Vehicle Body Or Frame Straightener Patents (Class 72/705)
  • Patent number: 3961519
Abstract: A hammer for use in sheet metal working has a handle and a hammer head having at one end face a plurality of circumferentially inclined face sections and an adapter having at the rear thereof inclined face sections complementary to the first inclined face sections for causing the adapter to rotate by sliding along both inclined face sections. The hammer head and the adapter are encircled by an elastic tubular sleeve member or coil spring for rotably connecting said head and adapter and for elastically holding said adapter in a return position with respect to the rotation to be caused at the time of striking. On the striking face of the adapter, there may be provided a plurality of projecting stripes.

  • Patent number: 3959619
Abstract: One side of a source of electrical energy is connected to a dented metal sheet and a hammer electrode connected to the other side of the source is successively brought into instantaneous contact with a multiplicity of locations spaced apart over the dent. The sheet is electrically heated at the location so that stresses in the sheet are relieved, thereby relaxing the sheet and flattening the dent. The electrode is generally L-shaped and has a pointed copper tip surrounded by a safety sleeve with only the point of the tip projecting from the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 3955249
Abstract: A clamping device especially adapted for use with an automotive body or frame straightening device is disclosed wherein at least two clamping members each having a clamping jaw section at one end thereof and a clamping guide section at the other end thereof are held together by a retaining ring in such a manner that they may pivot about a ball disposed inwardly thereof, and within the space defined by the clamping guide sections is disposed a tapered member which has an outwardly tapered outer peripheral surface. When the tapered member is drawn or pulled outwardly, its tapered outer surface forces the clamping guide sections to move away from each other while forcing the clamping jaw sections to move toward each other, whereby the strong clamping force is produced.

  • Patent number: 3955397
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved apparatus for pulling deformations out of sheet metal and metal frames of automobiles, and other vehicles or other items having metal parts. The improvements are directed towards chain pulley assemblies, through which pulling chains travel. The chain pulley assemblies allow locking of the pulling chain within the tracks of the pulley assemblies, prevent loss of pull on one chain assembly, even though the pull angle is changed on another chain assembly during the course of the pull, and permit two or more individual controlled pulls to be accomplished at the same time.

  • Patent number: 3935725
Abstract: A horizontal support frame having an upstanding lever pivoted to the frame adjacent one end thereof with the toggle comprising a pair of arms having adjacent ends pivoted together, the opposite end of one of the arms being pivotly connected adjacent the end of the frame opposite the upstanding lever. The opposite end of the other arm is pivotly connected to the upstanding lever intermediate the ends thereof. A hydraulic actuator for the upstanding lever comprises a cylinder having one end closed and the opposite end open, the closed end being pivotly connected to the pivotly connected ends of the toggle arms. A piston is reciprocally mounted in the cylinder and has a piston rod extending outwardly of the open end of the cylinder, the free end of the piston rod being pivotly connected to the frame on the same pivot pin pivotly connecting the lower end of the lever to the frame.
