Abstract: A computer-implemented system provides a browse tree in which items represented within a database are arranged within a hierarchy of item categories. Each time a user selects an item, an amount of credit is cumulatively assigned to the ancestor nodes (categories) of the selected item. The amount of credit assigned to a particular category of the browse tree over time for a given user represents the user's predicted affinity for that category. The user's relative preferences for some or all of the categories are predicted by calculating differences between the user's predicted affinities for such categories and the predicted affinities of a population of users for such categories. Scores reflective of these relative category preferences are used to provide personalized recommendations or other personalized content to the user.

Abstract: An information processing device includes a lock section, a creation section, a transmission section, a reception section, and a release section. The lock section disables an authorization function of the information processing device under a given condition. The creation section creates a first lock release file that is capable of releasing the authorization function disabled by the lock section. The transmission section transmits the first lock release file to an information management device. The reception section receives a second lock release file, which is based on the first lock release file, from the information management device. The release section tries to enable the authorization function of the information processing device when the second lock release file is determined to be valid.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products include capturing a job seeker's résumé, capturing a list of career websites on which the job seeker desires to post his or her résumé and for each career website specified, logging onto that career website and posting the job seeker's résumé to that career website. If the job seeker doesn't have an account on a specific career website, one is created for him/her.

Abstract: A system and method for protecting queryable data. Specifically, the method is implemented in a system for targeted data delivery. The method includes collecting user information about a user and generating a user profile based on the user information. The user profile is divided into at least one part. Each part of the user profile is concealed such that each part of the user profile is only accessible using a corresponding tool controlled by a third party.

Abstract: Obtaining content by an enterprise knowledge management system includes monitoring at least one of an enterprise repository data store, an intranet, a local repository data store, the Internet and subscription-based sources to obtain data relevant to an enterprise profile. The data is categorized, tagged and indexed for storage in the enterprise repository data store. Content selected based on a user profile, and obtained from the enterprise repository data store, is pushed to a user terminal.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a creation unit and a registration unit. The creation unit acquires first limited use information which is associated with a designated object and stored in an object storage unit from the object storage unit in accordance with an instruction to specify the designated object, and creates second limited use information containing information indicated by the acquired first limited use information and described in a different form from the acquired first limited use information. One embodiment is an online dating computer system comprising a server, an online dating matching component, and a dater support component. The online dating matching component and the dater support component are embodied in the memory and executed by the processor. Abstract: Systems and methods to provide server side profile information. An LDAP server is provisioned for each user of a plurality of users. Profile information is received. The profile information is stored in a database associated with the LDAP server. Via the LDAP server, a suggestion from the profile information is provided in response to a partial entry provided by the user to a first client associated with the user.

Abstract: An identity of a person proximate to a display device is determined by an identity profile controller. The identity profile controller determines whether a configured viewing profile exists for the person. Upon determining that the configured viewing profile exists for the person, the identity profile controller instructs a bezel display controller to display a profile identifier associated with the configured viewing profile via a two-dimensional light-emitting diode (LED) array located within a bezel of the display device outside of the display area of the display. The identity profile controller automatically adjusts display device settings for the display device based upon the configured viewing profile. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Management responsibilities are applied based on business rules and based on a hierarchical model. The hierarchical model enables a well-defined logical flow of delegations and restrictions with pruning capability. User groups, asset groups, asset trees and asset permissions may be defined. The designated user can manage a single asset or all assets or a subset of assets. An asset may belong to one or more asset groups.

Abstract: A query result set is an example of a type of body of data whose content is defined by a query. Modifications to a database can change the result of a query and therefore what the content of such a body of data, such as a result set, should be. Active Queries is an approach that enables a database server to detect database changes that alter the result of a query registered for a client and to notify a client of those changes. The notifications may be sent to, for example, a cache manager responsible for maintaining coherency of a result set cache generated by the query. The notification notifies the cache manager of when and/or what changes are needed to maintain the coherency of the cache.

Abstract: The present invention is defined by the following claims, and nothing in this section should be taken as a limitation on those claims. By way of introduction, the preferred embodiments describe below include a method of simultaneously presenting user specific real-time financial information includes authenticating a user, for example by using a user-id and password. Then receiving an input from the user indicating the shareholder of interest. The user is then presented with a list of the shareholder's account information. The shareholder account information can be retrieved from several different record keeping systems. The record keeping systems can be maintained by different entities and can store the respective account information in different formats. The shareholder account information can be retrieved by broadcasting an account inquiry to the record keeping systems or by using a cross-reference table that indicates which record keeping systems the shareholder has accounts with.

Abstract: Granting permissions for attributes in a distributed data store involves implementing a federated control system. The system can include dynamic permissions granted to content blobs. Acknowledgment of dynamic permissions facilitates identification of users that receive content to enable restoring data on a machine following data loss. Acceptance of dynamic permissions can further facilitate automatic updates to data, or providing content blobs in response to changes in user attributes.

Abstract: A software engine runs in a compatible mode with off-the-shelf word processors, e-mail programs and presentation development software and other document development software. The software engine is used for the security classification of sensitive or national security classified information in electronic and resultant hard copy document formats. The software engine ensures that the individual considers all informational portions of a document, that appropriate document marks are employed, that document marks in their electronic format are persistent and that all necessary information, such as classification guides, standards and security regulations, provided by the organization to classify information is at hand and immediately available. In addition to the document sensitivity or classification determination and marking support, the software engine tracks and controls documents and the electronic media storing documents.

Abstract: User profile data that may be spread across different service providers and that may vary across different service providers can be aggregated to provide an aggregate user profile. An aggregate user profile can be generated regardless of, among other things, varying user profile semantics, differing data formats, data item conflicts, evolving server protocols and interfaces, and updates to the number, identity, location, and type of servers upon which the service providers are maintained.

Abstract: A document management system includes a memory and a controller. The memory stores access privilege information configured to define, for each display style of a document element displayed in an electronic document, privileges of users or user groups regarding access to a document element having a display style. In response to a request from a user to perform an operation on a document element in an electronic document, the controller controls whether the operation is executed or not on the document element, using the access privilege information stored in the memory, in accordance with a privilege among privileges of the users or user groups for a display style of the document element, the privilege being a privilege of the user or a user group to which the user belongs.

Abstract: Methods for providing a generic database security application using virtual private database (VPD) functionality are provided. The methods may include inserting rows into a user security table in a database providing VPD functionality, each row comprising a user ID for which database access is to be controlled, the name of a database object to be secured, and a predicate; and defining a security policy function common to all secured database objects, said security policy function generating a second predicate to be appended by the database's VPD functionality to queries made on a queried secured database object by a querying user, said second predicate based on at least one predicate in at least one row in the user security table, the at least one row referencing the name of the queried secured database object and the user ID of the querying user. Abstract: An on-line article comprising instances of newsmakers is provided by an Internet connected news server or news aggregator server and the names of the newsmakers are automatically identified by a newsmaker verification and commenting module. The article is displayed to a reader on an Internet connected client computer. The instances of the newsmakers in the article are emphasized such that they stand out in the article. The reader initiates a verification process by indicating that he is a newsmaker. The newsmaker verification and commenting module is in communication with a verification database and the identity of the reader is verified as the newsmaker through a series of questions and answers. After verification, comments provided by the reader are stored by the newsmaker verification and commenting module. The comments and article are published such that the comments are displayed conspicuously with the article on any client computer accessing the article.

Abstract: A method is provided for securely enabling dynamic instrumentation. The method includes categorizing probes, upon creation, into one or more classes, providing lists of permissions for activating the probes and associating users with the permissions for activating the probes, such that certain users have permissions for activating certain probes. Users are associated with permissions by mapping classes of probes to permissions and mapping users to permissions, mapping classes of users to probes, or mapping users to at least one of classes of probes and classes of capabilities.

Abstract: A system and associated method for collaboratively developing information. An information delivery system for information regarding rapidly evolving software products builds an initial information set and a vocabulary. The initial information set is released for annotations on the information set by contributing users. The vocabulary defines a group of terms and respectively associated confidence level that can be used in describing annotations. An access control list may be employed in authenticating contributing users in accessing the information delivery system to assure reliability of annotations. A reliable annotation having a confidence level satisfying a threshold confidence level is integrated with the information set according to an approval by a content owner.

Abstract: A method and system for improving targeted data delivery. One method accesses a user profile based on information about a user from at least one electronic device from a set of electronic devices that is associated with the user. A targeted data offer is received, wherein the targeted data offer defines selection criteria for targeted user profiles. A determination is made as to whether the user profile satisfies the selection criteria. A non-user selected relevancy criteria based on the user profile is then utilized to characterize the targeted data offer.

Abstract: Embodiments of a secure method to access a de-identified database on a website are described. A care alliance is formed between a patient and a care provider. A dual-portal web-based system is implemented that provides healthcare related information to healthcare users through a first website, and registry/management tools to care providers through a second website. No identifiable fields relating to the user are stored or accessible in the database of the first website. All user information is de-identified by total exclusion from the database. A re-identification process allows an authorized care provider view his or her clients in combination with registered personal information from the system. An alliance-based identification key is used to index both the individually identifiable information and the personal health data/information that are stored in separate databases.

Abstract: Systems and articles of manufacture for managing annotations made for a variety of different type data objects manipulated (e.g., created, edited, and viewed) by a variety of different type applications are provided. Some embodiments allow users collaborating on a project to create, view, and edit annotations from within the applications used to manipulate the annotated data objects, which may facilitate and encourage the capturing and sharing of tacit knowledge through annotations. Abstract: A document management system enables multiple users to collaboratively contribute to the contents of a document via any suitable medium for transporting and storing documents, including email, shared drives, replicated work spaces and centralized storage systems. A tracking strategy is employed, in lieu of a central repository, that is based upon medium-independent versioning. Each version of a document that is created and saved by a user is given a unique identifier. The versions are submitted to a global service for ratification as the next authoritative version of a document. A submitted version that forms the next step in a linear sequence is ratified as the authoritative version of the document, whereas the version which does not meet this criterion becomes identified as a new document. Support is provided for users who create versions off-line, as well as users who are not subscribers to the system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the automatic inclusion of entities into one or more management resource groups are described herein. Some embodiments include processing logic and memory coupled to the processing logic and including a database. The processing logic stores within the database a grouping representative of at least one network element, a role defined for a user, and a grouping-role pair associated with the user. The processing logic further automatically adds a new element as a grouping member upon its identification and automatically authorizes the user to perform the role with the new network element.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods that provide a portal user with role-based access to components on a network via portlets within the portal. The role-based access can be sharable such that one or more users with a similar role can instantiate instances of a shared portal. Sharable configurations can be stored local to the user's portal, local to another portal and/or within a networked storage medium. The access provides a user with an entry-point to components, wherein a user can monitor and control components. The user can additionally configure the portal such that the component access is further based on the user's location. Advantages of the present invention include delineation of access and administrative functionality, the ability to combine web and application servers within a similar environment, and the ability to access (e.g., controlling, collecting and analyzing data, etc.) when the user is not utilizing the portal.

Abstract: Centralized charging systems and methods are disclosed for providing offline charging and online charging for a plurality of network elements. The centralized charging system is implemented in a communication network between the network elements and offline/online charging systems. A network element interface of the centralized charging system receives charging request messages from CTFs in the network elements. An accounting data forwarding function processes charging data in the charging request messages to determine if offline or online charging is invoked for the services. For offline charging, the accounting data forwarding function generates offline accounting request messages that include the charging data. For online charging, the accounting data forwarding function generates online accounting request messages that include the charging data.

Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems for managing database access privileges using administration groups are described. Administrative functions for managing a database server and administrative functions for managing collections of databases can be separated. Groups of databases can be created on the database server. Tasks for adding and managing multiple databases can be delegated from a server administrator to one or more group administrators who can manage one or more groups of databases. The groups of databases can be stored in various home folders, each home folder corresponding to a group. Management rights on the databases can be determined by the home folders in which the databases are located.

Abstract: A system to create tags for tag cloud displays includes an authentication service to authenticate a user. The system includes a set of valid resources stored in a database system. A tag creation tool permits the authenticated user to create at least one tag that serves to identify a selected resource within the set of valid resources. Each tag includes a weighted value. Each tag may include a public attribute that indicates that the tag is accessible to authenticated users and non-authenticated users. Alternatively, each tag may include a private attribute that indicates that the tag is only accessible to the authenticated user. A user interface displays tags in a tag cloud in accordance with attributes of the tags and weighted values of the tags.

Abstract: Access to selected content in different file formats can be managed by conducting, in a single purchase transaction, a user purchase of access rights that allow a user to acquire multiple copies of the same selected content in media files having different file formats. An authorization signal is communicated to a content provider or multiple content providers who did not conduct the purchase transaction. The authorization signal contains information that allows the content provider or the multiple content providers to authorize the user to acquire multiple copies of the same selected content in different file formats without requiring the user to conduct multiple transactions. Each copy of the selected content acquired from a content provider is in a media file having a different file format.

Abstract: An embodiment relates to a novel apparatus and method for changing modes of notification in an electronic device. An electronic device includes a calendar application and a variety of other applications such as the message reader application or the daily alarm application. The device is configured to use the calendar application to track whether and how the user is notified of the receipt of an electronic. In one embodiment, the user specifically associates a profile behavior to the calendar entry when the calendar entry is first created.

Abstract: A method for a computer system includes receiving an identifier from a user, initiating a user session in response to the identifier, determining a social map for the user in response to the identifier and in response to a plurality of social network relationships, receiving a first change to the plurality of social network relationships from the user, receiving a second change to the plurality of network relationships from another user, determining a revised social map for the user during the user session in response to receiving the first change, but not in response to receiving the second change, wherein the revised social map for the user reflects the first change and the second change, and storing the revised social map for the user during the user session in a cache.

Abstract: A system and method of presenting data from a plurality of data sources or objects which simultaneously distributes many sources of such data to many customers. Customer profiles are developed for the recipient describing how important certain characteristics of the data are to each customer. From these profiles, an “agreement matrix” is calculated by comparing the recipient's profiles to the actual profiles of the characteristics of the available data. The agreement matrix thus characterizes the attractiveness of each data to each prospective customer, and is used to produce a series of data which will provide the greatest satisfaction to each customer. The customer's profiles and/or the profiles of the data may be modified to reflect actual usage.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for notifying a member of a social network system of those changes, within the social network system, that are of most interest to the member. In one embodiment, change records are generated for changes in the social network system. The change records are stored in an activities log. To notify a particular user of changes that would be of interest to the user, a subset of the change records contained in the activities log is selected based on user-specific selection criteria. Once the subset of change records has been selected, a set of notification records is generated based on the subset of change records. To reduce the possibility of information overload, the subset of change records is consolidated by removing duplicates and merging related notifications. The consolidated list of user-specific notifications may then be sent to the user. A variety of mechanisms may be used to send the notifications to the user, including streaming the notifications to a user (e.g.

Abstract: A computer implemented method is described. Data is collected about a number of member entities that have online interaction with a group entity. A predefined state is assigned to a selected one of the member entities automatically, in response to applying a predefined rule to analyze some of the collected data. The rule is defined in part by the group entity. The method automatically determines whether or not online content is to be delivered to the selected member entity, based on the assigned state. In another embodiment, online content that is to be delivered to the selected member entity is automatically personalized for the selected member entity, again based on the assigned state. Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and a computer program product are provided for deriving optimal physical space and ambiance conditions for a user. A physical space analyzer comprising an information sensor and an optimal space analyzer detects a broadcast of characteristics of a set of nearby physical spaces. In turn, the physical space analyzer produces a ranking of the set of nearby physical spaces using the characteristics based on preferences of the user as expressed by the user's profile. An ambiance optimizer is provided to refine the ranking of the set of nearby physical spaces based on dynamically input preferences of the user.

Upon receiving a query from a user regarding the data, a query plan is determined for responding to the query by selecting one or more of the data sources responsively to the ontology and by identifying an operation to be applied to the data responsively to the applicable logical rules. Abstract: A method of and system for submitting inquiries to members of an organization determine if there is a pending inquiry to be submitted to the member. If there is a pending inquiry to be submitted to the member, the system displays the pending inquiry to the member. The system permits the member to logon to said server if the member responds to said inquiry. The system may allow the member to defer responding to the inquiry and permit the member to logon to the server without responding to the inquiry. If deferral of response to the inquiry is not allowed, the system will deny the member access to the server if the member fails to respond to said inquiry.

Abstract: A method and a system to generate a user profile and an associated profile manager are described. The user profile, in one embodiment, may comprise identity data such as static information about a user and behavior data comprising dynamic information about the user. The profile manager may be configured to monitor the activities of the user through an interface to collect behavior indicators, and to update the behavior data using the collected behavior indicators. In one embodiment, the user profile also comprises reputation data. The method and system may also be configured to receive an access request from a user and selectively grant the access based on the user profile.

Abstract: A document management system includes a document processing apparatus which performs processing, such as editing of a document; and a document management server which manages division and combining of the document thus created. The document processing apparatus transmits an XML document thus created to the document management server, and requests to store the document. Upon reception of a request from the document processing apparatus to acquire the XML document stored in the document management server, the document management server certifies the user of the requesting document processing apparatus. Abstract: Methods and systems provide automatic search generation capabilities. A search constraint and a control field identifier are received. A search generating module generates a search that when executed returns records from a data store. The records satisfy the search constraint and have identical values for the control field identifier for unique customer identifications.
