Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods disclosed herein include apparatus, systems, and methods for securing the information contained on information discs, such as CD's, DVD's, Blu-Ray discs, or any optical media used for carrying information. The apparatus includes a security device that prevents unauthorized users from accessing the protected disc, discs, or spindle. The apparatus is such that any unauthorized attempts to unlock the locking device will result in damage to the disc, making it unreadable and/or unrenderable. The security device may be part of a system that also includes a network and a remote authentication server. Authentication data is transmitted over the network between the security device and the remote authentication server. The authentication data is then used to determine whether or not to unlock the security device.

Abstract: A disc cartridge includes a case body in which a plurality of disc-shaped recording media can be stored being arranged in the axial direction of a central shaft and which includes a first shell having a base face portion parallel to a recording face of the recording medium and a second shell having a basal plane portion parallel to the recording face, which move toward or away from each other in the axial direction, thereby being combined with or separated from each other, wherein the second shell has a pair of side face portions protruding in the same direction from both end portions of the basal plane portion and situated facing each other, a thin-walled portion is formed at a central portion between the side face portions in the basal plane portion, and a bridge member which is attached to span the side face portions is provided.

The holding unit includes a pair of elastic pressure parts, elastically formed on the opening cover, for elastically supporting the information recording medium to prevent movement of the information recording medium when the opening cover is not attached to the cartridge case, and a release unit for releasing the pair of elastic pressure parts when the opening cover is attached to the cartridge case so that the information recording medium is rotatable in the cartridge case.

Abstract: An optical disc cartridge of the present invention includes: a casing provided with a disc inserting/opening part for inserting/taking out a disc thereinto/therefrom at an upper surface thereof and an access hole which an optical pickup approaches at a lower surface thereof; a pair of shutters mounted in the casing and opening/closing the access hole and fixing the optical disc; a rotary wheel rotatably positioned on the shutters and moving the shutters; a wheel fixing/releasing means mounted at one side in the casing and fixing/releasing the rotary wheel; and a disc fixing/releasing means movably mounted at the casing and limiting inserting/taking out the disc into/from the disc inserting/opening part by adjusting a size of the disc inserting/opening part.

The structure of the disc cartridge includes the casing receiving the disc, and a disc holder disposed separably at the casing, having tension arms elastically holding the disc, and guiding the disc into or out of the casing, the protruding supporting member having a predetermined height from the inner surface of the casing and being contacted with a non-recording region of the disc, which height is equal to or greater than a sum of a vertical deflection of the disc due to gravity, a vertical deflection of the tension arms, and an air gap which must be maintained between surfaces of the disc and flanges of the tension arms.

An indicator on the cartridge body indicates whether the cover has ever been opened or removed from the cartridge body.
