Abstract: A heuristic data entry system/method that integrates data entry search procedures and new data record entry functionality is disclosed. The system/method allows the data entry operator to enter one of more fields within a dialog menu representing a customer context. As these fields are entered a background process scans a customer database using a heuristic algorithm in an attempt to match the customer context against known customer records using a variety of matching algorithms incorporating non-tautological mapping functions. Customer records matched using these imprecise matching functions are then ranked by relevance and displayed as potential candidates for selection by the operator to complete the remaining customer context. The heuristic algorithms make no assumptions as to the accuracy the data operator entry or the customer record database, thus permitting potential matches between customer context and customer data records to occur with symmetrically non-dominant data accuracy assumptions.

Abstract: Methods and related systems are presented that relate to establishing communications among individuals connected through social networking services. To obtain the contact information of an encountered connection, a person may take a photo of the connection and provide information indicating how he/she knows the connection. Using the provided information, a subset of the person's connections in the social networking services that he/she belongs to is selected. The photos included in the profiles of the connections in the selected subset are searched and a profile that includes an image with features matching the features of the obtained image is selected. Once a match is found, personal information of the connection is obtained from his/her profile and transmitted to the person. The individuals can establish connection using the obtained personal information.

Abstract: Techniques for defocusing queries over big datasets and dynamic datasets are provided to broaden search results and incorporate all potentially relevant data and avoid overly narrowing queries. An analytic component can receive queries directed at one region of a dataset and analyze the queries to generate inferences about the queries. The queries can then be defocused by a defocusing component and incorporate a larger dataset than originally searched to broaden the queries. The larger dataset can incorporate all, or a part of the original dataset and can also be disparate from the original dataset. Clusters of queries can also be merged and unified to deal with ‘local minima’ issues and broaden the understanding of the dataset. In other embodiments, dynamic data can be monitored and changes tracked, to ensure that all portions of the dataset are being searched by the queries.

Abstract: A computer implemented system for integrating, searching, and updating media related databases comprising a first server for receiving digital content from at least one of a plurality of sources, a second server for receiving queries from at least one of a plurality of user computing devices, and a database access layer being utilized by the first and second servers to read and write to a plurality of databases. The plurality of databases comprise a content database and a media database. The content database receives at least one article of digital content from the first server via the database access layer and stores the at least one article. The media database contains at least one journalist data and media outlet data. A mapping module matches journalist data and media outlet data to at least one journalist data and media outlet data contained in the media database.

  • Patent number: 8352494
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for distributed nearest-neighbor search for image retrieval are disclosed. An example distributed image retrieval system includes a root server and a plurality of leaf servers. The root server controls the clustering of images in the image corpus, and determines the assignment of image clusters to a collection of leaf servers. Each leaf server is independently configured to perform a two-stage nearest-neighbor search in a locality-sensitive hash space for a received query image within the leaf server's assigned images clusters. Thus, the distributed image retrieval system is modular and amendable to tuning, modifications, duplication, and replacement on a per-server basis. In addition, the design of the image retrieval system allows flexible load balancing among the leaf servers.

  • Patent number: 8346800
Abstract: Content-based information retrieval is described. In an example, a query item such as an image, document, email or other item is presented and items with similar content are retrieved from a database of items. In an example, each time a query is presented, a classifier is formed based on that query and using a training set of items. For example, the classifier is formed in real-time and is formed in such a way that a limit on the proportion of the items in the database that will be retrieved is set. In an embodiment, the query item is analyzed to identify tokens in that item and subsets of those tokens are selected to form the classifier. For example, the subsets of tokens are combined using Boolean operators in a manner which is efficient for searching on particular types of database.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a method for video retrieval by providing a first audio video file, determining a first identifier of a first piece of music in the first audio video file, looking up for the first identifier first meta data in a music database, in which said first meta data are associated with said first identifier, providing second meta data of a second piece of music from the music database. The second piece of music is included in a second audio video file. Further the method is conducted by determining a similarity measure by comparing the first and second meta data, and providing the second audio video file or an identifier thereof depending on the similarity measure. Further embodiments relate to a server, a user device and a system and a computer program product for video retrieval.

Abstract: A data management system includes a record database, an account database, a scenario database, and a computing device. The computing device includes a data management tool that is configured to identify scenarios based on information stored in the record database and store the identified scenarios in the scenario database. Further, the data management tool may associate identified scenarios with customer records stored in the account database. Upon receipt of a scenario selected by a user, the data management tool may automatically generate a query that identifies at least one customer record associated with the selected scenario, execute the query, and create a sample billing record for each customer record identified.

Abstract: An arbitrary number of custom catalogs for an arbitrary number of customers can be published from a single database of seller catalog data. Custom browse hierarchies can be generated for each of the custom catalogs. The custom catalogs are subsets of the catalog database, and are generated in accordance with a set of rules that defines the scope of the content of the custom catalog. The rule sets define a series of sequential searches by which a subset of the product SKUs contained in the database are returned. A primary hierarchy is maintained that can have a scope coextensive with the primary database. Custom browse hierarchies can be pruned to render their scope approximately coextensive with each subset. The custom catalog subsets and the custom browse hierarchies are generated periodically through a virtual publication process.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for automatically generating an artist coordinated image display based upon a user's favorite image or images. A plurality of digital image templates are stored in a computer accessible memory each having programmed characteristics associated therewith that are designed by an artist with one window being a primary window. The characteristics of the template can be programmed and stored, including number, location, shape, color, etc, of windows in the digital template. Color and texture characteristics of a body of the template can be selected to resemble, for example, a frame, which will eventually hold the printed images of the template for display. The windows of the template have stored image attribute requirements associated therewith that are designed by the artist are correlated to match image attributes of at least one user selected image.

  • Patent number: 8296291
Abstract: Identification and Surfacing of related pieces of content, such as user-provided content, enables users of a merchant website to more easily find related items. A server associated with the website may receive, from a user, an image that illustrates items offered for sale on the site. The site may then enable this and other users to annotate the image by, for example, associating the illustrated items with hyperlinks to respective item detail pages. When a user views this page, the site may surface the most related other user-uploaded images that also illustrate items. To determine the most related images, the website may analyze, for each of the other images, the similarity between the items illustrated in the image and the items illustrated in the currently-displayed image. The website may also analyze the tags applied to the items and the images themselves, as well as multiple other types of criteria.

Abstract: Case images are registered so as not to cause bias (or partiality or imbalance) in amounts of feature of the case images included in a database of a similar image search system for image diagnosis. Since registration of the case images to the database is controlled according to degrees of similarity of the amounts of feature, it is possible to prevent a lot of similar case images from being included in the search result. Thus, it is possible to reduce possibility of representing a similar search result which may interfere with an accurate diagnosis by a diagnostician.
