Backlash Prevention Patents (Class 720/665)
  • Patent number: 8893162
Abstract: In an optical disc drive, a degradation of traveling performance of an optical pickup under hard acceleration or hard deceleration in a random access operation or the like results in a degradation of recording/reproducing performance. Groove structure is provided between two gears of a guide feed provided in an optical pickup, and the groove forms bending structure. Thus, the engagement state between a screw gear and the gears of the guide feed is stabilized. This makes it possible to prevent tooth jumping and step-out from occurring in the gears during the traveling of the optical pickup, achieving stable traveling. In consequence, the recoding/reproducing performance of the optical disc drive can be improved.

  • Patent number: 8051440
Abstract: According to one aspect, an optical read/write device for reading and/or writing an optical disc includes a base, optical pickup head, and a driving mechanism for slidably driving the optical pickup head. The driving mechanism includes a worm gear, a motor for rotating the worm gear, and a rack disposed between the worm gear and the optical pickup head for transferring motion from the worm gear to the optical pickup head. The rack includes a fastening portion for fixing the rack to the optical pickup head, a mesh portion for engaging with the worm gear, a restricting portion connected to the mesh portion for being blocked by the gear seat when the mesh portion is pressed by the worm gear to prevent the mesh portion from disengaging from the worm gear, and a connecting portion for connecting the fastening portion with the restricting portion.

  • Patent number: 6938264
Abstract: A lash-eliminating device for a worm-and-gear assembly. The worm-and-gear assembly includes a worm and a worm gear engaged therewith. The lash-eliminating device comprises a base, a frame, a motor, and a biasing member. The worm gear is disposed on the base. The frame is disposed on the base in a rotatable manner. The motor is disposed in the frame, and includes an output shaft. The output shaft is connected to the worm. The biasing member is disposed on the base in a manner such that the biasing member abuts the frame. Thus, when the worm is rotated by the motor via the output shaft so as to rotate the worm gear, the frame is rotated by the biasing member so that the worm is moved relative to the worm gear to eliminate a lash between the worm and the worm gear.
