Abstract: A method of making the opening in aerosol can tops in two operations on a transfer press. One operation produces a score line on the upper radius of the pre-drawn cylindrical portion which compresses the material and permits a clean and burr-free separation. In the following station the disc is pulled radially towards the center, formed into a cup and ejected downwards. The fact that the material is being compressed in the scoring operation, that the edge thickness is equal to the original material thickness and that the edge of the opening is clean, smooth and free of burrs, permits the subsequent formation of the curl without the risk of splitting when using harder and less expensive material.
Abstract: A device for reducing the cross-sectional area of a capillary tube to effect its closure in a preselected region thereof. The device has a pair of means movable with respect to each other for crimping and severing the tube. First means is provided for moving the crimping and severing means pair along first and second generally orthogonal paths so as to effect alignment of the crimping and severing means pair with the capillary tube disposed therebetween, and second means is provided for moving the crimping and severing means pair along third and forth generally orthogonal paths to effect the reduction of the cross-sectional area of the tube and the severence thereof, respectively.
Abstract: Method of forming profiled reed blades by stamping from a metal strip, in which method the reed blades are processed while the ends thereof are still a part of the metal strip, with a final stamping out of the ends to complete the formation of the reed blades.

Abstract: A die and cooperating parts for forging and trepanning large diameter couplings and a method of forging and trepanning such couplings. A single die is used with a series of cooperating inserts and a riser in performing all the various steps necessary to forge and trepan the coupling. The same die and riser with appropriate inserts also can be used in forging and trepanning couplings of a range of sizes.
Abstract: An apparatus for shearing an elongated metal workpiece by applying a generally radial compressive load to the workpiece generally circumferentially thereof, and shearing the workpiece adjacent the compressive load applying means along a plane generally perpendicular to the lengthwise axis of the workpiece.
Abstract: A method for automatically controlling the operation of a rod-working apparatus of the type including a rod-feeding unit which feeds towards a cyclically operating work tool a certain length of rod per work cycle of the tool. There are selected a minimum and a maximum distance through which a rod to be fed towards the work tool is to be permitted to advance per work cycle of the tool. A rod is fed towards and into the range of operation of the tool. The actual distance advanced by the rod during a work cycle of the tool is determined. It is also determined whether the actual distance of advancement falls within the range defined between the preselected minimum and maximum distances. When the actual distance falls outside such range, operation of the rod-feeding unit is terminated.

Abstract: A method of making a slide fastener coupling element from a blank metal web having a longitudinally extending central portion and a pair of transversely tapered marginal portions integral one with each side of the central portion. A projection for intercoupling with another coupling element is formed by drawing a limited area portion of the web central portion out of the plane thereof and away from one surface thereof. The web is then stamped out to form a coupling element having a head portion including the projecton and formed of the central portion of the web, and a pair of tape edge clamping legs each integral with the head portion and formed of one of the marginal portions of the web.
Abstract: A press for forming articles such as sphere-like objects and the like from workpieces includes a frame having two fixed mating dies mounted thereon and a crankshaft rotatably mounted on said frame, the crankshaft having crank arms actuating movable dies. A stationary shearing bushing means is disposed between the two fixed dies, and means are provided for feeding an elongated rod to the shearing bushing means. The shearing bushing means has an entry side and an exit side, and a movably mounted shearing knife means mounted on the entry side of the shearing bushing means is operable to cut blanks from the elongated rod. A feeding means is movably mounted on the exit side of the shearing bushing means and is operable to simultaneously receive a cut blank at the exit side of the shearing bushing means while delivering another cut blank to one of the fixed dies.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method of making reinforcements for concrete, in which a band material of one or two overlapped very thin steel plates which has a certain thickness and a ceratin width is bent and cut at a rotating cutter wheel having cutting teeth which height is approximately twice the thickness of the said plate so that reinforcements of a certain dimension are continuously made; and an apparatus therefor comprising a cutter wheel, a pushing plate and a supporter which constitute a cutting part, and some couples of belt pulleys to continuously feed the material, or further having an equipment to bend both edges of the said material of two overlapped steel plates.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a novel apparatus for perforating the necks of aerosol containers by providing an aerosol end for two or three piece containers having an annular shoulder joined by a radius to a cylindrical neck closed by an end wall, positioning the neck in exterior telescopic relationship to a punch having a circumferential axially terminal cutting edge, supporting the aerosol end in its telescoped position by seating of the end wall upon an end face of the punch, providing an annular guide ring with an internal diameter corresponding generally to the outer diameter of the neck, disposing the axes and imparting relative telescopic movement between the punch and guide ring to sever by a ripping action under tension the end wall from the cylindrical neck while at the same time sandwiching the latter between the inner and outer diameters of the ring guide and punch, respectively.

Abstract: A support means is provided with a pair of fixed dies aligned in spaced, horizontal relationship for receiving a metal strip having a base portion with edge portions extending in planes different from that of the base portion to be cut. Cutting die means are movably carried by the support means with actuating means connected to the movable die means for cutting the base portion and the edge portion of the metal strip supported on the spaced fixed dies with the cutting dies being shaped so that the angle cut on the base portion by the cutting die means is different from the angle cut by the cutting die means on the edge portions of the metal strip.
Abstract: Apparatus for processing a terminal carrier strip comprising terminals attached sidewise to form the carrier strip, includes terminal carrier strip feed means for feeding the carrier strip in a carrier strip feed direction, and turning means cooperating with the terminal carrier strip feed means to turn a leading terminal through an angle relative to the carrier strip feed direction, to aid in attaching flag terminals to lengths of wire.
Abstract: A pair of .omega.-section metallic channels are juxtaposed to form a hollow core with their flat flanges coextensively contacting one another. This core is advanced in steps having a length equal to an even multiple of the predetermined distance toward a work station. Strips are pulled off a pair of supplies at this station and the ends of these strips are advanced toward locations on the core which are spaced apart by the predetermined distance. These strips are advanced by an increment on each step advance of the core. The ends of the strips are spot welded to the flanges on the respective side of the core and the end sections are cut between incremental advances of the strips and step advances of the core to leave a pair of strip arms welded to the core and spaced longitudinally apart by the predetermined distance. The free end of each arm is formed with a split and these split ends are bent in opposite directions to opposite sides of the split.
