Abstract: An information handling system component contained within an information handling system housing uses the information handling system housing as at least a portion of a safety enclosure for hazardous functions of the component. A lock out device disables the hazardous function if the information handling system housing is moved relative to the component. For example, an optical disc drive laser is disabled if a Hall effect sensor in the chassis of the optical disc drive no longer senses a magnet placed in a portion of the information handling system housing used to enclose the optical disc drive.

Abstract: Apparatus to hold discs and other objects having interior holes are disclosed. An apparatus, in one aspect, may include a base, a top that is dimensioned smaller than a diameter of an interior hole of a data storage disc to allow the top to pass through the hole, sides connecting the top with the base, and a disc support surface of the sides to support the disc if the top is passed through the hole and the disc is rested on the sides. An apparatus, in another aspect, may include a disc holder including an electrically conductive material, and a conductive line coupled at a first end thereof with the electrically conductive material of the disc holder to conduct static electricity away from the conductive material. Methods of using the apparatus to hold the discs and other objects having interior holes are also disclosed.

Abstract: A rotor is provided which is rotatably disposed between a first shell and a recording medium, in a containing space formed inside the first shell and a second shell. The rotor includes a first wall formed along the circumferential direction of the rotor, and a part of the first wall is cut out to form a first opening. The second shell includes a second wall formed so as to overlap with the inside of the first wall along the outer circumference of the recording medium, on the outside in the radial direction of the outer circumference of the recording medium. The second wall and the first wall constitute a labyrinth structure portion for isolating the recording medium and the exterior of the recording medium from each other. With the rotor rotated, the first opening and a second opening constitute a head in/out opening.
Abstract: An apparatus includes a removable cartridge having an information storage medium, and having a housing with the information storage medium movably supported therein. The housing is configured so that, if electrostatic charge is present on an exterior surface of the housing, the information storage medium will be substantially free of induced charge.
Abstract: A disc cartridge includes: a cartridge body including a disc storage portion storing a disc, having first and second sides, therein so that the disc is rotatable there and that the first side is exposed and chucking and head opening formed on the bottom of the storage portion so as to get the disc chucked externally and allow a read/write head to access the second side, respectively; a shutter supported, and movable with respect to the cartridge body, between the second side of the disc and the bottom of the disc storage portion so as to expose or cover the chucking and head openings and defining a hole under a center hole of the disc while the shutter is closed; and a disc holder provided for the shutter and pressing the disc against the shutter and holding it thereon while the chucking and head openings are covered with the shutter.

Abstract: A cartridge for an information recording medium includes a cartridge case, an opening cover, detachably mounted to a rear side opening of the cartridge case, for enabling the information recording medium to be withdrawn or inserted with respect to the cartridge case, and a holding unit for preventing movement of the information recording medium by supporting the information recording medium when the information recording medium is received and/or withdrawn into/from the cartridge case. The holding unit includes a pair of elastic pressure parts, elastically formed on the opening cover, for elastically supporting the information recording medium to prevent movement of the information recording medium when the opening cover is not attached to the cartridge case, and a release unit for releasing the pair of elastic pressure parts when the opening cover is attached to the cartridge case so that the information recording medium is rotatable in the cartridge case.

Abstract: A disk cartridge includes a data storage disk and a casing for accommodating the disk. The disk includes a recoding portion and a non-recording portion. The casing has an inner surface facing the disk. An anti-static layer is provided on the inner surface of the casing for eliminating the static electricity generated on the disk. An elastic member or cushion is provided on the inner surface of the casing. The recording portion of the disk is brought into contact with the anti-static layer only when the disk is not rotating.
