Abstract: Tools and techniques are provided to support presentation analytics, such as Flash or Flex analytics, independently of embedded JavaScript web analytics code used in web pages. A presentation analytics engine, which may be implemented in ActionScript, includes code for capturing information about user interaction with a multimedia presentation, code for dynamically generating a string or other data structure reflecting such captured information, and code for sending the data structure to an analytics server without using a getURL( ) call or embedded JavaScript. Functionality is also provided for tracking objects without object-specific code, for dynamically sending such tracking information, and for supporting a visual presentation analytics overlay report illustrating such information. The Flash presentation analytics may use the same visitor ID as standard JavaScript analytics, without synchronizing the two analytics codes.

Abstract: Computer-storage media, methods, and systems for formatting and surfacing a badge are provided. The badge represents a graphical region presented in visual association with a search result on a web-results page. The format of the badge is initially dictated by a template that is automatically generated. Upon collecting performance information, a website owner is granted permission to alter the template and appearance of the badge, via a publisher portal. During interaction with the publisher portal, the website owner is prompted to provide feedback in order to manage parameters of the badge, such as uploading a visual representation of a logo, trademark, or other branded element, or specifying a type of metadata to be imported to the graphical region. Accordingly, the badge operates to improve a users' ability to distinguish between search results on the web-results page and assists users in confidently deciding upon and selecting a relevant search result.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and system of private neighborhood social networks, according to one embodiment. In one aspect, a method of providing users of information with timely information about a news story related to the geographic locations of the users includes receiving a submission of a news story from the Internet via a computer network interface device. A contact database is searched to select users whose geographic locations indicate a proximity to the geographic location of the news story. The selected users are provided with the geographic location of the news story, the description of the details of the news story, and the information related to items associated with the news story. An interested user is enabled to form an immediate communication in the form of an online interview with a neighboring user surrounding the specific geographic location of the news story.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing shared state within a distributed system with varying consistency and consensus semantics are described. In one configuration, a computing device receives a first plurality of objects representing the state of a first item and a second plurality of objects representing the state of a second item. The computing device generates a composed view of the state of each of the first item and the second item. The resulting composed views are transmitted using a reliable multicast protocol.

Abstract: An adaptive streaming server, a method, and a system are described herein that create a content stream to be delivered to one or more clients by segmenting the content into data structures which are stored in random access memory (volatile storage) rather than segmenting the content into segment files which are stored on a disk or database (non-volatile storage).

Abstract: A method includes receiving a document encoded in a markup language, having a page with an image and text, and creating a first high-level graphics (HLG) object corresponding to the image. The first HLG object specifies a first z-index less than zero for the first HLG object. The method further includes generating a first entry in an input file including a pointer to the first HLG object, generating a second entry in the input file corresponding to the text, and generating an output file using a typesetting program and the input file. In response to the first z-index not being zero, the method includes parsing the output file to identify the page, creating the page ItemHandles List (IL), and adding a first ItemHandle including the pointer and corresponding to the first entry to the IL. The method further includes generating a display list using the output file and the IL.

Abstract: A method for managing a web application initiated by a user is disclosed which enables navigation between two or more wizards while executing said web application. Predefined instructions ensure that a user can execute a plurality of steps in different orders when navigating between two or more wizards without losing any data that has been executed in a previous step. That is, content, such as an image or video, may portray one or more entities (e.g., a product, location, business, etc.). To aid a user in identifying an entity and/or remembering the entity, entity information may be embedded into the content. The entity information may describe the entity and/or provide one or more actions that the user may take with regard to the entity (e.g., open a shopping application to view a hand bag entity). Personalized recommendations may be provided to a user based upon a user profile derived from exposure of the user to various entities (e.g., a vacation recommendation may be provided based upon vacation entities exposed to the user in a positive light).

Abstract: The disclosed methods, mechanisms, and system provide the ability to associate one or more disjointed models such that a second model can be accessed from a first model thereby allowing easier navigation between models. A graphical link to a second model is provided as part of a first model. Activating the graphical link opens the second model for viewing or editing. Links between additional models may also be provided. Thus, by using the provided graphical links, a user may quickly and easily navigate between all the associated models.

Abstract: A content management tool can assist publishers/authors in managing access rights and other parameters related to the display of documents online. The documents may include books and other documents that are traditionally published as printed works. The content management tool may display presentation parameters for the documents that relate to how the documents are to be shown to users when accessing the documents. The content management tool receives modifications to the presentation parameters and applies the modified versions of the presentation parameters to future accesses of the documents by users. The content management tool can, for example, be used to modify the portions of the document available for display, turn on/off certain portions of the document, manage links displayed concurrently with the document, and/or manage advertising related to the document.

Abstract: A system and method for loading and playing multimedia information are disclosed. A navigator sends a series of play orders that each play order demands for playing a corresponding multimedia segment. A playing engine demands a loader to provide the corresponding multimedia segment according to related play order. A decoder is used to decode the provided multimedia segment for playback. Each play order may be delivered even the multimedia segment corresponding to its previous play order has not been played completely yet. The information discontinuity disadvantage can be eliminated since there is a smooth multimedia information stream provided for the decoder.

Abstract: An approach is provided for a messaging interface between applications and a user. A plurality of messages associated respectively with a plurality of programs is stored in a common message database according to timing information corresponding to the messages. A subset of the messages is retrieved based on the timing information. The subset of messages is filtered based on message type. The filtered messages are output to a non-visual communication program for presentation of the filtered messages.

Abstract: A soundtrack creation method and user playback system for soundtracks synchronized to electronic text. Synchronization is achieved by maintaining a reading speed variable indicative of the user's reading speed. The system provides for multiple channels of audio to enable concurrent playback of two or more partially or entirely overlapping audio regions so as to create an audio output having, for example, sound effects, ambience, music or other audio features that are triggered to playback at specific portions in the electronic text to enhance the reading experience.

Abstract: An application program utilizes a decoding sub-system and a three-dimensional (3D) rendering sub-system to apply effects to a video in-place in a document. The program configures pixel shaders for use with a rendering device for applying pixel-level effects to the decoded frames of the video, generates meshes, and pre-renders textures for use in implementing effects. When a request is received to play back the video in-place in the document, a decoding surface and a rendering surface are allocated. The decoding sub-system decodes frames of the video and copies the decoded frames to the decoding surface on one thread. A separate thread copies decoded frames from the decoding surface to a texture and from the texture to the rendering surface. The rendering device utilizes the pixel shaders, meshes, pre-computed textures, and other data to render the frames of the video to a rendering target.

Abstract: In various embodiments of the present invention, documents (eg, PDFs) are converted into HTML 5 (and CSS 3) formats and integrated into existing HTML 5 web pages to preserve the original embedded fonts. The fonts can also be integrated or embedded (e.g., via the standard HTML “iframe” tag) into other web pages. The original appearance of the source document is maintained, the text is preserved as searchable text, and the document is integrated into a web page that can be searched, zoomed, scrolled, and printed utilizing standard web browser controls. A significantly increased “ad inventory” is thereby enabled, wherein advertisements can be integrated between pages, or even within a page. Moreover, the resulting document can be passively shared with members of a user's external social networks (including those within the host website), along with other activities and behaviors performed by the user on the hosting website.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for converting a document from a fixed-layout format (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF) into a non-fixed layout format (e.g., HTML) portable to different platforms (e.g., desktop computers, tablet computer, smart phones) operating different operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X) and different web browsers (e.g., Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla FireFox). In one stream, fonts are identified, extracted, and processed to enhance compatibility with the portable format. In another stream, textual content is extracted and processed to enhance compatibility and images are taken of non-textual content. These images are used as backgrounds in the output document, over which the textual content is rendered in the appropriate fonts, with sizing, spacing, positioning and/or other characteristics matching or closely approximating that of the original document.

Abstract: A system for and method of enhancing web page delivery and visitor tracking. The invention provides the ability to control redirection of Web traffic of humans. It can identify visitors to a Web page, track their movements, log critical information, and analyze the Web traffic in order to judge the success in driving quality traffic to some known goal on a Web site, such as a sale. The system tracks visitors via use of redirection with an image tag. The invention can also use unique image marker references to prevent browsers from accessing cached images.

The computer processor stores the video data in a first layer of a multimedia file, the audio data in a second layer of the multimedia file, and the specified audio/video data portions in additional layers of the multimedia file. Each of the first layer, the second layer, and the additional layers comprises a tag layer comprising the tags.

The typically followed manual process depends on the capabilities of a person to create such presentations. It is required to obtain as little information as possible to generate presentations as much automatically as possible. The automatic generation of presentations is based on (a) agenda; (b) audience profile; and (c) templates. The system analyzes an agenda and audience profile to obtain adequate information to identify the most appropriate templates and uses the same to generate one or more draft presentation versions that best match the requirements of the agenda. Further, the invention also provides for an automatic generation of (a) slide annotations; (b) presentation theme; and (c) templates.

Abstract: A system and method is described that permits synchronization of a transcript with an audio/video stream of a webcast. The system also permits a user to perform a search of the transcript and then to jump in the webcast audio/video stream to the point identified during the search.

Abstract: A method and system for creating guilloché base pattern with two-dimensional periodicity in a plurality of replicate patterns is shown wherein the creating can be assessed in real-time for pattern acceptability by a user. A base pattern is set on an imaging device in vector space relative to a set of predetermined pattern nodes. The base pattern is modulated via a user interface by adjusting positions of the pattern known for selectively controlling curve shapes of the pattern. A guilloché mark is illustrated by display on the imaging device of the adjusted base pattern and a compilation of associated replicate patterns for user assessment of the mark.

The service then uses this information, whether provided by the entity or the end user, as the basis for selection of various content segments which will make up a dynamic message for presentation to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for evaluating composition of a first file representing a document to be evaluated. An evaluation method transforms the first file to a second file. The second file includes a plurality of objects corresponding to the composition of the first file. The evaluation method also determines parameters based on the plurality of objects; evaluates the parameters based on a plurality of composition rules provided by a rule engine; generates evaluation findings and stores the evaluation findings; and generates an evaluation conclusion based on the evaluation findings. The evaluation conclusion indicates compliance of the document according to the composition rules.
