Abstract: Systems and methods are described for remote control of a media server computer from a controller device, typically a laptop computer, where remote operation of the media server, including the selection of videos and other digital media may be performed from the controller while normal TV programming (cable, satellite, or broadcast) is viewed on the TV. Other embodiments describe background operations performed on the controller device, the media server, or both, such that new videos may be located on the web or locally on the LAN while a current video is playing on the media server and viewed on the TV. Methods are also described for more reliably establishing network connections between the controller and media server, and systems and methods are described for implementing a multi-video display on the media server where videos to be displayed on the media server are displayed on and selected by a controller device.

If the connection is established, then the local proxy module may receive one or more additional streams and may direct the one or more additional streams to the remote proxy module utilizing an accelerated mode. If the connection is not established, then the local transparent proxy module may direct the first stream to the remote destination utilizing a non-accelerated mode. A machine-readable medium and a method are also disclosed.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems, software and methods for monitoring events on a computer. In a set of embodiments, a monitoring application monitors events on a monitored computer. Each of the monitored events may be analyzed, and based on the analysis, some or all of the monitored events may be collected. A variety of rules may be used in analyzing events. In some cases, collected events can be queued, for example, by storing a representation of each collected event in an event cache. When connectivity with a monitoring computer is available, a connection with the monitoring computer may be established, and/or the queued events may be transmitted to the monitoring computer. In a particular set of embodiments, the monitoring application is designed to avoid detection by a user of the monitored computer.

Abstract: A system for implementing a loyalty program includes a personal terminal, an interaction terminal, and a loyalty module. The personal terminal may be associated with a user. The interaction terminal may be associated with a product or service. The interaction terminal and the personal terminal may be operable to establish a communication when in proximity of each other. The loyalty module may be operable to provide a benefit to the user in response to the communication. The benefit may be provided without regard to whether the user obtained or purchased the product or service.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a method includes intercepting a configuration message from a first network node addressed to a third network node, and modifying the intercepted configuration message to provide a modified configuration message that includes address information associated with a second network node that is configured to provide bootstrap information for the third node.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include methods (and corresponding systems and computer program products) that augment content in web pages with resources and provide the resources based on user interaction with the augmented content in the web pages. The disclosed embodiments analyzes a web page to identify a keyword, locates a piece of reference data matching the identified keyword, generates an association of the located piece of reference data and the keyword, and embeds the association in an augmented web page. Upon receiving a request from a client computer corresponding to a pointer being positioned over the keyword in the augmented web page, the disclosed embodiments determines relevant resources, and transmits the resources to the client computer for display in a multi-layered dialog box, such that a viewer can access the plurality of resources by interacting with the multi-layered dialog box without leaving the augmented web page.

Abstract: A method is provided for managing the scheduling of a plurality of print jobs for a print shop. The method includes obtaining a print job input stream including the plurality of print jobs. Each of the plurality of print jobs is scheduled for processing unless at least one of the plurality of print jobs is determined to be a disturbance job, the disturbance job causing delays in processing of other print jobs in the plurality of print jobs that would not occur but for the existence of the disturbance job in the print job input stream. The disturbance job is then assigned a processing related value that increases over time, and scheduling of the disturbance job is delayed until the processing related value exceeds a selected threshold value.

The table index receives input values from an event processing module and selects one or more of the nodes that have subscriber request values corresponding to the received input values. The event processor receives event data from a predetermined source, and formats the input values to simplify the operations performed by the event matching table. The event notification matching system is configured such that the event data need not be compared to non-matching nodes in the event matching table.

Abstract: A method of communicating node status in a star network comprising a hub and a plurality of nodes comprises sending a first message to the hub from a first node included in the plurality of nodes; forwarding the first message from the hub to at least one second node included in the plurality of nodes; communicating status information to the hub from the at least one second node after receiving at least a portion of the first message at the at least one second node; compiling a status vector based on the status information received from each of the at least one second nodes; and sending the status vector from the hub to at least the first node.

Abstract: Systems and methods for a contextual data platform are provided. According to one embodiment, an Internet-enabled mobile device is provided, including a storage device having embodied thereon instructions and one or more processors operable to execute the instructions. An HTTP request relating to a service supported by the server device and contextual information including (a) information regarding an end user, (b) information regarding the mobile device and (c) information regarding a location of the mobile device are concurrently transmitted to the server device. Responsive to the request and the contextual information, an HTML file within which contextual menu information based on the service and the contextual information is embedded is received from the server device. Contextual menu information is extracted from the HTML file. End user interaction with the service is customized by dynamically reconfiguring a browser menu of the mobile device based on the contextual menu information.

Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques that enable a subscriber of a data center to manage a site collection group hosted by the data center. A site collection group is a set of site collections that belong to a single subscriber. A site collection is a collection of websites. A website is a collection of related resources. Each of the site collections is associated with an “owner”. As described herein, the data center presents management interfaces that enable owners of site collections to manage the site collections. In addition, the data center presents management interfaces that enable subscribers to manage architectural aspects of their site collection groups.

Abstract: A task manager for use in a multi-user, multi-organizational environment is presented. Generally, the task manager enables users of devices or networked devices or systems, e.g., client/server arrangements, in different organizations to task and be tasked across organizational boundaries. The task manager provides a user interface through which users can generate, monitor and close tasks, as well as delegate tasks, decompose tasks generating subtasks and provide status updates for tasks and subtasks. The user interface allows a task-centric view in which an originator of a task can monitor the status of the task (including any and all related subtasks). It also allows a user-centric view in which tasks assigned by and to the same user can be viewed. In the task manager a task has a format that associates it with task attributes such as task identifier and user-provided attributes including name of task originator, name of task assignee, status, title and task description.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a server maintains a plurality of fax messages associated with a user. Each fax message of the plurality of fax messages has a state that indicates at least a status of read or unread for the fax message. A HTTP connection is established between the server and a phone that serves as a client through which the plurality of fax messages are viewable. States of one or more fax messages are identified at the server and at the phone that serves as the client. One or more synchronization actions are performed, using the HTTP connection, to synchronize the one or more fax messages at the server and the one or more corresponding fax messages at the phone that serves as the client.

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems, methods, and computers are disclosed for detecting and/or managing carrier-controlled requests for a web site. One embodiment is a method system for providing a web site to mobile communication devices. The system comprises a mobile communication device and a server. The mobile communication device is configured to communicate with the server via a communication network and comprises a carrier-controlled user interface for accessing a web site. The server is configured to provide the web site to the mobile communication device and comprises an on-deck detection system and an on-deck/off-deck management system embodied in a memory and executed by a processor. The on-deck detection system detects requests for the web site from the carrier-controlled user interface, and the on-deck/off-deck management system manages the requests.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus to monitor mobile Internet activity are disclosed. An example method comprises receiving a request for Internet content on a port of a proxy, the request originating from a mobile device transmitting requests via a cellular wireless access point; associating the request for Internet content with a mobile device based on the first port; requesting content from an Internet content provider identified in the request for Internet content, the Internet content provider being different than the proxy; and transmitting the content.

Abstract: Methods, computer program products, and apparatuses are provided for performing and facilitating secure communication between a client-side computing device and a remote application server through a virtual computing environment provided by an intermediate virtualization server. The virtual computing environment includes a disposable component, allowing all settings to be initialized to a secure state after each user session.

Abstract: A method quantifies unread content items for a stream subscribed to by a user. The stream includes a time-ordered list of content items from two or more content feeds. Each content feed includes a set of content items published by a respective publication source. The method includes determining a count of content items having an unread status in accordance with read state information stored for the user with respect to the stream, and transmitting the count to a client system for display.

Abstract: Cookie files are screened in a client machine, wherein a cookie file includes a cookie file source. A request from a subscriber is received at a server to send a list of untrusted cookie file sources to the client machine. The list of untrusted cookie file sources is downloaded from the server to the client machine. The downloaded list of untrusted cookie file sources is used to detect cookie files received at the client machine from cookie file sources on the downloaded list by comparing the cookie file source of any received cookie file to the untrusted cookie file sources on the downloaded list.

Abstract: An electronic system for bargaining and promoting in a shopping area is disclosed. A mobile communication device carried by a customer may be connected to the electronic system at a point of display item through an ad hoc communication link. The customer may send an offering price for the displayed item. The retailer and the customer may negotiate using the electronic system as long as the mobile device is connected to the system in the shopping area. The customer may also send communication addresses to the system at the point of display item. The retailer may send promotional materials related to the displayed item to the customer through a public communication network.

Abstract: A method for playing music includes displaying a list of playlists names, selecting one of the displayed playlists names, sending at least one attribute of a playlist corresponding to the selected playlist name to a playlist server, receiving a playlist from the playlist server wherein the received playlist corresponds to the attribute(s), selecting at least one song from the received playlist, sending information representative of the selected song to a content server, receiving the selected song from the content server, and playing the selected song(s). Requesting a playlist on the first device based on attributes, sending the same attributes to a second device having the second device request the playlist and start playing.

Abstract: A system and method for context driven centralized help is provided. A daemon application initiated on a workstation or mobile device is configured to intercept a help request received in connection with an active application when a pre-defined triggering event is invoked. The daemon application captures context corresponding to the current page or function in use with the active application and generates a corresponding information dataset pertaining to the captured context. The information dataset is transmitted to a remote site, configured to query a content database, to determine if help-related content has been previously associated with the captured context, wherein a positive determination of the existence of such an association results in the help-related content being retrieved and displayed on the workstation or mobile device.

Abstract: Improved techniques that enable users to download digital media assets are disclosed. According to one aspect, digital media assets that a user has acquired from a remote media repository can be authorized for download multiple times. This, for example, allows a user to subsequently re-downloaded digital media assets that the user previously acquired. In one embodiment, digital media assets that a user previously downloaded to a user client device from a remote media repository can be made available to the user for subsequent re-download. Advantageously, a remote media repository can, in effect, provide users with a remote backup for previously acquired digital media assets.

The method operates on a private mobile network, which includes a mobility server, mobile components and fixed components, on which the mobility server includes data storage units that store data on behalf of network members, at least some of such data being stored in multiple data formats. Abstract: In related art, the terminal can receive a particular task from a server, and perform the received particular task, only after the terminal reports to the server that a particular event has occurred. But, according to the present invention, the server provides the particular task in advance of the occurrence of the particular event. Meanwhile, according to the present invention, a routing service is provided between elements within the terminal, so that the elements within the terminal can be separated. Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of synchronizing a cache that substantially eliminates or reduces disadvantages associated with previously developed systems and methods of synchronizing caches. More particularly, embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for bi-directional synchronization of a cache. One embodiment of the system of this invention includes a software program stored on a computer readable medium. The software program can be executed by a computer processor to run in user space and perform steps comprising: receiving a database asset from a database; storing the database asset as a cached file in a cache; determining if the cached file has been modified; and if the cached file has been modified, communicate the cached file directly to the database. In one embodiment of the present invention, the software program can determine if the cached file has been modified through automatic notification from a file management system.

Abstract: A process, apparatus, and method for online control and database collection and management of a computerized detection, tracking, and feedback control system. The system tests for nutrients by Raman scattering effects on skin or other tissues to determine the content of carotenoids or other nutrients as evidenced in that skin. Serum levels of nutrients may vary dramatically with time, but skin tissues may average such nutrition over time. Skin and other tissues may be scanned with light to produce accurate measurements of carotenoids or other nutrients accumulated in the skin based on the Raman scattering affect of those nutrients in the skin. A score can be derived from a properly calibrated bio-photonic scanner to reflect an averaged effective uptake of the detected nutrient (e.g. such as the carotenoid example).

Abstract: A message is provided to a tracking server system in response to a client system referencing a predetermined resource locator that corresponds to a resource external to the tracking server system. The tracking server system indirectly provides for the client system to have an informational element selectable by the client system, where the informational element is graphically identified on the client system with informational content obtainable from a content server system through use of a content resource locator. The informational element includes a tracking resource locator, referencing the tracking server system, and data identifying the informational element. The selection of the informational element causes the client system to use the tracking resource locator to provide the data to the tracking server system and to use the content resource locator to obtain the informational content from the content server system.

At least one workflow on at least one of the one or more network resources can be executed based on the orchestration. For example, the at least one workflow can comprise a workflow for performing content aggregation, a workflow for performing management of content, a workflow for performing management of a service, a workflow for performing delivery of content or a service, etc.

Abstract: The interactive messaging system of the present invention provides for an interactive communication process between users, both senders and recipients. The sender composes a message by filling in a template stored in data services. Once completed, the sender pushes the message to a recipient's wireless device if the wireless device contains a WAP browser, which is capable of receiving pushed messages. Typically the message includes a question along with answers for the recipient to choose from. Each answer corresponds with a pre-assigned response key and the recipient answers the question by selecting one of the pre-assigned response keys. The recipient's response is available to the sender in the form of an e-mail, WAP Push, on-line access or interactive message that is shown to the sender on an on-line status screen.

Abstract: Disclosed is an authentication method employing elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), applicable to a mobile broadcast TV system having one or more head end systems, at least a transmitter, and at least a mobile set. The authentication method comprises at least one request message from mobile sets simultaneously or in a short period of time arriving at a head end system for authentication; manipulating each broadcast authentication message by ECC; manipulating each service request message by ECC and pairing operation; performing a mutual authentication between the head end system and mobile sets by ECC and pairing operation; and broadcasting one group of authentication messages to all the mobile sets of many requests arrived at the head end system simultaneously or in a short period of time for the same service.

Abstract: A method in electronic messaging in a mobile telecommunications network for mobile communication terminals is disclosed. The method involves, in a sender terminal, the steps of generating an electronic message, associating the electronic message with a message notification, and representing the electronic message and the message notification in a signal which is transmittable over the mobile telecommunications network to a receiver terminal. The signal is adapted, when received in the receiver terminal, for performance of the message notification in a user interface of the receiver terminal as a notification of the reception of the electronic message. Further disclosed are an associated method in a receiver terminal, and a sender terminal and a receiver terminal capable of performing the respective method, as well as a system including such sender and receiver terminals.

Abstract: Embodiments consistent with the principles of the invention provide client-server application problem-solving capabilities at sites remote from the operational site by supplying server response data to a copy of the client-side application running at the remote site. The client-side application running at the remote site receives the same inputs as the operational site application, allowing application problems and behavior to be reproduced at the remote site. Debugging tools, expertise, and other resources may be more efficiently applied at the remote site to solve problems and explain behavior than would be the case at the operational site.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing audio advertisements in a computer network enables Web sites to deliver audio advertisements that cannot be bypassed by a visitor. More particularly, an advertising or sponsoring Web site receives a request from at least one user for delivery of a user-selected Web page associated with the Web site. The Web site selects at least one audio advertisement from a plurality of audio advertisements for delivery to the user in conjunction with the user-selected Web page. The Web site then delivers the audio advertisement to the user via the network in a format that precludes the user from controlling the manner of playback of the audio advertisement.

The method includes the steps of receiving a request for specified content from a client node via the wide area network, and sending the content and an embedded agent to the client via the wide area network. The agent has program instructions configured to execute autonomously on the client node to perform a processing function. The processing function is configured to operate on raw data to produce process data, according to instructions determined by a solution algorithm of the distributed computing system. The method further includes sending the raw data to the client node and receiving the process data from the client node as it is processed by the agent. The host layer may comprise a web server hosting a web site containing consumer-oriented web pages, and the carrier may comprise an HTML page containing user content.
