  • Patent number: 8898491
Abstract: A Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) includes a pulse width modulator and driver circuit (PWMDC), a processor, and high-side and low-side driver circuitry. The PWMDC, along with components external to the PMIC, forms a switching power supply. A small linear regulator powers the PWMDC from power received via a terminal. The power supply supplies power to other on-chip circuitry, including the driver circuitry and processor. The PWMDC starts an on pulse (of a power supply switching cycle) in response to a clock signal. In a first mode, the PWMDC stops the on pulse based on a signal received from a terminal via an analog feedback signal path. In a second mode, the PWMDC stops the on pulse based on a signal received via a digital feedback signal path. In one example, the digital feedback signal path extends from a terminal, through an ADC, processor, and DAC, to an error node.

Abstract: Systems and methods that employ interactions between quantum computing systems and digital computing systems are described. For an iterative method, a quantum computing system may be designed, operated, and/or adapted to provide a rate of convergence that is greater than the rate of convergence of a digital supercomputer. When the digital supercomputer is iteratively used to evaluate an objective function at a cost incurred of C per iteration, the quantum computing system may be used to provide the input parameter(s) to the objective function and quickly converge on the input parameter(s) that optimize the objective function. Thus, a quantum computing system may be used to minimize the total cost incurred CT for consumption of digital supercomputer resources when a digital supercomputer is iteratively employed to evaluate an objective function.

  • Patent number: 8886970
Abstract: A Multi-Tile Power Management Integrated Circuit (MTPMIC) includes tiles including an MCU/ADC tile and a power manager tile. The power manager tile includes a set of Configurable Switching Power Supply Pulse Width Modulator (CSPSPWM) components. These components, in combination with other circuitry external to the integrated circuit, are configurable to form a selected one of a number of different switching power supply circuits. Upon power up, an internal regulator supplies power to the CSPSPWM. The CSPSPWM then controls the power supply to begin switching in a low frequency start-up mode. The CSPSPWM determines during start-up the current sensing method based on circuitry external to the integrated circuit. A supply voltage generated is then supplied via a conductor of a standardized bus to a processor in the MCU/ADC tile. The processor begins executing instructions, and as a result writes across the standardized bus to configure the various tiles of the MTPMIC.

  • Patent number: 8880863
Abstract: A reset and reboot circuit applied in an X86 electronic portable device is provided. The reset and reboot circuit includes: a first level controller; a first switch, turned on in response to a reset/reboot event to enable a control signal; a second level controller, enabling an output signal in response to the enabled control signal; and a logic unit, for disabling a drive signal in response to the enabled output signal. The X86 electronic portable device is driven by the disabled drive signal to reset and reboot, and an embedded controller of the X86 electronic portable device provides an enabled restart signal after it has been reset. The first level controller further disables the output signal in response to the enabled restart signal.

Abstract: System and method controlling connectivity within a device. A device may be coupled to a host device. In response to the coupling, low power logic (e.g., an embedded device) of the device may be coupled to the host device. The low power logic may perform enumeration with the host device using only power provided by the host device. The low power logic may also charge a battery of the device using power provided by the host device. Device circuitry of the device may provide a signal for coupling to the host device. In response, the device circuitry may be coupled to the host device and may perform device enumeration with the host device.

  • Patent number: 8880860
Abstract: A processor reset control circuit is configured to automatically capture a pre-reset value of processor information stored in one or more hardware registers, as part of a reset operation state machine and prior to changing the processor information to its architecturally required post reset value. Such pre-reset processor information includes, for example one or more pre-reset values of the processor program counter (PC) and one or more pre-reset values of an operating-state mode register, both of which may be captured in one or more pre-reset capture storage devices which are then made available for evaluation purposes. Such pre-reset capture storage devices store pre-reset information in response to the reset and maintain the stored pre-reset information until another reset occurs.

  • Patent number: 8874889
Abstract: A method of switching between multiple operating systems of a computer system includes the following steps. Firstly, the computer system is in an environment of a first operating system. Then, a system management interrupt is triggered to allow the computer system to enter a system management mode, and a controlling authority of the computer system is transferred from the first operating system to a basic input output system. Then, a backup of a first environmental parameter of the first operating system is created. If the second environmental parameter is not included in the computer system, a second operating system is loaded in a normal mode. On the other hand, if the second environmental parameter is included in the computer system, the second operating system is booted according to the second environmental parameter.

Abstract: Methods and devices for selectively presenting a user interface or “desktop” across two devices are provided. More particularly, a unified desktop is presented across a device and a computer system. The unified desktop acts as a single user interface that presents data and receives user interaction in a seamless environment that emulates a personal computing environment. To function within the personal computing environment, the unified desktop includes a sleep state where both the device and computer system become inactive. The unified desktop may be awakened by one of numerous actions by the unified system or the user.

  • Patent number: 8874893
Abstract: Awareness of the relationships among the operating parameters for an individual core and among cores allows dynamic and intelligent management of the multi-core system. The relationships among operating parameters and cores, which can be somewhat opaque, are established with design-time simulations, and adapted with run time data collected from operation of the multi-core system. The relationships are expressed with functions that translate between operating parameters, between different cores, and between operating parameters of different cores. These functions are embodied in circuitry built into the multi-core system. The circuitry will be referred to hereinafter as a translator unit. The translator unit traverses the complex relational dependencies among multiple operating parameters and multiple cores, and determines an outcome with respect to one or more constraints corresponding to those operating parameters and cores.
