Abstract: Disclosed are methods, apparatus, systems, and computer readable storage media for providing access in an on-demand database service to a content object stored in an external content management data source. Information data identifying a content object stored in an external content management data source can be received and communicated through one or more middleware components. The one or more middleware components can serve as a content hub to establish access with the content object and retrieve data regarding the content object. The data regarding the content object can be stored in a persistent object, which can represent the content object in a social layer of the on-demand database service.

Abstract: One illustrative embodiment involves receiving a content request for accessing a piece of content, the content request identifying the piece of content, the content request received by a first computer device, and the content request requesting access to the piece of content by a content requester. The embodiment further involves receiving information about the content requester and sending from the first computer device a requester-specific information request requesting additional information from the content requester based at least in part on information about the content requester. The embodiment further involves receiving the additional information at the first computer device and selectively, at the first computer device, providing access to the piece of content based at least in part on the additional information.

Abstract: A method of providing concurrent access to a hierarchy in a data structure may include receiving a request from a first process to change a first value associated with an object, where the request may include a second value to be combined with the first value. The method may also include determining that a second process is currently accessing information associated with the object. The method may additionally include associating, in response to determining that the second process is currently accessing information associated with the object, the second value with the object without combining the first value and the second value.

Abstract: One exemplary embodiment involves displaying, by a device comprising a processor, indications of which events or properties of a component are exposed for analytics, wherein the component comprises a template for instances of the component for use in electronic content. The exemplary embodiment further involves determining, by the device, a mapping based on selection of events or properties of the component to map to corresponding data elements to be tracked by an analytics service. The exemplary embodiment further involves providing, by the device, electronic content comprising at least one instance of the component, the electronic content configured to send information about the data elements to the analytics service based on the mapping during use of the electronic content.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, apparatus, methods, and computer readable media for creating and sharing social files in a feed system. In one embodiment, a request is received to perform an action related to a social file. The social file may provide access to a first document file within a social networking system. The first document file may be capable of being displayed on a display device. A determination may be made as to whether the requested action complies with a permission configuration record associated with the social file. The permission configuration record may identify one or more user accounts permitted to access the social file.

Abstract: A system and method for updating a filtering system which controls access to a website/page between a local area network (LAN) and an Internet. The LAN includes an Internet gateway system coupled to a workstation and configured to receive a URL request. The system controls access to the website/page associated with the URL based on one or more categories that are associated with the URL. The Internet gateway system can determine the category that is associated with the URL by referencing a master database or requesting the category from a database factory. The database factory can receive URLs from multiple Internet gateway systems. The database factory determines whether the identifier was previously categorized by the database factory and provides the category to the Internet gateway system. Once the Internet gateway system has the category, it applies rules associated with the category and user to filter access to the requested website/page.

Abstract: A method of managing a central data repository including updating the central data repository from a disconnected nomadic device by receiving a request from a first nomadic device for access at the central data repository, authorizing the first nomadic device and sending a check out template to the first nomadic device. The server receives a checkout selection from the first nomadic device, authenticates the first nomadic device, and presents a list of authorized items to the first nomadic device; receives a request for selected items from the list and check out the selected items to the first nomadic device. This prohibits other nomadic devices from checking out the selected items checked out to the first selected nomadic device. The first nomadic device is disconnected and the checked out selected items are updated.

Abstract: The capability to design and implement roles in a role-based system is disclosed. The system and data architecture enable organizations to model and assign relationships between Roles and other entities in a computing environment. The complex interrelation of Groups and Roles is established in an environment where: users need not be a member of a Group to use the capabilities of a Role; Role ownership is distinct from Role usage; and Roles themselves have attributes. A collection of methods enable creation, configuration, maintenance, ownership and usage of roles and for implementing relationships between the Role and other system entities, attributes and permissions.

Abstract: An electronic document classification system disclosed herein classifies electronic documents. The classification of the documents may involve analyzing the document and the information attached to the document to generate a set of classification data and comparing the classification data with one or more classification rules to generate a set of classifying data. The system attaches the set of classifying data to the electronic document and displays the electronic document based on the set of classifying data. The classification data may also be used to prioritize the electronic documents and to assign a retention period to the electronic documents. The system is further adapted to receive user feedback regarding the classification of the electronic document and to update the classification rules.

Abstract: A distributed license management system and method for managing software licenses are provided. The disturbed license management system comprises a repository for storing workstation information, a message interceptor for intercepting a message call coming from a workstation to a server, a workstation identification module for determining if a workstation identifier associated with the message call is defined in the repository, and a device verification module for allowing access to the server if a device identifier of a workstation is associated with the workstation identifier. The method comprises the steps of storing workstation information, intercepting a message call coming from a workstation to a server, determining if a workstation identifier associated with the message call is defined in stored workstation information, and allowing access to the server if a device identifier of the workstation is associated with the workstation identifier.

Abstract: Systems and methods for obtaining access to a database file managed by an operating system in a computing system are disclosed. One method includes transmitting a call to an operating system from a database management system, the call requesting access to a database file. The method also includes receiving an address from the operating system at the database management system. The address represents a general address of the database file managed by the operating system. The method further includes transmitting a call to the operating system from the database management system, which includes an address and a size of a view of the database file to be created. The method also includes receiving an address of the view of the database file from the operating system.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product to create an access control bit mapping (ACBM) structure for a corresponding database table are disclosed. The ACBM structure may include a relative record number (RRN) bit map. The RRN bit map may describe the access rights for a parameter. The computer-implemented method may maintain one or more statistics describing the RRN bit map. The method may additionally provide for updating the ACBM structure. The method may also provide for using the ACBM structure to process a database query.

Abstract: The invention is directed towards a method of partitioning data in a database. The database is configured to be accessed by an entity. The method comprises the steps of defining a first partition within the database, defining a second partition within the database and assigning selected data in the database to the first partition and the second partition, wherein data assigned to both the first partition and the second partition may only be accessed by an entity assigned to both said first partition and said second partition.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for interleaving search results. A method includes presenting multiple first search results received from a first search engine. The first search results satisfy a search query directed to the first search engine and are presented in an order. A second search result from a second search engine is inserted at a position between two otherwise adjacent first search results. The second search result is received from a second search engine in response to the search query.

Abstract: A system for accessing analytical data for external use may include a database storing a first data set and a second data set. The first data set and the second data set may include analytical data. A first access layer may provide access to a first data set from the database and a second access layer may provide access to a second data set from the database. A first application programming interface may provide functions to access the first access layer and a second application programming interface may provide functions to access the second access layer. The first application programming interface may be configured to receive a request via the first access layer to access the first data set from the database and the second application programming interface may be configured to receive a request via the second access layer.

Abstract: Managing access control lists (ACLs) across replicated data repositories can include selecting, from a first data processing system, a controlled object and an ACL object bound to the controlled object, wherein the first data processing system is associated with a first user identity space, and creating, using a processor, a replicated version of the controlled object within a second data processing system associated with a second user identity space, wherein the second user identity space is different from the first user identity space. Managing ACLs further includes, creating, using the processor, a replicated version of the ACL object within the second data processing system and substituting, within the replicated version of the ACL object, an identity from the first user identity space with a selected identity from the second user identity space.

Abstract: A lease system is described herein that allows clients to request a lease to a remote file, wherein the lease permits access to the file across multiple applications using multiple handles without extra round trips to a server. When multiple applications on the same client (or multiple components of the same application) request access to the same file, the client specifies the same lease identifier to the server for each open request or may handle the request from the cache based on the existing lease. Because the server identifies the client's cache at the client level rather than the individual file request level, the client receives fewer break notifications and is able to cache remote files in more circumstances. Thus, by providing the ability to cache data in more circumstances common with modern applications, the lease system reduces bandwidth, improves server scalability, and provides faster access to data.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to techniques for automatically deriving web service permissions based on XML structure permissions. A call for a web service operation is received from a client at a web service runtime engine. XML data objects from a database of XML data objects located on an XML server implicated by the called web service operation are identified. The XML data objects have corresponding XML data structures. Access permissions for the user for the identified XML data objects are retrieved from the XML server, the access permissions for the web service having been generated automatically from access permissions based on the XML data structures for corresponding XML data objects. The called web service operation is either permitted or prohibited based on a determination, at the web service runtime engine and based on the retrieved access permissions. Thus, data access requests are handled in the “higher” web service layer.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a system and method for a client connected to a server to a resource in a network. For the system a virtual machine module is provided to access a library and to create virtual machine templates and to create virtual machines from the virtual machine templates. The virtual machine module provides to a host machine in the network access to machines, user profile settings and instances of an application in the network and to multiple operating systems. The client has: access to an instance of the resource; an access module to provide the client with communication to access to the server using load balancing algorithms to access the file using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) commands; and an authentication module providing access to a directory structure accessed by the server using Microsoft Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Active Directory (AD) services to authenticate the client with the server.

Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for improving the reliability of access to a database system in a controller, such as a PLC. A PLC accessible to a database accesses a DB server in response to an event in which a user program calls a DB access processing program. The DB access processing program stores status information indicating a status of accesses to the DB server in a nonvolatile memory, in accordance with an instruction of the user program. When a power interruption occurs, the PLC can obtain a status of accesses to the DB server at the timing of the occurrence of the power interruption by referring to the status information. Then, the PLC, for example, re-sends a SQL sentence, depending on the access status.

Abstract: Described are techniques for controlling access to objects. A template is selected. The template includes information specifying a role, one or more levels of expertise, and which objects and object information are accessible to said one or more levels of expertise. A first of the levels of expertise is selected. The template and the first level of expertise are associated with a user identifier. Access to objects and object information is restricted in accordance with the template when performing processing for the user identifier.

Abstract: An online service provider (OSP) operates online data centers to store members' data objects relating to various online member services of the OSP. An aggregated catalog lists members' data objects residing in the online data centers and also those residing in member computers' local storage. An aggregator monitors contents of the online storage facilities to detect new storage of prescribed types of data objects owned by the members, and also communicates with member computers to identify prescribed types of data objects newly stored in the respective local storage. The aggregator updates the aggregated catalog to list the newly stored data objects. Responsive to a request by a member, a finder searches the aggregated catalog and utilizes results of the search to provide, for display at the requesting member's computer, a consolidated listing of online data objects and locally stored data objects owned by the requesting member.

Abstract: A system and method for data storage and removal includes providing databases and providing encryption keys. Each database is associated with a database time period and each encryption key is associated with an encryption time period. Data items are received and each data item is encrypted using the encryption key associated with the encryption time period that corresponds to a time associated with the data item. Each encrypted data item is stored in the database associated with the database time period that corresponds to the time associated with the data item. Each encryption key is deactivated at a predetermined time after the associated encryption time period ends. Each database is made irretrievable upon a determination that all of the encryption keys associated with the data items stored in that database have been deactivated.

Abstract: A method for allowing an information seeker to utilize affiliate group searching involving human searchers who are members of particular information affiliate groups. Each affiliate group has an area of expertise in which they are particularly skilled. In at least one embodiment, the method includes accepting designation of an affiliate group for providing information searching and presenting search results produced by a member of the affiliate group to an information seeker.

A further exemplary system includes a GPS-enabled device configured to receive a GPS identifier and a status representing a location and a current state for a web-based social network member, a processing module that associates the received GPS-identifier and the received status, and a communications module that sends the associated GPS-identifier and status to a server comprising a web-based social network database. Contact content in a web-based social network database record in the web-based social network database is updated to include the associated GPS identifier and status for the web-based social network member.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for managing an integrated catalog facility (ICF) catalog. An ICF catalog is monitored by a contention detection module. Information related to a detected catalog resource contention is used by the contention detection module to generate a contention event. Information related to the contention event is then provided to a contention resolution module, which uses the information to perform a contention resolution operation. Once the resolution operation has been performed, contention events and contention resolution operations are reported by a contention reporting module.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide rapid access to information stored on a personal computing device even though the personal computing device is powered off or otherwise in a low-power consumption state such as a sleep state or hibernation state. An software component gathers user data in a location such as a non-volatile memory associated with a host computer. A browser component accesses the stored data and makes it available to the user when the host computer is powered down or otherwise in a state of low power consumption.

Initially, a system administrator sets a ratio of N:M for executing N read requests for M write requests. As resource acquisition requests are received by a filesystem server, the resource acquisition requests are sorted into queues, e.g., where read and write requests have at least one queue for each type, plus a separate queue for metadata requests as they are executed ahead of any waiting read or write request. The filesystem server controls execution of the filesystem resource acquisition requests to maintain the ratio set by the system administrator.

If an entity requests access using an identifier from another namespace, an external database is consulted to determine if a mapping exists for the identifier to another identifier the canonical namespace. If no mapping exists, or the external database is unavailable, then an identifier is automatically generated in the canonical namespace and is used for the access. An internal database is updated with the automatically generated identifier, providing a mechanism to add mappings without administrative intervention. To access resources requiring an identifier from another particular namespace, a canonical namespace identifier may be mapped to another identifier in the particular namespace, or a generic identifier may be used.

Abstract: A dynamic profiling system (DPS) provides dynamic access session configuration for telecommunications subscribers, and provides subscriber session information to application platforms. The DPS configuration adapts to meet the needs of any combination of user connection requests, access channel devices, and access channels used to communicate connection requests. The DPS provides an aggregated view of user session information to efficiently and effectively provide services to subscribers. As the many different access channels (e.g., WiFi™ channels, Ethernet™ channels, and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) channels continue to grow through which a subscriber connects to services, the dynamic profiling system also eliminates the inefficient proliferation of custom interfaces between the many support systems and applications that need access to subscriber profile and session configuration information. The DPS provides a universal and personalized access to telecommunications services.

Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for automating a search over a network such as the Internet. A user selects data such as text from within an application. The selected data is activated and a search is performed without the user having to leave the application. The search is performed while the user is continuing within the application. When the search is complete, the search results are made available to the user within the application from which the search was initiated. In one embodiment, the data is pre-searched and the results are cached such that the results are already available should the user desire. The present invention is particularly suited to integration with an operating system such that the methods of the present invention are thereby available to all applications. Alternatively, the present invention can be specific to a particular application.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a method is provided for accessing a file node. In this method, a file access request specifying a file node to be accessed by way of a file system is received at a server from a client device. A counter is referenced to identify that the file node is being accessed in response to a different file access request. The counter is configured to track whether the file node is being accessed. The file node is provided to the client device when the counter indicates a termination of access to the file node resulting from the different file access request.

Abstract: A system determines query similarity. The system determines a volume per unit time of an issued first query over a time period and determines a volume per unit time of issued other queries over the time period. The system compares the volume per unit time of each of the issued other queries to the volume per unit time of the issued first query. The system identifies ones of the issued other queries as similar to the first query based on the comparison.

Abstract: Techniques for common users and roles, and commonly-granted privileges and roles are described. In one approach, the DBMS of a container database allows for the creation of common roles and common users that are shared across the container database. Thus, when a common role or a common user is established, the common role or common user is propagated to each database of the container database. In another approach, the DBMS of a container database allows privileges and roles to be granted commonly or locally. When a privilege or role is granted commonly, the privilege applies in each of the databases of a container database. When a privilege or role is granted locally, the privilege applies only in the database to which the grantor of the privilege or role established a connection.
