With Means To Effect Compound Motion Of Tool (e.g., Rocking) Patents (Class 72/406)
  • Patent number: 4072040
Abstract: A tool for straightening bent steel sheet piles and a method for efficiently operating the tool which has a movable top jig and a stationary bottom jig. The movable top jig has a surface contoured to the normal shape of one face of a pile to be straightened, and the stationary bottom jig has a complementary surface contoured to the normal shape of the other surface of the pile. The top jig is moved in a vertical direction by rams attached to its upper part and in a horizontal direction by rams attached to its side. The method involves vising a pile placed between the complementary surfaces of the jig by alternately activating the vertical and horizontal rams. The top jig is then moved away and the straightened pile is removed.

  • Patent number: 4069698
Abstract: Form pieces, particularly rivet heads are formed by point rolling of an active surface of a forming tool along the formed surface by an arrangement wherein the required motion of the forming tool is composed of two components, both of which are derived from rotating motions around an axis coaxial with the axis of the arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4019358
Abstract: In a rolling mill for a metal workpiece and comprising a pair of rotary work rolls for reducing the thickness of the workpiece when it is fed therebetween, a carrier for at least one of the work rolls comprises a cam surface which can roll on a counterface provided on a backing member for the carrier. Means are provided for displacing the carrier, whereby the cam surface is rolled on the counterface of the backing member and the said one work roll is displaced to describe a path determined by the shapes of the cam surface and counterface. It is preferred that each work roll of the pair be supported by a separate displaceable carrier, each carrier having a cam surface which can roll on counterfaces of separate associated backing members.

  • Patent number: 4003288
Abstract: A tubular rivet for blind placing comprises a cylindrical body 21, an externally thickened tail portion 34, and a head 22 with an internal taper 26 and external taper 25. The rivet is placed by pulling through it the head 42 of a mandrel, the head having a relatively steep taper 43 at the leading end.

  • Patent number: 3990285
Abstract: Different surfaces of articles are shaped by means of a shaping tool. The active surface of the shaping tool is rolled reversibly along the shaped surface with a point contact in the axial plane of the shaped surface, such axial plane turning around the axis of the shaped surface, the amplitude of this reversible relative rolling being selected arbitrarily.

  • Patent number: 3961519
Abstract: A hammer for use in sheet metal working has a handle and a hammer head having at one end face a plurality of circumferentially inclined face sections and an adapter having at the rear thereof inclined face sections complementary to the first inclined face sections for causing the adapter to rotate by sliding along both inclined face sections. The hammer head and the adapter are encircled by an elastic tubular sleeve member or coil spring for rotably connecting said head and adapter and for elastically holding said adapter in a return position with respect to the rotation to be caused at the time of striking. On the striking face of the adapter, there may be provided a plurality of projecting stripes.

  • Patent number: 3955391
Abstract: A rod or bar mill stand has two work-roll carrying mountings which are pivoted together on one side of the plane containing the roll axes and which are individually connected to synchronously driven eccentrices. The eccentric drives for the roll mountings, together with the pivotal connection, cause each of the roll axes to follow an eliptical or oval path, such that each roll approaches the pass line to reduce the work, over a part only of the path. The work rolls are driven about their own axes to induce forward movement of the work.
