Abstract: A method and system for flanging a metal part is provided to improve the final dimensions of the part to a desired shape. Residual stresses from flanging operations can distort a final shape of the metal part. This disclosure provides an initial flanging step in which metal gainers are formed into the metal during a first flanging step. The metal gainers provide an increased amount of metal at select regions. Then, during a next flanging step, the metal gainers are smoothened or removed during that flanging step while the metal is additionally bent. The metal gainers help combat the residual stresses and allow the flange to better take the desired shape.

Abstract: A compression lock on a connector for a shelving post has upper and lower, mating collar parts having distal ends encircling more than 180 degrees of the post but separated by a gap through which the post can pass. Each distal end has an axially extending projection with a rounded end and a recess adjoining the projection. The projections of one collar part mate with the recesses of the other collar part to interlock the collar parts around a compression sleeve and form a frusto-conical inner surface that wedges the a mating sleeve against the post to affix a shelf attached to the connector. A tab allows removal of a locking connector, with the connectors stamped out of sheet metal and bent into the frusto-conical shape.

Three guide posts are triangularly positioned on the base and extend generally vertically from the base. An upper fixed superstructure is supported by the three guide posts and fixedly spaced from the base. An upper slidable structural member that mounts an upper die set is slidably mounted on the guide posts between the base and the superstructure. An actuator is mounted on the superstructure and connected to the upper slidable structural member within an area within the guide posts. The actuator is not connected to nor associated with the guide posts, and the actuator is operable to move the upper slidable structural member toward and away from the base to perform hemming and stamping on a workpiece.

Abstract: A yoke is provided in which damage such as bending of a bolt for joining and fastening the base section of the yoke to the end section of a rotating shaft does not easily occur even when that bolt is excessively tightened. In the present invention, a force is applied to both a first flange section and a second flange section in a direction toward each other, and with the inner diameter of the base section elastically reduced, a through hole, screw hole and seating surface section are formed. After that, the force is released and the inner diameter of the base section expands by its own elastic force. Alternatively, with the inner diameter of the base section reduced, the through hole, screw hole and seating surface section are formed, after which the first flange section and second flange section are plastically deformed in the direction away from each other to expand the inner diameter of the base section.
