Patent number: 8060476Abstract: Improved backup and storage operations are disclosed for virtual computing environments using a backup proxy server to perform storage operations on one or more virtual machine disks. The proxy server can include a module that intercepts application programming interface (API) calls, for writing backup data to a first location, prior to the data arriving on the proxy disk. During the intercept process, the data can be compressed in memory pages of the proxy server and redirected to an alternative backup disk location. The proxy server can also include a differential engine that identifies changes to the virtual machine disk at the block level since the last full backup. The differential engine can advantageously leverage memory pages of the proxy server to compare differences between signatures of blocks of the last full backup with signatures of new blocks. Subsequently, only blocks with non-matching signatures are processed for backup.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2009Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Quest Software, Inc.Inventors: Delano Xavier Afonso, David Allen Feathergill, Jason Mattox, Jeremy Christopher Herman

Patent number: 7958169Abstract: A technique supports Change Notify watches in virtualized storage systems. In particular, techniques of the present invention advantageously emulate Change Notify features (e.g., as documented by the CIFS protocol) on virtualized storage systems by leveraging virtualization mapping information (e.g., an inode-to-path or “I2P” mapping) to walk a file system tree backwards from the data blocks to their ancestors to determine whether there are applicable watches on ancestor directories, and to obtain a pathname (e.g., relative) of the watched (changed) data. In particular, changes to data received from different protocols (e.g., CIFS, NFS, HTTP, etc.) can trigger watches to clients on the virtualized storage system. Also, performance may be enhanced using various caching techniques, and watch state may be retained while moving watched data across volumes of the virtualized storage system.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2010Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Wesley R. Publication number: 20110080410Abstract: A system and a method for generating a digital storyboard in which characters with various emotions are produced. The digital storyboard generating system includes an emotion-expressing character producing unit to produce an emotion-based emotion-expressing character, and a storyboard generating unit to generate storyboard data using the emotion-expressing character. Optionally, cartoon-rendering is performed on the storyboard data to generate an image, where the image is output to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2008Publication date: April 7, 2011Inventors: Won-Hyoung LEE, Kil-Sang YOO

Patent number: 7917553Abstract: A system and methods for facilitation of enhanced user interactions with metadata corresponding to one or more media files. A number of user interface methods are described and may be used alone or in combination with one another to present an enhanced metadata entry and modification interface to a user. A method of providing for automated step through of media files for metadata entry is described, as well as a method for quickly presenting the user with the most appropriate media sample from which an appropriate metadata entry or modification can be made by the user.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2010Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Universal Electronics Inc.Inventors: Jonathan L. Patent number: 7908299Abstract: A method for converting a table object from a first partitioning type to a second partitioning type includes steps or acts of gathering information including a definition of a clustering index of the table object; converting the table object of the first partitioning type into a virtual table object of the second partitioning type by virtually applying the information to a clustering index of the table object such that the virtual table object represents how the table object will appear when it is explicitly converted; and presenting the virtual table object to a user for viewing and manipulating as a table of the second partitioning type before generating an explicit conversion to said second partitioning type.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2008Date of Patent: March 15, 2011Assignee: Computer Associates Think, Inc.Inventor: Wayne Joseph Barbarek

Publication number: 20110055178Abstract: A data slice to be stored in a dispersed storage unit of the dispersed storage system is received. A plurality of data blocks are generated from the data slice and metadata are generated associated with each of the plurality of data blocks. A data file is generated based on the plurality of data blocks. A metadata file is generated based on the metadata associated with the plurality of data blocks. The metadata file and the data file are stored in at least one memory of the dispersed storage unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2010Publication date: March 3, 2011Applicant: CLEVERSAFE, INC.Inventor: Zachary J. Publication number: 20110046891Abstract: The crystal structure of the ligand binding domain of ERR-? in complex with a ligand that forms a reversible thioether bond to Cys325 of ERR-?, methods to measure dissociation rates for ligands that form reversible covalent bonds, and methods to design ligands that form reversible covalent bonds for use as modulators of ERR-? activity are disclosed. The crystal structure and methods provide a novel molecular mechanism for modulation of the activity of ERR-? and provide the basis for rational drug design to obtain potent specific ligands for use as modulators of the activity of this new drug target.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2010Publication date: February 24, 2011Inventors: Dionisios Rentzeperis, Marta Cristina Abad, Ludmila A. Publication number: 20110040813Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an importing unit, a setting unit, a display, an input unit, a replacement unit, and a transmitter. The importing unit is configured to import a metadata format file having described process information on an image file. The setting unit is configured to set setting items in which the process information is described as at least one of parameters. The display is configured to display a destination for the image file so as to be selected. The input unit is configured to select the destination and input the setting items in the metadata format file corresponding to the selected destination. The replacement unit is configured to replace at least one of the parameters with details. The transmitter is configured to transmit the metadata format file replaced by the replacement unit to the destination along with the image file.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2010Publication date: February 17, 2011Applicants: KABUSHIKI KAISHA TOSHIBA, TOSHIBA TEC KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Beniko Oue, Takao Iwasaki

Patent number: 7890552Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for implementing media content analysis, distribution, and re-allocation services across a network are provided. The method includes analyzing factors that impact access to, and quality of, the media content provided over the network. The method also includes identifying a current storage location of the media content, creating decision criteria and metrics for re-allocating selected media content to an alternate storage location in response to the analyzing, and re-allocating the selected media content to the alternate storage location. The method further includes updating an inventory database to reflect the alternate storage of the selected media content.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2006Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventor: Andrew Reichman
