Abstract: This disclosure describes, generally, methods and systems for managing connections within a connection pool. The method includes initializing a plurality of connections. The plurality of connections are configured to pierce a firewall. The method further includes placing the plurality of connections in a connection pool, and storing creation times for each of the plurality of connections. The method then determines the firewall's connection teardown time period and, based at least in part on the firewall's connection teardown time period, setting the connection pool's connection teardown time period to be at least less than the firewall's connection teardown time period.

Abstract: A computer-executable method for allocating resource discovery and identification processes among a plurality of management tools and resources in a distributed and heterogeneous IT management system includes providing at least one authoritative manageable resource having minimal or no responsibility for reporting its identity, minimal or no responsibility for advertising any lifecycle-related creation event for the resource, and minimal or no responsibility for advertising any lifecycle-related destruction event for the resource; using a service oriented architecture (SOA) to define one or more services needed to manage the resource within the management system; and using a component model to define one or more interfaces and one or more interactions to be implemented by the manageable resource within the management system.

Abstract: A virtual network controller is described. The controller receives a request for the provision of a slice of a network to a virtual network operator. The controller determines whether the slice can be provided from existing resources, whether the slice can be provided if the existing resources are re-configured, or whether the slice can only be provided if additional resources are obtained. The controller then automatically takes the action required in order to provide the requested slice. The controller can also be used to release resources that are no longer required. Additionally, the controller can be used to re-optimize the network on request.

Abstract: Several different embodiments of a flexible virtual machine management system are described. The virtual machine management system is used to instantiate, wake, move, sleep, and destroy individual operating environments in a cloud or cluster. In various embodiments, the virtual machine management system uses single messages to perform complex operations, allowing for flexible and scalable use of virtual resources in a cluster while still reducing energy consumption to the minimum possible level. In one preferred embodiment, Wake-on-LAN packets are used as the messages.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a cloud computing system provides user extensibility by providing a plugin interface for major systems. Plugin interfaces for a compute service, object service, network service, authentication and authorization service, message service, and image service are disclosed. One or more of the plugin interfaces can be used to alter the allocation of virtual to physical resources across multiple services. Compound services and smart allocation facilities are possible with user-directed modification.

Abstract: The present invention provides for resource property aggregation. A set of new instances is received from one or more providers. For each new instance in the set of new instances, a determination is made as to whether the new instance represents a same resource as at least one other instance. Responsive to determining that the new instance represents the same resource as another instance, a set of properties associated with the new instance and with the at least one other instance are identified. Each property from the new instance is compared to an associated property in the at least one other instance using a set of precedence rules. At least one property value is identified from either the new instance or the at least one other instance. An aggregate instance is then generated that represents the resource using the identified property values.

Abstract: Global remappable addresses can be announced from multiple points across the Internet or other public networks. A global address can be mapped to one or more internal addresses for a provider, such that when traffic is received to a given network location the provider can determine whether the traffic is to be processed in the current network location or a different network location, as may be determined using a static process or a dynamic process based on any of a number of factors. If the traffic is destined for a different network location, the traffic can be remapped and forwarded to that network location over a public or private network. Once the traffic is in the determined destination network location, the traffic can be remapped and delivered to the ultimate destination. The remappings and destination network locations can be adjusted at any time, based on any of a number of factors, without significant risk of dropping traffic.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for accurately predicting capacity requirements for Information Technology (IT) resources in physical, virtual, cloud and hybrid cloud environments. The business demand is translated into IT application demand, which is translated into IT architecture layer demand. Resource groups are created for each IT application, IT architecture layer and resource type combination. The utilization for each IT resource group within the IT architecture layers is computed using the created resource groups, IT application demand and IT architecture layer demand. Under or over-utilized IT resource groups may be identified using the computed utilization for each IT resource group. Upon identifying such IT resources, an optimal resource profile (e.g., number of servers) for each resource group is computed.

Abstract: A method and system of load balancing application server resources operating in a distributed set of servers is described. In a representative embodiment, the set of servers comprise a region of a content delivery network. Each server in the set typically includes a server manager process, and an application server on which edge-enabled applications or application components are executed. As service requests are directed to servers in the region, the application servers manage the requests in a load-balanced manner, and without any requirement that a particular application server spawned on-demand.

Abstract: Computer-implemented methods for delegating access to online accounts and for facilitating delegates' access to these online accounts are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for delegating access to an online account comprises receiving a request to delegate access to a first online account to a first delegate, identifying the first online account, identifying a contact record for the first delegate, and delegating access to the first online account to the first delegate by associating the contact record for the first delegate with the first online account. Corresponding systems and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system that transmits data over multiple networks receives data packets at a client node and forms a plurality of data aggregates from the data packets. The system then sends a request for a duplicate transmission to a coordinator node on a first network. In response to the request, the system receives a first transmission slot on the first network and a second transmission slot on a second network for transmission of the data aggregates. The system then splits the data aggregates among the first transmission slot and the second transmission slot and transmits the data aggregates on the first transmission slot and the second transmission slot.

Abstract: The application discloses a resource assignment system including recovery notification procedures or methods to notify an application or node of potentially lost resources. The recovery notification procedures or calls are invoked in response to a recovery notification registration function. In response to recovery notification registration, a recovery notification or call is generated to report lost resources.

Abstract: Disclosed is a computer implemented method and computer program product for transmitting a resource record to a requesting computer. An authoritative domain name server receives a DNS query from a requesting computer at a name server. The authoritative domain name server looks up the resource record based on the DNS query, wherein the resource record is associated with an epochal time and a time to live. The authoritative domain name server transmits the resource record response based on the epochal time.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for graphics hardware resource usage in a fully virtualized computing environment. Exemplary embodiments include a method in a virtual data center having a first host and a second host, a graphics hardware resource usage the method including receiving a request for graphics hardware features that are unavailable on the first host, generating a first request to a provisioning broker to migrate a virtual machine residing on the first host to the second host having the graphics hardware features, migrating the virtual machine and a client connection to the second host, generating a second request to the provisioning broker to find a suitable host to which the virtual machine can migrate and migrating the virtual machine to the suitable host.

Abstract: Feedback received from users regarding potential problems with an application, service, or other source of electronic content can be configured to include additional information that help triangulate the source of the problem. Content provided by third parties can be combined with content from a primary provider, but the primary provider often will be unable to determine the precise instance of third party content that a user received that might have posed a problem for the user, as may relate to malware or another such issue. By configuring feedback submissions from users to automatically include identifying information, and by logging session data for various users, a content provider can analyze and filter the data to determine likely sources of the problem, and deactivate or otherwise address those sources. Further, the content provider can analyze the information to locate any users likely to have been exposed to the same third party content.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for traffic routing. An embodiment includes an engine for identifying groupings of subscriber stations within a particular ISP. The engine can also obtain a block of contiguous addresses for assignment to the subscriber stations. The addresses are assigned from the block to each of the subscriber stations in substantially contiguous sub-blocks based on the groupings. The groupings can be geographic or based on other desired criteria.

Abstract: A method for creates a directory service in a scalable peer-to-peer-network, which is distributed to groups having at least one peer. In order to release a resource and to start a search enquiry for a resource, allocation values are formed using an allocation instruction according to the resource allocation values from a predefined address area. Only one group is responsible for each allocation value and the release of a resource or search enquiry for a resource is transmitted to the responsible group only.

Abstract: A system, method, and service associated with a computing grid or a virtual organization include a request for proposal (RFP) generator, where the RFP describes a data processing task. The RFP is provided to multiple resource providers via the computing grid where each of the resource providers is potentially suitable for performing the data processing task on behalf of the resource consumer. An RFP response processor receives and evaluates RFP responses generated by one or more of the resource providers. An exception processor accessible to the RFP response processor evaluates any exception in the RFP to determine if the exception disqualifies the RFP response. The exceptions may include, for example, job time limit exceptions, resource requirement exceptions, hardware/software platform requirement exceptions and others. Exception rules may be defined to guide the evaluation of the exception.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer media for scheduling vertices in a distributed data processing network and allocating computing resources on a processing node in a distributed data processing network are provided. Vertices, subparts of a data job including both data and computer code that runs on the data, are assigned by a job manager to a distributed cluster of process nodes for processing. The process nodes run the vertices and transmit computing resource usage information, including memory and processing core usage, back to the job manager. The job manager uses this information to estimate computing resource usage information for other vertices in the data job that are either still running or waiting to be run. Using the estimated computing resource usage information, each process node can run multiple vertices concurrently.

Abstract: Connections for sources to connect to a network are managed by storing connection profiles identifying network attributes for the connections. Each connection profile includes a status of available or subscribed. Requests for connections are received. If a stored connection profile is available that matches the request, the connection for the matching connection profile is assigned to the source.

Abstract: A mechanism for the deployment of asynchronous agentless agent functionality in clustered environments. An agentless agent execution node in an agentless agent execution node cluster receives a context message comprising an asynchronous operation request and an execution context from a messaging service. The agent node determines if an entry for the execution context exists in an execution context state table of the agent node. If no entry exists, the agent node creates an execution context entry in the execution context state table of the agent node. The agent node retrieves an asynchronous code module associated with the asynchronous operation from a central repository. The asynchronous code module is then executed on a managed resource to detect asynchronous code events occurring on the managed resource. When asynchronous code events are detected at the managed resource, the agent node sends a message comprising the asynchronous code events to a management server.

Abstract: A cloud computing platform contains a structured storage subsystem the provides scalable queues. The cloud computing platform monitors message throughput for the scalable queues and automatically increases or decreases subqueues that provide the operational functionality for each scalable queue. A visibility start time and cloud computing platform time are maintained for each message to provide an approximate first-in-first-out order for messages within each subqueue. A message in a subqueue may be available for processing when the current cloud computing time is greater than the visibility start of the message.

Abstract: Various systems and method are disclosed for automatically disseminating key server contact information in a network. For example, one method (e.g., performed by a discovery server) involves generating a discovery message that includes at least one list of one or more key servers and then sending that discovery message to one or more members of a key management protocol group. Each list of key servers can include contact information for one or more key servers and indicate the priority of each key server relative to other key servers within the list.

Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for generating a human memorable resource name. Both a first part of the resource name and a second part of the resource name are generated, where both parts respectively comprise a memorable alphanumeric string (e.g., easily remembered). The first and second parts of the resource name are combined with an intervening separator symbol to generate the first resource name, comprising the first part, the symbol, and the second part. The first resource name is compared against a desired threshold to determine if it can be used as the name for the resource. If the first resource name does not meet the threshold a second resource name is generated for the resource.

Abstract: The present invention facilitates the dynamic provisioning of data assets in a shared storage environment. The invention provides a system and method for dynamically provisioning and de-provisioning shared storage resources based on multi-dimensional decision criteria. By employing specialized computing components configured to assess a data asset and requestor of a data asset, a provisioning engine is able to transform the input from the computing components into a specific configuration of shared storage resource provisioning and security controls. According to the rules and policies applying to a security domain, the provisioning engine may dynamically allocate shared storage resources in a manner that is both safe and efficient for the data asset.

In response to determining that the property value of the remote resource has the associated volatility measurement, a network transaction is invoked to retrieve the property value at an interval that is less than or equal to the associated volatility measurement. In response to determining that the property value of the remote resource does not include the associated volatility measurement, a frequency-based assessment is performed comparing a frequency of change and a frequency of access for the property value. Caching the property value is performed in response to comparing the frequency-based assessment to a threshold value.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for metering cloud resource consumption using multiple hierarchical subscription periods. A set of aggregate usage history data can record consumption of processor, software, or other resources subscribed to by a set of users, in one cloud or across multiple clouds. An entitlement engine can analyze the usage history data to identify a subscription margin for the subscribed resources, reflecting collective under-consumption of resources by the set of users on a collective basis, over different and/or dynamically updated subscription periods. In aspects, the entitlement engine or other logic can generate multiple hierarchical time periods or layers over which resource consumption can be tracked. For instance, processor usage can be tracked over blocks of two hours or other intervals, but can also be tracked over 24 hour intervals for which additional subscription costs, terms, or factors may apply.

Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for timely delivery of multimedia content via a femtocell are provided. In this regard, a femtocell may receive data via an upstream path and transmit data via a downstream path. One of the upstream path and downstream path may comprise a cellular path and the other may comprise a non-cellular path. One or both of the upstream path and the downstream path may be audio video bridging (AVB) paths. Data may be stored in the femtocell based on timing characteristics of one or both of the upstream path and the downstream path. Data may be delivered to the femtocell utilizing best effort delivery and the data may be forwarded by the femtocell with guaranteed quality of service. Resources in the femtocell may be reserved and/or synchronized, utilizing AVB protocols, for communication of one or more data streams.

The information is used to iteratively assign adapters to available slots of the VIOS hosts of the destination server to which a client partition is to be migrated. The method includes providing at least two metadata tables of a broadcast stream, performing a cross table analysis on the metadata tables to determine consistency between the metadata tables, and displaying the result of the cross table analysis of the metadata tables using a graphical user interface.

Abstract: A security system for a computer network that has a plurality of devices connected thereto comprises a security subsystem, a master system and a secure link. The security subsystem is connected to at least some of the devices in the network. The security subsystem is configured to monitor activities of the at least some devices on the network and detect attacks on the at least some devices. The master system monitors the integrity of the security subsystem and registers information pertaining to attacks detected by the security subsystem. The secure link is connected between the security subsystem and the master system. The master system monitors the integrity of the security subsystem and receives the information pertaining to the attacks through the secure link.

Abstract: A hybrid channel assignment method comprising the steps of negotiating among routers to select one router to act as a central server; collecting, at the selected router, information on an entire network transmitted from the other routers, and assigning channels based upon the information on the entire network; and reassigning channels of respective routers based upon dynamically-changing traffic characteristics. The hybrid channel assignment method can assign channels using both centralized processing and distributed processing in order to ensure optimally correct channel assignment consistent with present traffic characteristics. This as a result can prevent network resources from being wasted and also increase network capacity, thereby optimizing effective use of the network resources.

Abstract: The present disclosure described herein relates to a device and method for managing access to a server. The method comprises: receiving information regarding a current capability of the wireless electronic device from the electronic wireless device; analyzing the information with operating parameters of the servers to identify a second set of servers in the network that are compatible with the current capability; generating and sending access requests to the second set of servers; monitoring for responses from the second set of servers to the access requests; and generating and sending a response to the wireless electronic device providing information relating to the second responses from the second set of servers.

Abstract: A system and a method are provided. Performance and capacity statistics, with respect to an application executing on one or more VMs, may be accessed and collected. The collected performance and capacity statistics may be analyzed to determine an improved hardware profile for efficiently executing the application on a VM. VMs with a virtual hardware configuration matching the improved hardware profile may be scheduled and deployed to execute the application. Performance and capacity statistics, with respect to the VMs, may be periodically analyzed to determine whether a threshold condition has occurred. When the threshold condition has been determined to have occurred, performance and capacity statistics, with respect to VMs having different configurations corresponding to different hardware profiles, may be automatically analyzed to determine an updated improved hardware profile. VMs for executing the application may be redeployed with virtual hardware configurations matching the updated improved profile.

Abstract: Provisioning resources in public cloud infrastructure to perform at least part of electronic design automation (EDA) tasks on the public cloud infrastructure. The provisioning of resources is handled by a cloud provisioning system that is generally operated and maintained by an EDA tool developer using a provisioning credential. After the resources are provisioned, the cloud provisioning system places user key on the provisioned resources. Once the user key is placed on the provisioned resources, the cloud provisioning system has only limited access or no access to the provisioned resources. Instead, a user client device takes over the control of the provisioned resources by using a user's access credential. The provisioning credential is retained by the EDA tool developer and is not released to the user. Similarly, the access credential is retained by the user and not released to the EDA tool developer.

A method comprises transmitting a first boundary indication to a mobile station, and transmitting a position indication to the mobile station, wherein the position indication corresponds to a network resource assigned based on a network resource request, the position indication is relative to the first boundary indication. The method also comprises transmitting a second boundary indication to the mobile station in response to detecting a change in a position of a boundary, and transmitting a first transmission to the mobile station using a network resource corresponding to the position indication or receiving a second transmission from the mobile station using a network resource corresponding to the position indication, wherein the position indication is relative to the second boundary indication. The first boundary indication is based on a position of the boundary.

Abstract: A technique dynamically utilizes a plurality of multi-homed Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels from a client node to one or more enterprise networks in a computer network. According to the technique, a VPN client node, e.g., a “spoke,” creates a plurality of multi-homed VPN tunnels with one or more servers/enterprise networks, e.g., “hubs.” The spoke designates (e.g., for a prefix) one of the tunnels as a primary tunnel and the other tunnels as secondary (backup) tunnels, and monitors the quality (e.g., loss, delay, reachability, etc.) of all of the tunnels, such as, e.g., by an Optimized Edge Routing (OER) process. The spoke may then dynamically re-designate any one of the secondary tunnels as the primary tunnel for a prefix based on the quality of the tunnels to the enterprise. Notably, the spoke may also dynamically load balance traffic to the enterprise among the primary and secondary tunnels based on the quality of those tunnels.

Abstract: A method, computer readable medium and system for user load balancing includes identifying when an overall load in at least one of two or more servers exceeds one or more thresholds that are related to one or more user loads. One or more of the user loads in the identified overall load in one of the servers are transferred to one or more of the other servers when the one or more thresholds is exceeded.

According to one aspect, a computer-implemented method of reporting an availability status of resources associated with a server in a network includes determining the availability status of resources associated with the server. The message including the availability status of resources associated with the server is then sent.
