Abstract: A single place where all of us can meet on an equal basis 24/7 from anywhere we can reach to, and communicate back from, in the universe is now being built. The present invention is an interface for universal information exchange over a public data network (e.g., Internet). Explicit agreements to Rules of Response are used to cause its users to identify all possible questions and disagreements expressed with symbols through the interface. The result is a universal information exchange that can be used by all as a common meeting point from anywhere to exchange and verify information, answer questions, resolve disagreements, and exchange any combination of goods and services.

Abstract: A feature of a computing device application may be selected by user or other input and then demonstrated using a demonstration application. The demonstration application may select simulated user inputs from a script or other source that, when input to the computing device application, drive it to demonstrate the selected feature. The demonstration application may then begin to input the one or more simulated user inputs to the computing device application. Before all of the simulated user inputs have been input, the demonstration application may determine that the user has interrupted the demonstration. In response to the determination, the demonstration application may cease inputting the simulated inputs, leaving the computing device application in the state it was in at the time of interruption, thereby enabling the user to explore the application or feature of the application being demonstrated at a time and in a manner of the user's choosing.

Abstract: A system for implementing a content-centered chat room operates to display messages received from one or more invitees of a subscriber on the subscriber's TV as program content is displayed on the subscriber's TV. The subscriber and the invitees all watch television, either a common TV program or different TV programs. Participants may be located in the same or in several different locations, and if the invitee-participants are also subscribers, the chat room may also appear on their TV screens. A subscriber invites friends to participate in the chat session for a specific TV program using the set top box (STB) of his television to send invitations, and a dedicated subscriber server coordinates notification of the invitees and directs their message-comments to a chat session displayed with the program content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for processing an instant message from a source wireless communication device to a destination device are described herein. In one aspect of the invention, an exemplary method includes receiving the instant message from the source wireless communication device, the instant message having a source wireless communication identifier, a destination instant messenger identifier, and data contents; extracting the source wireless communication identifier, the destination instant messenger identifier and the data contents from the instant message; retrieving a source instant messenger identifier corresponding to the source wireless communication identifier; binding the source instant messenger identifier with the source wireless communication identifier; and transmitting the data contents with the source instant messenger identifier to the destination device over a communication network, based on the destination instant messenger identifier. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.

Abstract: The present invention, a method for a customizing and determining how a multimedia character or avatar is animated. The method provides a user with interaction with the avatar that involves animation of the face of the multimedia character. In addition, the method further comprises offering the multimedia character or avatar with a default setting for a mechanism of muscle movement and interacting with the mechanism of muscle movement. Further, the method is preferably used in a stand-alone mode and with multimedia communication, such as Internet, email and wireless applications. Furthermore, the method comprises a set rules and intelligent systems for analyzing, displaying and capturing messages and alerting the user to these messages in real time.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal having a camera module and a touch screen is provided. The mobile communication terminal transmits and receives text data while performing the video call with at least one other party's terminal. The touch screen displays at least one images when the text data transmission and reception function is started, an input window for displaying text data input through the touch screen, an output window for displaying the transmitted and received text data, and at least one soft key, and a controller for controlling, when the input window or one of the at least one soft key is selected, the touch screen for changing a display method of at least one of the first image, the second image, the input window, the output window, and the at least one soft key and for displaying a touch pad comprising a plurality of keys for inputting text data.

Abstract: A collaborative communication system is disclosed. The collaborative communication system integrates a number of electronic communication tools to meet the collaborative communication needs for an enterprise, family members or friends. The collaborative communication system allows a group of users to participate in communications including chatting and accessing files among the specified users. When a users uploads a file to a file store, each of the users gets notified of the availability of the file for accessing, wherein the file is not sent to any of client machines respectively used by the users, and is downloaded to a client machine when one of the specified users associated with the client machine accesses the file in the file store, thus avoiding to distribute copies of the file to each of the users regardless they need it or not.

Abstract: A representational editing system for WYSIWYG editing of editable web pages with embedded content elements. The representational editing system presents embedded content elements in an editable manner that represents their actual appearance on the web page. Typically, the representational editing system displays an image in place of the embedded content. The representational editing system enables users to modify editable attributes of embedded content in a WYSIWYG editing environment.

Abstract: According to the present invention, even while a chat opening process is in progress, users can join chats by means of a simple procedure from a video game machine. Once a chat has been opened, an invitation signal can further be transmitted to other chat guests. A video game machine of an expected guest receiving the invitation signal displays a screen prompting the guest to enter the chat room, and the expected guest can join the chat by transmitting an enter room signal to a database. At this time, a chat answer signal indicating that the expected guest accepts the invitation from a chairman is transmitted from the expected guest to the chairman.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for displaying an instant message on a terminal. The method comprises: receiving a message sent from a message server; determining a location of the received message on a timeline indicating a way of displaying a list of messages in chronological order based on a message length of the received message; determining a display offset of the terminal based on the determined location of the received message on the timeline; and displaying the received message based on the display offset of the terminal. When the terminal acquires a new message sent by the message server, the message displayed on the screen is the same as the message displayed on the display screen before the terminal acquires message sent by the instant message server, thus avoiding changing the location of displayed message on the display screen when the terminal receives the new message.

Abstract: A method and article of manufacture are provided for communicating confidential information during an electronic chat session. The chat session has a plurality of participants, including human users and associated software controlled agents. The software controlled agents have artificial intelligence. A first human user requests a first software controlled agent associated with the first human user to request information from a second software controlled agent associated with a second human user. The second agent receives authorization to release the requested information. The second agent transmits the requested information, wherein the transmitted information is not revealed to the human users.

Abstract: A first user's avatar in a virtual world environment may be controlled by using a virtual world application enabling access to a virtual world environment within which the first user has an avatar associated with the first user. A virtual world location corresponding to the first avatar is identified. At least one second avatar proximate to the virtual world location is identified. Filtering information is accessed. Profile information related to the second avatar is accessed. Filtering information is compared to the accessed profile information. Based on the comparison results, a metric related to the second avatar is determined. The metric is related to a threshold. It is determined whether relating the metric to the threshold supports enabling communications between the first and second avatars, and if so, communications to be exchanged between the first and second avatars are enabled.

Abstract: Methods for simulating icon popout on memory constrained devices are described. In some embodiments, the client device displays a message status icon where the message status icon represents a first message status of the respective message. In response to a user action, the status of the respective action changes and the visual appearance of the message status icon varies such that the displayed message status icon represents a second message status of the respective message, to identify a status change of the respective message. The message status icon comprises a fixed image having a display background with at least one property that can be varied to achieve the changes in the visual appearance of the message status icon. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing IM conversations is provided. In response to idle time and, preferably, read message status, particular current conversations are removed from a list of current conversations. The removed conversations may be moved to an archive which may be automatically maintained in response to size constraints. An archive interface is facilitated to review conversations, save all or portions thereof, delete, etc. The archived conversations are preferably associated with the contact for the conversation to show a history of conversations.

Abstract: A method includes associating a user-defined shortcut command with at least two different user-drafted status responses. In response to a user receiving a first instant message from a first sender at an inopportune time and the user then inputting the user-defined shortcut command, the method includes automatically transmitting a first user-draft status response to the first sender of the first instant message that was received at the inopportune time. In response to the user receiving a second message from a second sender at the inopportune time and the user then inputting the user-defined shortcut command, the method includes automatically transmitting a second user-draft status response to the second sender of the instant message that was received at the inopportune time. A relationship between the first sender and the user is different than a relationship between the second sender and the user.

Abstract: A machine-implemented social networking system includes a hierarchy tree containing topic nodes. New nodes are added as new topics emerge in online public forums. Each topic node can link to an on-topic real time chat room whose occupants are currently discussing the topic of the node. A node-seeking automated process operates in the background and seeks out nodes that currently have topics appearing to be the same as or similar to what topics the user appears to have in mind. Content browsing experience of the user is enhanced by addition of an invitations displaying subsystem that automatically invites him or her to co-compatible chat rooms currently discussing the topic(s) the user appears to have in mind.

In one instance, the federated messenger application includes both client-based and server-based components, and on the client-side may be resident as a browser extension or similar application.

Abstract: A solution for notifying a user of alternate means of accessing voicemail data utilize a timer that can be set on a user device upon receipt of a message waiting indicator. When the timer expires, if no data communications connection has been established between the user device and a voicemail server, the user device can present alternate voicemail access instructions to the user. These instructions may be obtained from the message waiting indicator or may be stored on the user device. In another embodiment, a voicemail server sets a timer after sending a message waiting indicator to a user device. The voicemail server sends a message containing alternate voicemail access instructions if no connection has been established between the voicemail server and the user device upon expiration of the timer.

Abstract: Blog advertisement selection and placement is driven by the analysis of different facets, which are defined as why-facet, how-facet, who-facet and what-facet. The objective of defining such facets and their labels is to be able to better classify and distinguish information from blogs with the goal to use these different facets to better target advertisements on blogs. A model of features is built and maintained that classifies information from blogs along the defined facets. The features, including non-keywords and keywords, are extracted from a set of blogs of at least one blogosphere. Non-keywords are related to the blog information and keywords, and assist the keywords in the classification of the different facets/labels. An advertising campaign is defined in terms of the defined facets. The model and the defined advertising campaign will then be able to determine and/or predict placement of an advertisement in a blog or blog page.

In one embodiment, the user of an avatar observing a conversation between other avatars may be presented with an abstracted version of the conversation. The abstraction may be performed so as to enable the user to determine the general topic or nature of the conversation, without receiving sensitive or detailed information included in the conversation. In one embodiment, the abstraction is performed by substituting words of the conversation with fewer words, or words having a more general meaning. The degree of abstraction performed may be based on a level of trust between the observer and the users engaged in conversation.

Abstract: A method and system for establishing a chat session between users in a network system. A request is received, from a first user at a first browser, to enter a chat session with a second user at a second browser. A request for information from a server specified by the second user is received asynchronously from the second user at the second browser, wherein the second browser has not received notice of the request from the first user to enter the chat session. The server is accessed to receive the information. The received information is modified by addition to the received information of a chat user interface to open a browser window at the second browser. Content of the browser window causes a chat applet instance to be downloaded for execution at the second browser to instantiate the chat session between the first user and the second user.

Abstract: An image generating system for simultaneous visual representative display of multiple computer users is disclosed. The method and apparatus includes hardware, software, and a system for generating various images for one or more users of a connected computer system, and imposing them onto the systems and ultimately the visual display of each user's system. The images, which may be known as avatars, may be static images, animated 2D, and/or animated 3D images. The images are simultaneously displayed on the outputs of each user. Each user may react and interact with the images of the other users through their own image.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method is provided herein for optimization of social media campaigns. A hosted platform collects and stores online visitor traffic data from social media platforms and from storefronts on client platforms which are linked to social media campaigns operating on the social media platforms. The supplemental information is presented in one embodiment in the form of a matching media object (MMO) and can be easily shared between users of the system, either concurrently or on a time delayed basis (i.e. the next time a user logs onto the system). The system provides a communications tool that facilitates chats, blogs, discussions, or any type of social media for a plurality of users. Conversations on the tool are parsed to determine an area of interest to the users and appropriate MMOs are provided based on that context.

Abstract: Electronic communication systems can be enhanced to allow a sender to indicate a topic and request an amount time for a conversation. The topic and time requested can be displayed to a recipient along with the sender's identification so that the recipient can choose to accept or reject the conversation. If the conversation is accepted, the topic and an amount of time remaining can be displayed to both the sender and the recipient. In addition, the sender and the recipient can be reminded of the topic if the discussions are off-topic.

Abstract: Methods and systems for associating a standardized electronic icon with a user and displaying the icon with electronic communications of the user are disclosed. A computer implemented method includes: determining one or more icons to associate with an individual when the individual creates an electronic message; and at least one of selectively and automatically appending at least one of the one or more icons that are associated with the individual to the electronic message. The at least one of the one or more icons is subsequently displayed with the electronic message to a recipient to provide information about the individual to the recipient.

Abstract: Previously conducted conversations in real-time collaboration messages are persistently stored, either by client or a server, and then are associated with conversational items presented to a user (e.g. contact names, topics, etc.). An icon is provided near each listed item, which when selected, displays to the user summaries or titles of all transcripts to which the selected item pertains or relates. The user may select one or more summaries or titles for which the conversation is to be resumed, causing the system to retrieve the stored transcript and resume appending new conversational entries to it, so that the user recovers conversational context effortlessly and accurately. Enhanced versions of the invention include sharing of transcripts so that all participants receive the context of the conversation, and server-side or client-side implementations.

Abstract: A system and method for communication in an online electronic chat environment having multiple communication devices connected to each other in a communication network is provided. The chat region and the graphics region are positioned on a common electronic canvas of the display screen. Text from the chat region can be moved to the graphics region, and graphic objects in the graphics region may be moved to the chat region. The design allows for the mixing of chat and graphics in a common window when material is moved between the two modalities. In additional embodiments, the text in the chat region and the graphics in the graphics region are synchronized whereby movement of one causes action in the other.
