Abstract: A Secure Remote Peripheral Encryption Tunnel (SeRPEnT) can be implemented in a portable embedded device for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) with a much more restricted attack surface than a general purpose client computer. The SeRPEnT device can comprise a small, low-power “cryptographic switchboard” that can operate in a trusted path mode and a pass-through mode. In the trusted path mode, the SeRPEnT device can tunnel connected peripherals through the client to a server with Virtual Machine (VM)-hosted applications. In the pass-through mode, the SeRPEnT device can pass-through the connected peripherals to the client system, allowing normal use of the local system by the user. SeRPEnT can also enable secure transactions between the user and server applications by only allowing input to the VMs to originate from the SeRPEnT device.

Abstract: A system and method for coordinating control setting with respect to an automated input/output (I/O) processor. A state machine having a transition algorithm can be configured in association with a storage controller in order to permit multiple entities to safely transmit an I/O request to an I/O device. Specific combinations of control bits associated with a fast path engine can be determined by identifying different modes with respect to the behavior of the fast path engine. Each mode can be assigned as a state with respect to the state machine. An I/O path exception and error condition that can cause transitions between the states can be determined and the transitions can be assigned from one state to another state. A generic logic template can then be configured to govern the transitions with respect to the state machine. • Patent number: 8370668
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable information apparatus which can realize electrical power for a longer period of time. Under the condition that the suspending mode is set, when an exclusive key is manipulated, a switch monitoring circuit detects this condition and issues an interruption to the CPU. In this timing, the CPU supplies the necessary electrical power to the CD-ROM controller, CD-ROM drive and audio circuit which are required for reproduction of CD. Thereby, a CD can be reproduced under the suspending mode.

  • Patent number: 8370534
Abstract: A method of routing data in an information handling system can include receiving a notification from a management controller at a basic input/output system (BIOS) that includes a system management interrupt (SMI) handler. The a notification can indicate that the management controller has a data packet bound for a peripheral component interconnect express input/output (PCIe I/O) device coupled to a secondary processor. The method can include generating a system management interrupt at the information handling system via the BIOS SMI handler in response to the notification. The method can also include retrieving the data packet from the management controller via the BIOS SMI handler and sending a payload associated with the data packet from the BIOS SMI handler to the PCIe I/O device.

  • Patent number: 8364873
Abstract: A data transmission system is provided. The data transmission system includes a serial peripheral interface (SPI) and a programmable controller. The SPI is coupled between a first device and at least one second device. The programmable controller controls the SPI to switch between a single port data transmission mode and a multi-port data transmission mode. When there are more than one second device coupled to the SPI, the SPI is switched to the multi-port data transmission mode so as to perform multi-port data transmission between the first device and the second devices. At this time, the first device concurrently transmits data to each of the second devices via a first transmission bus terminal, and concurrently receives data from each of the second devices via a second transmission bus terminal.

  • Patent number: 8364857
Abstract: A computing device includes a low power auxiliary processor, such as a processor on a wireless card or sub-system, which is able to takeover processing in place of the computing device's central processing unit (CPU). Operating the computing device on the auxiliary processor draws less power from the computing device battery, enabling extended operation in an auxiliary processor mode. When in this mode, the auxiliary processor controls peripherals and provides the system functionality while the CPU is deactivated, such as in “off,” “standby” or “sleep” modes. In the auxiliary processor mode, the computing device can accomplish useful tasks, such as sending/receiving electronic mail, displaying electronic documents and accessing a network while drawing minimal power from the battery. Transitions between the normal operating mode and auxiliary processor mode may be transparent to users. Such a computer may display instant on, always on and always connected operating features.

Abstract: A method and device are provided for activating certain functions of a powered-off device having a serial data bus interface when it is attached to a powered device via the serial bus interface. On detection of a voltage on the power line of the serial bus, the processor of the device is booted in a special operation mode, wherein certain functions of the serial data bus interface can be used without powering the complete device. The device may then be enumerated by the attached host device and for example allow access to its memory unit or use the power signal on the serial bus interface for battery charging.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for communicating NOR-type flash specific memory commands from a DRAM memory controller to a NOR-type flash memory array without disrupting DRAM operation. In this embodiment flash specific commands are channeled from the DRAM controller to the flash device by using the DRAM protocol as a transport layer. Data to be written to the NOR-type flash memory array are loaded into a data register and a sequence of programming commands are loaded into a mode register as a series of mode register write operations. Once the entire sequence of programming commands is loaded the NOR-type flash memory array the data in the data register is loaded into the NOR-type flash memory array. Other methods and circuits are also disclosed.

Abstract: A packet communication device autonomously selects an appropriate operation mode according to a connection environment to an external device before a service of the device is started. When the device is connected to the external buses, connection interface units notify an external device discrimination unit of connection of the device. The external device discrimination unit issues a polling packet to the connected device, discriminates the connected external device on the basis of the response packet, and notifies an operation mode switching unit. The operation mode switching unit selects an operation mode conforming to a connection environment of the packet communication device to the external device and switches the operation mode of the device to the mode.
