  • Patent number: 11453039
Abstract: A stamping press for stamping a round blank. A ram movable in a stroke direction and in an opposite return stroke direction carries a first stamping tool. A second stamping tool and a stamping ring are supported on a press framework. The stamping tools and a stamping opening formed by the stamping ring are aligned along a working axis. An ejector device serves to eject a stamped round blank from the ring opening. It comprises an ejector pin supported on an actuating device that is movably coupled with the ram. During a return stroke of the ram the ejector pin can apply a force on the second stamping tool in order to press the round blank out of the stamping ring. In a ram movement in the stroke direction the actuating device departs from the second stamping tool and no ejector pin force is applied on the second stamping tool.

Abstract: A retractable stock guide has a stationary guide rail on which a retractable guide cap is operably supported. The guide rail and cap have two through holes at opposite ends through which two mounting studs extend to attach the stock guide to an associated die member. The holes in the guide cap are ovate, and the heads of the mounting studs are tapered, whereby tightening of the mounting stud shifts the guide cap relative to the guide rail from an aligned, retracted load/unload condition, to an inwardly protruding, extended run condition, wherein the stock strip is slidingly captured between two like stock guides and the mounting surface of the die. Two ball bearing guides can be substituted for the stationary guide rail.

  • Patent number: 8091403
Abstract: A bodymaker ram attachment has a screwed locator (60), which is fastened to a slide block (70) of the bodymaker and can be aligned to the machine. A new ram with an internal thread and location diameter is screwed onto the locator. A clamp ring (65) tightens a locking element (80) so as to fix the ram (50) to the locator (60) when screws (68), which fasten the clamp ring to the locator, are tightened. The advantage of this new attachment is that the ram can be removed quickly by loosening the clamp ring and locking element then unscrewing the ram from the locator. The ram can then be removed and replaced by sliding through the front of the machine without the need for further disassembly.

  • Patent number: 5492000
Abstract: A press for forming the relatively long cylindrical body of a so-called two piece beverage can utilizes a horizontally reciprocating ram to drive a relatively short cup through a circular die pack. Compressed air applied through a rotary valve is utilized to strip the bodies from the ram. Such valve includes a continuously rotating rotor that is mechanically connected to the drive for the ram such that for each rotor revolution the ram moves through a complete cycle consisting of a forward working stroke followed by a rearward return stroke. The rotor is constructed of two disks that abut face to face. A rotor drive shaft extends through the center of the rotor and the angular position of the disks relative to each other is adjustable to adjust the portion of each rotor revolution during which compressed air is applied for stripping. Each disk is provided with an arcuate aperture and the extent to which these apertures overlap determines how long compressed air is applied for stripping.

  • Patent number: 4840055
Abstract: A drawing apparatus in a press for holding the sheet metal part during the drawing and for the ejection thereof. Additionally, blocking devices are provided which prevent the ejection of the sheet metal draw part at the same time with the upward movement of the press ram. Each blocking device is thereby to be rendered selectively operable or inoperable. A continuous flow of the hydraulic liquid is to be precluded during the inoperative condition of the blocking device. The blocking device consists of a pressure cylinder, of a pressure piston which is displaceably movable on the piston rod displaceable by the draw cushion, and of a compression spring for the displacement of the pressure piston in the ejection direction. The pressure space formed above the pressure piston is selectively pressureless for the inoperative condition, respectively, adapted to be acted upon with controlled pressure for the operative condition of the blocking device.

  • Patent number: 4821552
Abstract: A drawing installation for a press which must produce the holding force during the drawing operation. The drawing ram displaces the sheet metal part and the sheet metal holder against the holding force and additionally must overcome at the beginning of the sheet metal deformation the inertia forces of the accelerated parts of the drawing installation. In order to avoid the forces which occur thereby in an impact-like manner, the piston rods transmitting the holding force and the ejector piston rods are pre-accelerated prior to the drawing ram. The piston rods each include an operating surface adapted to be acted upon in the drawing direction. The pressure spaces coordinated thereto are connected with a pressure quantity space each of a pre-acceleration cylinder and by way of a refill control with a pressure source. The control of the pre-acceleration cylinder and of the refill from the pressure source takes place in dependence on the movement of the drawing ram.
