Abstract: A method and system for configuring a model of a process. A model of a process is provided, which follows a particular sequence. Such a model includes a plurality of component sub-models, wherein each component sub-model among the component sub-models includes one or more input variables and one or more output variables. Such a method and system also generally includes automatically assigning one or more output variables to one or more input variables based on information associated with the particular sequence of the process.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes a system for generating a presentation order from a document that has fixed presentation layout when rendered. Techniques include reconstructing structural information and logical ordering for fixed-layout documents. A document editor generates a presentation order, or a read order, for contents within a fixed-layout document. The document editor creates an initial sort order for areas of content within a document. The document editor then generates a presentation order based on graphical dimensions and graphical placement relationships among areas of content within a document. The resulting presentation order can be used to create a second document or second layout, or to add structural information to create reflowed or reflowable content.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for dynamically laying out images and associated text using pre-defined layouts. The pre-defined layouts are created and data defining the layouts is stored in a layout definition file. An application program provides a user interface for dynamically laying out the images and associated text using the contents of the layout definition file. The user interface includes a canvas onto which a user may place one or more images and a layout gallery through which a user may select a pre-defined layout to be applied to images placed on the canvas. The layout gallery includes selectable visual representations corresponding to each of the available pre-defined layouts. When one of the visual representations is selected, the corresponding pre-defined layout is dynamically applied to images on the canvas. The visual representations displayed in the layout gallery may also be utilized to generate a preview of the layout.

Abstract: Client-side modification of electronic documents by server-generated instructions in a client-server environment enables dynamic modification of formatting information in an electronic document to accommodate new data received from the server. A server generates machine instructions to send to a client along with new data for an electronic document. The generated instructions modify the electronic document at the client to accommodate the new data. The generated instructions may include at least one tag indicating a relative order in which the new data is to be imported into the electronic document and the instructions are to be performed.

A system can include a memory for storing computer executable instructions and a processing unit for accessing the memory and executing the computer executable instructions. The computer executable instructions can include an engine to generate a dynamic composition of the text blocks and visual blocks of the document, based on semantic features of the text blocks and the visual blocks, to provide the interactive media content.

Abstract: A service definition document (SDD) framework is provided for defining blended services that utilize multiple service endpoints. The SDD framework can comprise a first category that defines a service endpoint representing a blended service, a second category that defines a plurality of service endpoints utilized by the blended service, and a third category that defines execution of the blended service. Blended services can be provided by creating a model of a blended service and saving a representation of the model of the blended service in a service definition document (SDD) framework. A blended service defined in a SDD framework can be executed by receiving the SDD and executing the blended service as defined by the SDD using a service execution environment (SEE).

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for presenting reflow objects of content on an output medium. In some embodiments, the content to be presented may be determined by rendering one or more reflow objects of content to an image file, the image file having a horizontal dimension that approximates the horizontal dimension of the output medium and a vertical dimension that exceeds the vertical dimension of the output medium, and causing a portion of the image file to be presented on the output medium, wherein the portion of the image file presented corresponds to a view window logically superimposed upon the image file. A request for content that is not within the view window may be received, the location of the view window may be adjusted based on the request, and the adjustment may result in changing the portion of the image file presented on the display.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided that allows users to easily and rapidly search and locate parts of pages in an e-book that they have read, even though the form of pages has changed. Abstract: A fixed format document conversion engine and associated method for converting a fixed format document into a flow format document. The fixed format document conversion engine includes a sequence of layout analysis engines and semantic analysis engines to analyzes the base physical layout information obtained from the fixed format document to enrich, modify, and classify the physical layout information into progressively more advanced physical layout information and, ultimately, semantic layout information. The semantic layout information is mapped and serialized into a selected flow format document with a high level of flowability.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) includes a value-add application with a first set of XML content services, one or more dedicated XML processing servers with a second and other sets of XML content services, and a core CMS with a third set of XML content services. The content management system may be designed to provide XML content services at any of these three tiers of processing. A first threshold is defined that allows the value-add application to determine when to offload XML content services to a dedicated XML processing server. A second threshold is defined that allows the core CMS to determine when to offload XML content services to a dedicated XML processing server. Callback services are included that allow each tier of XML content services to send or receive additional information to complete the XML processing. The result is a content management system that is very powerful and flexible.

A method of generating a drawing file shared by a source application and a target application includes storing a copy of a computer aided design (CAD) drawing in a composite drawing file, where the CAD drawing is stored according to a drawing format used by the source application. The method also includes generating a visual representation of the CAD drawing, where the visual representation is formatted according to a drawing format used by the target application. The method also includes storing the visual representation in the composite drawing file, where a display of the visual representation generated by the target application is substantially similar to a display of the CAD drawing generated by the source application.

For example, the multi-purpose stylesheet may convert input XML content to HTML, PDF, PostScript, WML, or other output formats. The method may include creating or modifying a multipurpose stylesheet containing formatting rules corresponding to various properties of different output media formats. A user can configure the multi-purpose stylesheet by selecting different formatting properties for different output media formats.

In one aspect, a method includes receiving an identification of a subset of content items identified in a first electronic document. Each content item in the subset of content items includes displayable data. A prioritization of the subset of content items is identified, and a first content item is selected based on the prioritization. A new value of a first layout property for the selected content item is calculated based at least in part on one or more initial values. A new electronic document is generated. The new electronic document includes an identification of the new value and data for generating a second graphical representation of the subset of content items based at least in part on the new value.

Abstract: An image reader and an external terminal are connected to each other through a network. The image reader includes a reading unit, a reception section, a data conversion section, a transmission data generation section and a transmission section. The reading unit reads an image. The reception section receives terminal information from the external terminal. The data conversion section converts image data read by the reading unit into a predetermined data format based on the terminal information. The transmission data generation section adds additional information, which relates to processing of the converted image data, to the converted image data to generate transmission data. The transmission section transmits the transmission data to the external terminal.

Abstract: Metadata are provided to video generators using a syndication protocol, so that the video generators may produce interactive video content for television subscribers. Metadata relating to source media content are transformed in a computer process from a storage format into a syndication format. Relevant metadata to transform are chosen to reflect the type of interactivity desired by a television service provider and the demands of the video generation process. The transformed metadata are published according to a syndication protocol, so that another computer process that participates in the protocol may generate the interactive video content using the metadata, the source media content, and subscriber commands.

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for converting reports between disparate report formats are described herein. In one aspect, a first report in a markup data schema is received. On another aspect, a second report in a banded report schema, comprising one or more bands, is created. The second report is created as a blank report. First report formatting settings of the first report are converted to second report formatting setting of the second report. Report content and report content layout from the first report are converted to the second report.

An edition player is configured to receive a magazine edition, the magazine edition including a layout template for rendering edition content. The edition player is further configured to receive edition content subscribed to by the magazine edition, the edition content provided by a content source. The edition player then integrates the edition content within the magazine edition using the layout template to lay out the edition content based on a specification of the mobile device. The edition player then renders the edition content within the magazine edition.

Abstract: Methods and systems for efficient synchronization of magazine edition content on heterogeneous mobile devices are provided. Display screen information is obtained for a mobile device, including resolution and screen dimensions. Edition content changes for each magazine edition presented on the mobile device are determined based on the display screen information. Subscription information, edition summaries, edition design information and media library information specific to the edition content changes are each provided. When any of these portions of the edition content changes fails to synchronize, synchronization is continued with that portion that failed.

Abstract: A method for creating a web application adapted to run in a Silverlight® run time environment from an X/HTML source file. The visual elements of the X/HTML source are converted to a corresponding Silverlight® custom control with a comparable visual presentation. The X/HTML source file is first converted to XAML which is then combined with the Silverlight custom controls into a web application.

The spreadsheet has content with a format that would result in a first quantity of pages being printed. Further, a printable range for the spreadsheet is determined. In addition, an overlap analysis of the spreadsheet is performed to determine if any of the plurality of shapes in the spreadsheet overlap one another. Each print zone is isolated in the spreadsheet. The print zone includes a group of cells. Each print zone is transformed into a transformed print zone. Further, a green spreadsheet is generated, without falling below a predetermined readability threshold, based on each transformed print zone such that the green spreadsheet has a second quantity of pages that is less than the first quantity of pages.

The computer includes a converter to convert a document to a format displayable by the apparatus, a first watching unit to watch the communication channel for arrival of the apparatus, and a second watching unit to watch a user's activities on the computer. The apparatus includes a detector to detect a moment in time when the user starts to work with the apparatus, and a notification device configured to send a notification to the computer via the connector. The computer is configured to establish upon receipt of the notification a transfer of the converted document from the computer via the connector to the apparatus, and the apparatus is configured to show a converted document on the apparatus display.

The method can include selecting content in a retrieved page, retrieving an applied customization from a source separate from a source of the retrieved page, applying the applied customization to the selected content to modify a visual appearance of the selected content, and providing the selected content once modified for display in a content browser.

Abstract: A method for displaying text arranged into word clusters on an electronic display including the steps of providing a text, arranging the text into a plurality of word clusters, where a plurality of clusters includes at least two lines and each line includes at least two words, and where at least one word can be emphasized. The provided text has a plurality of paragraphs with a plurality of sentences arranged into clusters each limited to a thought group based on a word or a plurality of words linked by commonality having an end defined by a text element. Cluster size can be constrained by an estimate of reader apprehension span and/or a readability analysis of the provided text based on word complexity which can take into account reader comprehension. An automated program configured to identify thought groups using such linguistic criteria can be employed to carry out the method.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for identifying a record template within a file having reused objects. The method discloses: identifying, in the input file, a reused object and a set of pages upon which the reused object is located; computing a page distance between at least two adjacent instances of the reused object; generating an object recurrence pattern for the reused object; and reconstructing a record template, based on the object recurrence pattern, thereby identifying the records in the input file. The system discloses a processor, a profiler module, a pattern identification module, and a template reconstruction module for effecting the method.

Abstract: A document processing system for actively processing a document targeted for one system on another system. The system of processing a document having associated field definitions targeted for a system operating in a first encoding scheme in a text editor operating in a second encoding scheme includes determining if a change to the document in the second encoding scheme violates one of the field definitions associated with the document and providing an indication to the text editor when a field definition violation is determined. The processing functions include creating, inserting, editing, deleting and formatting. The document processing system can be used when editing RPG documents in a Unicode editor for ultimate processing by a non-Unicode system such as EBCDIC DBCS. The indications can include setting a flag, which can be used by the text editor to drive visual indicators of violations, deny changes and the like.

Abstract: A client and one or more information retrieval (IR) engines, such as a search engine, may be in communication with each other via a network. A computer may read index information associated with at least a portion of an audiovisual object, the index information structured to be used in an index database of a search engine system. The computer may obfuscate at least a portion of the index information so that the intelligibility of the contents of the index information is reduced, and may transmit at least some of the obfuscated index information to the search engine system.

A document having a first format may be constructed from a number of content elements maintained in a first database. The document may be transformed into a second format different from the first format. The transformed document may be published and provided to a user.

Abstract: Methods for efficiently publishing electronic versions of traditionally paper-based government forms and utilizing the electronic forms for web-based transactional services are disclosed. Standard paper-based government forms are automatically converted to XML format, including data fields for entry of information by customers. Multiple electronic forms are accessible to the customer at a single access point, such as a web site. At the web site, the customer selects a form for filing with any of a plurality of government agencies. When presented to the customer, the selected form is presented with some of its data fields being pre-populated according to information retrieved from a database and specific to that customer. The customer completes the form, and a back-end system integrated with the web site handles the completed form, determines the appropriate government agency for filing the form, and transmits it as a transaction to the determined government agency.

Abstract: The present embodiments provide methods, apparatuses, and systems for use in maintaining data quality upon conversion to a different data format. Some embodiments provide methods that receive media data in a first format, initiate a first conversion of the media data at the first format to a second converted format, identify parameters dictating the conversion to the second converted format, record the parameters, and distribute the recorded parameters to remote systems such that the parameters at least in part control the remote systems during a conversion of the media data to the second converted format.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and system to automatically associate page elements, and convert and transform between disparate data and device format types. This allows for the ability to transform a single data source into multiple output composites suitable for deployment in disparate media outlets and on disparate output devices. Such automatic generation of disparate composites allows for the ability to take content written once in any given format and have said content automatically regenerated for any desired output outlet. The present disclosure further provides the ability to create and edit templates and data, and save edited changes affecting a single or a collection of templates. The invention teaches how to create associations from a piece of data and any of its page elements. Such associations facilitate the automatic transformation of the data into various output formats.

Abstract: Automated comparison of Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) documents for revision mark-up includes reading document data from first and second DITA documents into respective document object model trees of nodes, and identifying and collapsing emphasis subtree nodes in the trees into their parent nodes, the collapsing caching emphasis data from the identified subtree nodes. A preorder traversal transforms the model trees into respective pre-order node lists and captures adjacent sibling emphasis subtree nodes as single text nodes. The node lists are merged into a merged node list via a longest common subsequence process that recognizes matches node pairs having primary sort key information and document structure metadata meeting a match threshold, with differences between matching tokens of the node pairs saved. A merged document object model built from the refined merged node list is transformed into a hypertext mark-up language document.
