Dampening Or Resonance Suppression Patents (Class 720/687)
  • Patent number: 8605558
Abstract: Disclosed are a pickup device assembly and an optical drive system. The assembly may comprise: a laser generator for generating laser beams; an objective lens; and at least one piezoelectric actuator for generating bending moments once applied with voltages, wherein the generated bending moments move the objective lens such that the laser beams are focused by the objective lens and then aim at concentric spiral data tracks of a disc with a strongest reflected signal of the laser beams from the disc.

  • Patent number: 8422351
Abstract: An optical disc apparatus records information onto plural disc shaped mediums of different standards or reproduces information from the plural disc shaped mediums. The optical disc apparatus includes an optical pickup equipped with a spherical aberration correcting unit using a movable lens, and a disc insertion unit for inserting and ejecting the disc shaped mediums. The spherical aberration correcting unit starts the movement of the movable lens to an initial position while the disc insertion unit inserts or ejects the disc shaped medium. As such, the present invention discloses the optical disc apparatus with a reduced disc recognition time for improving user convenience and a driving method thereof.

  • Patent number: 8060898
Abstract: A pickup head is provided with a second shaft receiving section. A cutout is formed in the second shaft receiving section. A sub shaft supports the pickup head in a movable manner via the second shaft receiving section. A diameter of the sub shaft is smaller than the size of the cutout. A retainer is attached between the second shaft receiving section and the sub shaft. The retainer includes a body section and a pressing section. The body section enters the cutout in a state that a slide groove of the body section slidably fits to the sub shaft. The pressing section is elastically deformed upon contact with the sub shaft when the body section enters the cutout, and biases the second shaft receiving section via the body section such that a lower surface of the cutout is pressed against the sub shaft.

  • Patent number: 7900222
Abstract: An optical pickup has an objective lens drive device which includes a fixed block fixed to a movement base, a movable block having an objective lens and a lens holder that holds the objective lens, a plurality of support springs that couples the fixed block with the movable block, and a focusing magnetic coil that operates the movable block in a focusing direction. A distance between the fixed block and a recording surface of a disk recording medium is larger than a distance between the movable block and the recording surface. The support springs are inclined with respect to the recording surface. The support springs have a longitudinal direction orthogonal to a direction of a thrust generated at the focusing magnetic circuit to the movable block during a focusing operation.

  • Patent number: 7325243
Abstract: The present invention discloses an electromagnetic driving device for an object lens of an optical pickup. The electromagnetic driving device comprises an object lens, a lens bearing seat, a focusing coil, a tracking coil, an auxiliary magnetic device, a base, a plurality of elastomers, and a top cover. The object lens, focusing coil, and tracking coil are fixed to the lens-bearing seat. The auxiliary magnetic device comprises a plurality of magnets fixed to the base. Each of the elastomers is attached to the lens-bearing seat and has an end fixed to the base. By utilizing electromagnetic forces generated by the coils and the auxiliary magnetic device, the object lens is moved to correct tracking deviations and focusing aberrations. The present invention enhances a utilization of the coils, which in turn improves a response time, and sensitivity of the electromagnetic driving device so that the optical pickup can be used in a high-speed optical recording device.
