  • Patent number: 7451215
Abstract: An OPC redirection manager maintains the information necessary for taking appropriate action when the target OPC server fails and for ensuring that no bad status is returned to the client. Any existing OPC client needing seamless failover between target OPC data access and/or alarm and event servers will connect to a uniquely configured instance of the redirection manager instead of connecting to the primary server. The client application continues to perform OPC related tasks as usual. Because each client connection is unique, the redirection manager itself is not a single point of failure. Each configured redirection manager instance monitors the health of the target server mode and the target server itself by subscribing to failure events.

  • Patent number: 7447161
Abstract: In an illustrative method for providing enhanced SONET network analysis, data related to the structure of a SONET network is identified, for example, in a database. The data comprises details regarding the network elements that form the SONET network as well as data regarding how the network elements are interconnected to form the SONET network. From the identified data, the nodes comprised in the SONET network are identified. Similarly, the plurality of communication links located between the identified nodes are retrieved from the data. Using the information identifying the nodes and plurality of communication links, a graphical representation of the SONET network is generated. In the graphical representation of the SONET network, nodes may be represented, for example, with a plurality of lines extending radially from a common point. Communication links between nodes are represented by lines that extend between the radial lines.

  • Patent number: 7447920
Abstract: A method of workload placement among servers includes receipt of a workload request. The method also includes selection of a group of servers from a set of servers capable of performing the requested workload. In addition, server workload indexes, which are ratios of temperature rises due to re-circulation load for the servers in the group of servers to temperature rises due to re-circulation load for the set of servers, of the servers in the group of servers are calculated. Moreover, the workload is placed on one or more of the servers in the group of servers based upon the server workload indexes of the servers in the group of servers.

  • Patent number: 7447153
Abstract: Session independent end to end route control is provided by coordination between a pair of route control devices. Each device determines whether received traffic qualifies for end to end route control and whether the device at the other end supports end to end route control. If so, then the route control devices determine a routing mode, such as tunneling or address translation, and routing parameters. The performance of the selected path is monitored and is changed if the performance becomes unacceptable. Path performance can be measured using one-way measurement techniques that use a common inbound path or a control channel.

  • Patent number: 7447940
Abstract: A system and method for providing singleton services in a cluster of servers, where one server is designated as a cluster master, other servers are designated as migratable servers and where all servers in the cluster heartbeat their liveness information against a database. The cluster master monitors the heartbeats of all migratable servers. Upon failure of a migratable server's heartbeat, the cluster master first attempts to restart the migratable server on the same machine and if that does not succeed, the cluster master migrates the migratable server to a different machine in the cluster. In accordance with an embodiment, all migratable servers monitor the heartbeats of the cluster master. Upon failure of the cluster master's heartbeating, one migratable server takes over the role of being cluster master.
