  • Patent number: 11819900
Abstract: An incremental forming tool of the present invention includes a holding portion attached to an incremental forming apparatus and a free curved surface part for pressing a metal plate. The free curved surface part is made of at least a hard metal base material and a surface of the free curved surface part is covered with a hard film. The surface of the hard film has an Rpk of 0.15 ?m or less, the Rpk is defined by JIS B 0671 and is calculated from a material ratio curve of a roughness curve, and has an Ra of 0.2 ?m or less, the Ra is defined by JIS B 0601 and is calculated from a roughness curve. Therefore, a molded product having a smooth worked surface with no roughness can be produced without adding any extra equipment for preventing adhesion.

Abstract: Flanges formed on sheet metal parts to increase the part stiffness or create mating surface for further assembly are created in an incremental sheet forming process using forming tool and supporting tool that move along a specified tool path so as to gradually deform a peripherally-clamped sheet metal work piece into the desired geometry. With two universal tools moving along the designed toolpath on the both sides of the part, the process is very flexible. Process time is can also be reduced by utilizing an accumulative double-sided incremental hole-flanging strategy, in which the flange is formed in only one step.

Abstract: A radial dimension of a pipe is changed by applying contiguous pipe contacting surfaces of adjacent cam rollers. Pipe contacting surfaces uniformly vary in width of curvatures as distances change between a center of rotation of the cam rollers and the pipe contacting surfaces side walls of the cam rollers are shaped and adjacent. Bevel gear teeth on sloped side walls force all rollers to turn uniformly. Cylinders on a frame surrounding the pipe drive pistons, lever arms and cam rollers that move the pipe wall. Radial forces on the cam rollers hold sloped side walls adjacent, bevel gears engaged and pipe contacting surfaces contiguous. Smoothly deforming a pipe wall inward forms a nozzle sat an end, a restrictor, a pipe closure, a solid rod or a pipe joint. In a joint, outer and inner pipe walls are moved inward respectively beyond and within elastic limits, ensuring tightness.

When incremental forming is completed, the tool on the spindle is replaced with a straightening tool 200, and hot air is blown out from the straightening tool 200 to anneal the edge lines 20a and 20b of the form portion 20 and to eliminate process strain.

Abstract: A method for cold forming splined transmission hubs is provided. A blank (10) with an inner surface and an outer surface is secured on a tool insert support member (100). The tool insert support member (100) has an internal spline tooth profile (110) machined into it. A forming roller (120) is inserted inside the blank and then moves radially under pressure until it contacts an inner surface of the blank. A set of teeth (111) are created on the outer surface of the blank (10) and the blank (10) is rotated relative to the forming roller (120) to form an oil reservoir on the inner surface of the blank.

  • Patent number: 6850813
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a wobble die (9) for shaping the internal contour or the external contour of a workpiece (4) in a wobble process. Thereby a wobble movement is initially selected. The three-dimensional geometry of the workpiece (4) is described. From the three-dimensional geometry of the workpiece (4) there is prescribed a virtual die (5), the shape of which corresponds in substance to the negative geometry of the workpiece (4). The virtual die (5) is deformed, taking into account the parameters of the selected wobble movement, to a geometry describing the wobble die (9). Finally, a wobble die (9) is produced on the basis of the geometry obtained in the preceding step.

  • Patent number: 6748780
Abstract: The present invention is a method for forming sheet material into contoured parts. The invention method includes these steps: A die is fashioned having an outside surface corresponding to the inside surface of the desired part. A plastically deformable sheet of material is clamped to the die so that the material is tangent to the die at a tangent area. A forming path is defined that follows the part's outside surface definition beginning at a point adjacent to the tangent area and tracing around the tangent area in circuits that incrementally offset away from the tangent area until all of the outside surface of the part is traced. A forming tool is then moved along the forming path so that the end of the forming tool presses the sheet material against the die thereby gradually forming the sheet material against the die to produce a finished formed part.
