Abstract: Proposed is a method for naturally and efficiently setting metadata in the daily process of searching for files. On a file search screen, there is provided a function of determining the candidate metadata of a metadata-nonregistered file, and initiating entry of metadata with the candidate metadata having been set. Determination of the candidate metadata is performed with any of the three following methods: a method of designating as a candidate a character string of a matched search keyword described in regular expression, a method of designating as a candidate a file path or a character string in a file that matches a keyword dictionary, and a method of designating as a candidate metadata that frequently appears in metadata-registered files.

  • Patent number: 8219569
Abstract: A method and system for the in-place evolution of XML schemas is disclosed. To automatically evolve an existing XML schema, a schema evolver receives both an existing XML schema and an XML document as input. The XML document indicates changes to be made to the existing XML schema. Based on the existing XML schema and the XML document, the schema evolver evolves the existing XML schema into a new XML schema that incorporates the changes indicated in the XML document. According to one aspect, the schema evolver generates one or more SQL statements based on the new XML schema. The SQL statements, when executed by a database server, cause the database server to evolve database structures that were based on the formerly existing XML schema so that the database structures conform to the new XML schema. This is accomplished “in place,” without copying the data in the database structures.

  • Patent number: 8219563
Abstract: Techniques are provided for searching within a collection of XML documents. A relational table in an XML index stores an entry for each node of a set of nodes in the collection. Each entry of the relational table stores an order key and a path identifier along with the atomized value of the node. An index on the atomized value provides a mechanism to perform a node-aware full-text search. Instead of storing the atomized value in the table, a virtual column may be created to represent, for each node, the atomized value of the node. Alternately, each entry of the relational table stores an order key and a path identifier along with, for simple nodes, the atomized value, and for complex nodes, a null value. For a complex node with a descendant text node, a separate entry is stored for the descendant text node in the relational table.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for receiving uploaded data from a sender at a receiver. A data deduplication technique is described that may reduce the bandwidth used in uploading data from the sender to the receiver. In the technique, the receiver, rather than the sender, maintains a fingerprint dictionary for previously uploaded data. When a sender has additional data to be uploaded, the sender extracts fingerprints for units of the data and sends the fingerprints to the receiver. The receiver checks its fingerprint dictionary to determine the data units to be uploaded and notifies the sender of the identified units, which then sends the identified units of data to the receiver. The technique may, for example, be applied in virtualized data store systems to reduce bandwidth usage in uploading data.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for composing views with automatic creation of links. Generally, views receive data through a query. Views also can have bindings to variables, for example, to represent what is selected in the view. Analyzing these queries can be used to determine whether a composition is valid, and how to compute a new query for a composed second view. In a composite view, a selection variable is utilized, and is bound to the selection parameter of the new first view. Abstract: A stopword detection component detects stopwords (also stop-phrases) in search queries input to keyword-based information retrieval systems. Potential stopwords are initially identified by comparing the terms in the search query to a list of known stopwords. Context data is then retrieved based on the search query and the identified stopwords. In one implementation, the context data includes documents retrieved from a document index. In another implementation, the context data includes categories relevant to the search query. Sets of retrieved context data are compared to one another to determine if they are substantially similar. If the sets of context data are substantially similar, this fact may be used to infer that the removal of the potential stopword(s) is not material to the search. If the sets of context data are not substantially similar, the potential stopword can be considered material to the search and should not be removed from the query.

Abstract: This application describes tools for online tracking of life-limited parts. These tools may support methods that include receiving queries, and searching databases in response to the queries. These methods may integrate results of the searches into reports that provide comprehensive histories of life-limited parts for installation within vehicles, and may report these integrated results. To build these databases, other methods may receive information relating to the life-limited parts from a variety of sources, load the information into suitable databases, and integrate this information as provided by the various sources. Other methods may also evaluate whether the parts have any permitted life remaining. These tools may also provide databases that store serial numbers associated with the parts, store physical locations of the parts at various times, indicate who owned the parts at different times, and include remaining life records that indicate any permitted life remaining for the parts.

Abstract: Methods and systems for reconstructing a full query based on a partial query are disclosed. Existing interfaces for search engines may be rigid and require users to submit full queries to perform searched. The methods and systems described herein may solve these problems by allowing a flexible way for users to submit a partial query and reconstruct a full query based on the partial query. A search may then be performed using the reconstructed query.

Abstract: The present invention provides a computer-implemented software tool that is adapted to listen continuously to data streams from a drilling operation and to process the data to generate a situation description for a current drilling situation in a form useful for automated continuous matching with a set of past cases stored in a knowledge database. The invention implements a case-based reasoning (CBR) approach to match the current drilling situation as defined by the situation description with one or more stored past cases having a degree of similarity above a predetermined threshold level. Matching cases are displayed to the drilling engineer as symbols on a case “radar”, allowing the drilling engineer to retrieve and view the details of a past case and take appropriate action based on drilling advice provided within the past case.

Abstract: A method and computer program product for performing computer forensics using file identicality are provided. A file under investigation, or a content signature for the file under investigation, is received. A content signature watch registry is updated with the content signature of the file under investigation. Any information source clients that contain the content signature for the file under investigation are identified. Any information source clients that previously contained the content signature are also identified. When any new files are received, their content signatures are compared against the updated content signature watch registry and any matches are identified. For all information source clients and content signatures identified, a control action is initiated to either generate a file investigation report or a notification for an administrator of the system.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to mapping from application objects to an abstract data model. In aspects, a mapper receives registrations that indicate behavior (e.g., how objects are constructed, modified, or examined) of application objects. The behavior may be specified using user-supplied expressions. The mapper aggregates this data and uses it to map application requests for data access into one or more operations that operate on the abstract data model. A data access layer may then translate the operations into actions to access data corresponding to the requests from a store. If appropriate, data obtained from the store may then be inserted into application objects as indicated by the registrations.

Abstract: Large-scale event processing systems are often designed to perform data mining operations by storing a large set of events in a massive database, applying complex queries to the records of the events, and generating reports and notifications. However, because such queries are performed on very large data sets, the processing of the queries often introduces a significant delay between the occurrence of the events and the reporting or notification thereof. Instead, a large-scale event processing system may be devised as a large state machine organized according to an evaluation plan, comprising a graph of event processors that, in realtime, evaluate each event in an event stream to update an internal state of the event processor, and to perform responses when response conditions are met. The continuous monitoring and evaluation of the stream of events may therefore enable the event processing system to provide realtime responses and notifications of complex queries.
