed database system, into a number of paths, wherein each path starts in a source database that is a source of changes and ends in a destination database that uses the changes to replicate the source database. The computer identifies databases that occur within each path in the network, and queries the identified databases to obtain statistics for each path. Statistics along each path are analyzed automatically, to identify a component in each path as a candidate for further investigation. The identified component may be marked as a bottleneck e.g. if there are no other paths connected to it. Alternatively the identified component may be a source of changes for another path that has a bottleneck or that has another candidate for further investigation. The identified bottleneck is displayed to the user with recommendations for improvement.
