The concave die is provided at a side of the pusher and includes a mold cavity and a plurality of heating holes. The filler block is provided in the mold cavity. The heating rods are provided in the heating holes connected to the heating device. The filler block includes a tapered portion provided at one end of the filler block and a diameter-reduced portion. The tapered portion is threadedly connected to the diameter-reduced portion. An ejector pin is provided at one end of the diameter-reduced portion.

    Abstract: A method for draw forming a desired contour to the outer diameter of a tubular work piece provides that the selected work piece have a wall thickness uniform throughout its length. The outer diameter of selected work piece is reduced along essentially only a part of the starting metal blank by drawing the metal blank only partly through a die or only partly through each one of a succession of dies. The resulting drawn reduced diameter will have essentially the same wall thickness as the starting blank. If a thinner wall thickness is desired on the reduced outside diameter, an internal mandrel can be inserted in the starting tube, which will work with the draw die to decrease the resulting wall thickness of the drawn tube to an amount less than the starting tube. The workpiece recovered after the drawing method is useful for producing an automotive fuel tank filler tube or an automotive instrument panel support beam.

The extent of product taper is determined by the pull rate applied to the feedstock in conjunction with the rotational rate of the dies, which can be varied continuously.

    Abstract: Multiple gauge metal strip is prepared by a process which comprises first shaving said strip by a process comprising drawing said strip through a shaving apparatus adjusted to achieve maximum stock removal in relation to the yield strength of said strip whereby said yield strength is not exceeded whereby surface reduction is confined to an area comprising 5 to 50% of total surface area and volume reduction ranges from 10 to 60% of initial strip cross sectional area, and drawing the strip through a die which defines the desired final cross sectional configuration to produce a reduction of said strip to final dimension, wherein said drawing is performed without direct surface-to-surface contact between said strip and said die.
