Patent number: 8555695Abstract: A battery unit is housed in a metallic battery case. In the battery unit, current collectors having bent portions on both sides are fixed to face surfaces of an electrode plate group of a prismatic battery. The portions of the battery case, which correspond to the bent portions, are pressed in a thickness direction. Under the pressure, a short circuit inspection for a short circuit between the battery case and the current collectors of the battery unit is executed. When a projected object exists on the bent portion, a short circuit is generated between the battery case and the current collector by pressing so that a short circuit failure caused by a shape of the current collector can be detected.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2012Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: Panasonic EV Energy Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masato Onishi, Shinichi Sakai, Masaru Doutai, Masaru Kobayashi, Hiroaki Arai

Patent number: 6422053Abstract: A method of forming a ratchet wheel adapted to be disposed in at least one end of the ratchet wrench for engaging an element to be turned, includes the step of providing a wheel blank having a generally hollow, cylindrical body formed with a radially projecting rib located midway between an upper hub portion and a lower hub portion, the upper hub portion being integrally formed with an upstanding lip having a diameter equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter of the upper hub portion. The method also includes the step of bending the lip inwardly to form a retention ring adapted to engage the upper surface of the element to be turned and prevent the element from slipping through the wheel of the ratchet wrench.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: A&E Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Billy R. Patent number: 6016682Abstract: A swaging apparatus for attaching sutures to surgical needles includes at least a first die and a second die. The first die has a first member, which includes a first surface, and a second member, which includes a second surface. The second member is movable relative to the first member between an extended position, in which the second surface extends beyond the first surface, and a retracted position, in which the second surface does not extend beyond the first surface. The second die has at least one surface and is movable relative to the first die between a remote position and an adjacent position. When the second die moves relative to the first die from the remote position towards the adjacent position, the second member of the first die is caused to move from the extended position towards the retracted position, and the surfaces of the first and second dies cooperate with one another so as to swage a surgical needle positioned between the first and second dies.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1998Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 5934136Abstract: A compression head for a hydraulic compression tool comprises a fixed die and movable dies, the fixed die being mounted on a stationary head attached to a tool body and the movable dies being positioned within the stationary head and actuated by a piston of a pump mechanism equipped in the tool body. The piston is attached at its front end to a guide plate having a center support and two side supports. The guide plate is provided at both front and reverse sides with guide grooves. Each of the movable dies rests on the upper surface of each side support through a roller means, while it is interposed between two guide plates slidably engaging with said guide grooves of each side support. Further, each of the movable dies is supported against the center support by a return spring, which is received at one end by an insertion hole of each movable die and at the other end by a cutout on the center support.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1998Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Izumi Products CompanyInventors: L'orient Bracher, Masafumi Yamamoto

Patent number: 5001922Abstract: Tools and tool supports in a press which permit a tool changeover operation to be performed quickly and easily are disclosed. A pivot arm is carried on a ram of the press. A punch has an aperture formed therethrough, allowing it to be slidably mounted on the pivot arm. The punch is normally retained by a keeper for use in a first operating position on the pivot arm. The punch may be reversed for use in a second operating position by raising the keeper out of its retaining position and moving the punch along the pivot arm toward a second position. There, the punch can be rotated one hundred eighty degrees about the pivot arm. Then, the punch is moved back to the first position. The keeper automatically retains the reversed punch adjacent to the first support block when the punch is moved back to its original position. To remove the punch from the pivot arm, a retainer pin is removed, allowing one end of the pivot arm to pivot away from the ram.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1989Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: Daniel Kranis, Sr., Jan C. Patent number: 4996864Abstract: A drawing machine for drawing a workpiece (41) comprises first and second drawing dies (42, 43), first and second push rods (45, 46, 47, 48) and first and second junction rods (53, 54). When the first push rods (45, 46) are downwardly moved, the first junction rod (53) is pressed and moved by the first push rod (45) to press the first drawing die (42). Consequently, the first drawing die (42) forms a first-stage drawn part in the workpiece (41). When the second push rods (47, 48) are downwardly moved, the second junction rod (54) is pressed and moved by the second push rod (48), to press the second drawing die (43). Consequently, the second drawing die (43) forms a second-stage drawn part in the workpiece (42). Thus, a plurality of stages of drawn parts can be formed by the same machine. A large number of holes (51, 52) may be provided in a junction die (55) for receiving junction rods (53 ), to insert the junction rods (53) in only prescribed ones of the holes.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1989Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Enami Seiki Mfg. Patent number: 4819473Abstract: A method of and apparatus for press forming sheet metal into articles, such as roof cladding element (10), having intersecting fold lines. A strip of metal is advanced through a forming die which has first (20) and second (21) stages and a press forming operation is performed on the metal strip in each stage of the die during each closing stroke of the die. One portion of the metal strip is formed in the second stage (21) of the die during a first time interval of each closing stroke of the die and a further portion of the metal strip is movably clamped in the first stage (20) of the die during the same time interval in order that it may be pulled into said second stage (21) of the die during the first time interval. During a second time interval of each closing stroke the metal strip is immovably clamped in both stages (20 and 21) of the die.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1987Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Australian Design Marketing PTY., Ltd.Inventor: Matthys B.
