Abstract: A controller performs a first process of scanning a cylindrical irradiation region including a focused spot of laser light emitted from a laser light emitter to machine a flank face side of a workpiece to manufacture a cutting tool having a plurality of cutting edges arranged in line. In the first process, the controller scans the cylindrical irradiation region along a scanning path that has periodicity and changes a machining depth to form the plurality of cutting edges. The controller further performs a second process of scanning the cylindrical irradiation region including the focused spot of the laser light emitted in a direction different from an irradiation direction of the laser light in the first process to machine a rake face side of the workpiece.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of expanding a vehicle for extracting a person trapped therein by providing a multi-part structural bar with a plurality of receiving points, securing the structural bar to the vehicle such as by placing against the back seat of an interior of a vehicle or by chaining to structural elements of the vehicle. One end of an expansion ram is then set into one of the receiving points of the multi-part structural bar with the other end of the ram set into a point in the vehicle to be expanded, or against a structural plate placed in a vehicle. The ram is then activated or expanded, thus resulting in an expansion of the interior of the vehicle to permit a person trapped therein to be extracted.

  • Patent number: 8528379
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying tension to flexible items, including wire, barbed wire, cable, or rope, are described herein. A stationary clamping member is fixedly attached to a first end of a guide bar, extending outwardly therefrom, while a non-stationary clamping member is movably mounted to and extending outward from the guide bar substantially parallel to the stationary clamping member. The free end of a first flexible item is secured in the stationary clamping member, while the free end of a second flexible item is secured in the non-stationary clamping member. A tensioning assembly, such as a ratchet-like assembly engaging notches in the guide bar, is used to move the non-stationary clamping member away from the stationary clamping member, thereby tensioning one or both flexible items. Once the flexible items have been tensioned, they can be twisted together to form a connection without losing tension.

  • Patent number: 4450708
Abstract: An adjustable flexible form for shaping electrical windings is attached between two end supports. The flexible form can be arched by moving the end supports closest to one another. A twist can be imparted into the arched flexible form by rotation of one or both end supports. Intermediate supports can be adjusted against the form to provide rigidity. Both the selected arch and twist of the form are imparted into an object pulled down and across the form.

  • Patent number: 4320648
Abstract: A method, and an apparatus for carrying out that method, for making roofing from a stretchable and deformable sheet material. The roofing sections are made from sheet material which has a preformed laterally sinu-soidal configuration which is reconfigured with longitudinally spaced steps (or folds). The finished sheet is a roofing section having the configuration of stepped tile roofing which is a substitute for true roofing tile. The sinu-soidal sheet is clamped (or pressed) in a tool between two adjacent pairs of complimentary shape clamping jaws. In that tool apparatus the two pairs of clamps are then moved relative to each in parallel paths normal to longitudinal and lateral planes through the sheet, which movement stretches the sheet to form a step (or fold) between the portions held in the two sets of clamps.
