Virtual Input Device (e.g., Virtual Keyboard) Patents (Class 715/773)
  • Patent number: 8799803
Abstract: There are provided methods and systems related to having an input device configured according to a position of a user's hand relative to the input device. In particular, in some embodiments, a method of operating a computing system is provided that includes determining an operational context of the computing system utilizing a processor of the system and configuring an input device for the system based on the operational context. The input device includes a plurality of discrete input members. The method also includes displaying a virtual image representative of the input device on a display of the system. A position of a user's digits relative to the input device is sensed and the input device is reconfigured based on the sensed position of the user's digits. An image of the user's digits overlaying the virtual image representative of the input device is provided on a display of the computing system.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and controlling method thereof are disclosed, by which a handwriting input is enabled and by which a handwritten character saved as an image can be further utilized. According to the present invention, when a user directly inputs a character by handwriting, a text corresponding to each handwritten character is saved by being linked to the handwritten character. The user is facilitated to correctly search handwritten characters saved as image for a specific word or the like using the saved confirmed text. By mapping the handwritten character saved as the image correctly using the saved confirmed text, the handwritten character is modifiable or utilizable in various ways. Therefore, a handwritten character saved as an image in a mobile terminal can be further utilized.

Abstract: System and method for improving data input by using word frequency to text predict input. Other systems and methods include analyzing words already contained in a document (e.g. spell checking and OCR) and using word frequency to create a proxy system to reduce the space required to store data, allowing for more efficient usage of storage and enhancing the embedded content of matrix codes. The system displays the most common words in a language based upon the previously entered or displayed word(s), or the previously entered or displayed character or characters. Words with the most common frequency of use with the prior word(s) are displayed in a table to enable the user to quickly select one of the displayed words for rapid data entry. The input device can be a touch-sensitive display or non-touch sensitive type device.

Abstract: Techniques for preventing typographical errors on digital soft keyboards are implemented by a computing device with a touch-screen display. According to one technique, a plurality of soft keys of a soft keyboard is displayed on the touch-screen display. Each soft key covers an area of the touch-screen display. One or more occurrences of a particular typographical error in which a user erroneously selects an adjacent soft key in addition to or instead of an intended soft key are detected. In response, an activation region of the intended soft key is changed to decrease the probability of the user making the same typographical error in the future.

Abstract: A plurality of characters that are candidates for entry are displayed on a display surface of a display corresponding to an operation surface of a touch panel as character buttons. A touch detector judges whether a user touches the operation surface either with a single point or plural points, and detects a position touched by the user. An input receiver receives an entry of a character associated with a character button in the position touched by the user among the plurality of characters displayed on the display surface of the display. Then, the input receiver receives the entry of the character which varies in type depending on whether the user touches an area in the operation surface corresponding to an identical character button with a single point or plural points.
