Publication number: 20100211910Abstract: Manipulation of elements in a graphical user interface is aided by allowing the graphical user interface to treat certain mouse button actuation and releases as holding the mouse button in an actuated state. When predetermined conditions are satisfied, the graphical user interface will treat a mouse button actuation and release as if the mouse button were held in an actuated state. A user can then manipulate elements in the graphical user interface as if the user held the mouse button in an actuated state. The types of manipulation can include the moving of a window, the resizing of a window, moving an icon, and the scrolling through the visible portion of a window.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2010Publication date: August 19, 2010Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventor: Eric Schlegel

Publication number: 20100185983Abstract: The presently disclosed technology provides curved slider GUIs with user interface sensitivity independent from a distance between a cursor and a radial center of the curved slider on a display. An area of operation is defined by an area between parallel bounds oriented equidistant from a radial center of a curved slider and extending from the outermost limits of the curved slider in both directions. Because of the geometry of the area of operation, a distance required to operate an entire range of the curved slider is independent from a distance between the cursor and the radial center of the curved slider. Since a distance that the cursor moves on the display often directly corresponds to movement of a physical input device, the presently disclosed technology results in a more intuitive operation of curved slider because the physical input motions more directly correlate to movements of the curved slider.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2009Publication date: July 22, 2010Applicant: Corel CorporationInventors: Steven Mark Szoczei, Pascal Bécheiraz

Patent number: 7761801Abstract: A mobile terminal providing a graphic user interface and method of providing a graphic user interface are disclosed. In one embodiment a mobile terminal may comprise a control unit, a touch screen display unit coupled to the control unit, and a memory storing instructions to be executed by the control unit. In one embodiment a method may comprise displaying and then moving one or more icons around the screen of the mobile terminal, detecting a designation of a point on the screen, and executing a predefined action based on a distance from a location of the designated point to a location of at least one of the icons. Another embodiment may detect an application related event, display an indicator icon, and execute a predefined action in response to the event detection.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2006Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventor: Yeon Woo Park

Patent number: 7761807Abstract: A portable electronic device includes a rendering circuit to visualize large format data files on a narrow display. The large format data files are rendered using either a desktop display mode or a mobile display mode. The desktop display mode renders the data file using data file-specified dimensions and resolutions. The data file is viewable in its entirety by automatic scrolling achieved by moving a cursor near the edge of the display. Data file elements may be edited while in desktop display mode. The mobile display mode renders the elements of the data file as a list with minimal regard for spatial orientation. Navigation in mobile display mode is field-to-field.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2007Date of Patent: July 20, 2010Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventor: David Tapuska

Publication number: 20100176963Abstract: A system and method for adjusting a notification setting of a handheld electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving a request to adjust a notification setting which causes the electronic device to display a notification module on a display of the electronic device. The notification module includes a plurality of control portions each corresponding to a notification setting which can be adjusted within the corresponding control portion. The method further includes detecting a selection proximate to a control portion and inputting a notification setting change based upon a selection executed within one of the control portions. The notification setting is adjusted in response to the notification setting change.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2009Publication date: July 15, 2010Inventor: Leonid Vymenets
