The internal side has a die impression to shape the template. Each binder has a cavity. The tray dies are disposed between the binders. The bolsters are disposed for engaging the shop press to apply compressive force. Each bolster correspondingly inserts through the cavity and into the depression pocket. The template is disposed between lower and upper internal sides of respective the dies. The shop press applies compression to the bolsters for stamping the template by the dies into the ammunition tray.

This apparatus forms a bending head that is attached to a CNC wire bending machine. This combination allows increased flexibility in forming complex wire forms and cuts down secondary operations, such as operations from robot arms, sometimes associated with CNC wire bending. In addition, the turret cluster position in the center allows for bending support with mandrel bends or nose bending on the back side of the bending head, usually 180 degrees away from the normal bending area. This allows the manufacturing of double end-loop forms without the addition of external clamps or robotic manipulation.

The clamping assembly comprises at least one cam member fixed with respect to the second press member. The cam member defines a pair of spaced-apart cam surfaces oppositely inclined so as to form a channel that widens in the first direction toward the first press member. The clamping assembly further includes a pair of clamping members disposed within the channel so as to be movable along the first direction.

The forces of compression and tension being off-setting thereby enabling the support structure to withstand the bending force.

    Abstract: An apparatus for bending and forming sheet metal into U-shaped channel members is comprised of a support block for supporting a blank of sheet metal in a centered position, a pair of rollers that engage in rolling contact against opposite ends of the sheet metal, and an anvil around which the sheet metal blank is formed into the U-shaped channel member. The sheet metal blank is formed over opposite sides of the anvil by the rollers engaging in rolling contact against the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank. As the rollers roll over the opposite ends of the sheet metal blank, they bend and form the sheet metal ends into channel bends having acute interior angles. When the rollers are removed from the sheet metal ends, the resiliency of the sheet metal causes the channel bends to spring back from their acute angle configurations to right angle configurations.

Each tooling assembly (86,86') has a mandrel (44,44') around which the blank (28,28') is bent and each tooling assembly has two bending sets of tooling therein, a primary bending set (46,46') and a secondary bending set (50/50') for bending the blank initially through a 90 degree angle and then completing the bending operation to form a 180 degree bend.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for forming bends in a tube. A set of bend forming elements are mounted on each of a pair of parallel guideways. Each set of bend forming elements are interconnected by lazy tongs and a motor is provided to drive each set of bend forming elements along the guideways so that each set of bend forming elements may be moved together or separated while maintaining equal spacing between the elements. When a straight tube is placed between the sets of bend forming elements and the bend forming elements are driven together while the guideways simultaneously are driven apart, bends are formed in the tube to form the tube into a serpentine configuration. The bend forming elements have at least two different curvatures on their external surfaces so that the bends in the tube are formed in two stages with each of the different curvatures being sequentially operative to form the final bends in the tube.
