Abstract: In a rolling and cutting method for an endless hot-rolled steel strip comprising continuous hot rolling and joining rough-rolled slabs to each other with a joint having a boundary between slabs, subjecting the joined rough-rolled strip continuously to hot finish rolling to obtain an endless hot-rolled steel strip with a joint having a boundary between strips, cutting the endless hot-rolled steel strip immediately before coiling, and coiling each cut strip into a coil, the endless hot-rolled steel strip being cut such that the boundary between two successive slabs or sheets is positioned on the radially outermost face of the coil; the target cut point is set relative to the boundary by applying the tracking error of the boundary and the cutting control error for ensuring that the target cut point is accurately positioned on the radially outermost surface of the coil; the strip is kept from breaking at the boundary when coiled, and the coil as a final product can be produced with minimum scrap.

Abstract: A system for controlling a thickness of a strip being rolled by a rolling mill having more than two rolling stands, in tandem configuration. A subcontrol unit controls a rolling speed and a rolling load of a final rolling stand according to a predetermined control schedule. A plurality of tension gauge units installed between adjacent rolling stands detect a tension of the strip. A plurality of thickness gauge units including at least first thickness gauge unit installed on the output side of a first rolling stand, second thickness gauge unit installed on the output side of a penultimate rolling stand, and final thickness gauge unit installed on the output side of the final rolling stand, detect a deviation in the thickness of the strip from a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5165267
Abstract: A plurality of rolls are supported and freely shiftable on a rotating supporting shaft. The rolls have a V-groove with a circular arc at the bottom of the groove. The plurality of rolls are arranged on a swivel table so that the rotating supporting shaft corresponds to the radial direction of the swivel table. A component of force acting on the roll in the direction of the supporting shaft is alleviated by a shift of each roll in the direction of the supporting shaft. This is accomplished by rotating the swivel table with the bottom of a metal sheet tapered cylinder pushed down against the V-groove. Thus, curling on the lower end of the cylinder is accomplished without generating a bulge in the neighborhood of the lower end of the cylinder and without preforming.

Abstract: A flaring tool and flaring apparatus for cylindrically flaring the ends of tubes. The flaring tool is provided in the vicinity of one end thereof with flaring elements that are fixedly connected thereto and have an at least approximately spherical shape. The flaring elements are essentially in point-type contact with the tube and generate high specific deformation forces during flaring. When the flaring tool is rotated about its axis, the tube end is continuously flared. The flaring apparatus has an adapter that can be shifted via a thread connection. The adapter fixedly accommodates the flaring tool, and can be connected to a drive unit.

Abstract: A tube expanding and flaring tool comprising a rotatable cage which has a nose guide, size to be received in a tube end that is to be expanded and flared. The cage has a tail shaft by which the cage is to be rotated. There is at least one roller carried by the cage which extends partially through the cage for rolling engagement with the interior surface of the tube. There is a nose surface on the roller with a portion thereof tapering from a first diameter to a second relatively larger diameter. Also there is a truncated conical tail surface on the roller expanding at a predetermined angle form the second diameter to a third relatively large diameter. Further there is means for supporting the at least one roller in rolling engagement with the interior surface of the tube end with sufficient force to expand the tube to a diameter relatively larger than its original diameter and to flare the tube end at the predetermined angle of the truncated conical tail surface of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4539832
Abstract: A hole sizing tool uses a swaging tap to move material which deforms the sides of a generally cylindrical hole toward the axis of the cylinder and is followed by a portion of the tool having a generally flat flaced helical spiral configuration with the turns increasing in radius as the tool advances but with all portions of the surface of the helical spiral including lines parallel to the axis of the tool whereby only radial forces are exerted by said portion to force the sides of the hole gradually toward a final diameter larger than that left by the tap but smaller than the original dimension. In an alternate form of the tool the flat surfaces of the helical spiral are inclined slightly, so that the edge of such surface nearest the nose of the tap is at a slightly greater radius than the edge of the turn nearest the tool in which the tap is held, to generate a slight axial force tending to pull the tool into the work.

The volume of the workpiece material, expelled in forming the helical groove, correspondsto the volume of the closed helical cavity inside the thread being obtained.A thread-forming tool for carrying out the method comprises a shank and an operating piece which consists of a groove-forming portion and a thread-forming portion arranged in series along one axis and having the same pitch of projections of their thread. The groove-forming portion and the thread-forming portion are displaced relative to each other in the axial direction at least by half the pitch, the major diameter of the groove-forming portion exceeding the major diameter of the thread-forming portion.
