Cable Modem Patents (Class 725/111)
  • Patent number: 12160456
Abstract: A multicasting download-to-mobile-device service that broadcasts and distributes digital media over cellular networks is described. The most preferred embodiments of the present invention comprise a network that distributes a plurality of media titles (e.g., movies, tv shows, concerts, etc.) via multicast streams where the media titles are stored in local storage on a mobile electronic device (e.g., cellular telephones and tablets) and, by way of a mobile device app, allows users to play the stored media titles locally from their devices using current on demand playback methodologies. In addition, at least some preferred embodiments of the present invention comprise a data carousel that curates and delivers discrete media titles to selected cell towers and/or hubs, thereby providing for relevant media titles to be multicast to discrete regions and not the entire network. Finally, the data carousel may be configured to synchronize relevant titles for discrete users of the service.

  • Patent number: 12149372
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enhancing communication and performance for a device backhauled by a wireline communication network. In one embodiment, the device comprises a small-cell or other wireless base station that is backhauled by a DOCSIS system within a managed HFC network, and the method and apparatus enable enhanced communication between the small cell/base station and the backhaul network so as to support “rate matching” between the device to mitigate packet overflow or other issues. In one implementation, enhanced cable modem (CM) and base station devices coordinate to inform the base station of the modulation order (and/or other parameters related to transmission of the data destined for the base station on the backhaul) so that the base station can selectively invoke utilization of higher-order modulation and/or coding schemes, as well as spatial multiplexing or beamforming.

  • Patent number: 12096165
Abstract: Digital information can be carried on the fiber leg of an access network using binary modulation. Binary modulated data received at an O/E node can then be modulated onto an analog waveform using quadrature amplitude modulation or some other technique for modulating an analog waveform and transmitted over, for example, the coaxial leg of the network. The O/E node may also receive an analog signal, over the coaxial leg, modulated to carry upstream data from subscriber devices. The O/E node may demodulate the upstream signal to recover the upstream data and forward that upstream data over the fiber leg using a binary modulated optical signal.

  • Patent number: 12058617
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to transmitting and receiving an improved wake-up signal (WUS) by grouping user equipment (UE). A base station may group and assign a plurality of UEs into UE groups. The base station can then determine and transmit a WUS identifying certain UEs to wake-up for a paging occasion (PO). The UEs can listen for their corresponding WUS. After receiving the WUS, the UEs can wake-up for the PO. The base station can also determine the total amount of different UE groups. Within each group, there can be both legacy and updated UEs, wherein each legacy UE receives the same legacy WUS and the updated UEs receive a group-specific WUS. The base station can also balance the amount of legacy and updated UEs within each group based on different factors. Also, each WUS can be turned on or off, which can be carrier specific.

  • Patent number: 11509668
Abstract: Systems and methods to reverse-predict a MAC address associated with a computing device are described. In one embodiment, first temporal communication data associated with the computing device is accessed for a first time interval. The first temporal communication data is converted into a first image. Second temporal communication data associated with the computing device is accessed for a second time interval. The second temporal communication data is converted into a second image. An image ensemble including the first image and the second image is analyzed using a neural network. Each image in the image ensemble is converted from temporal communication data associated with the computing device. The neural network learns a temporal pattern associated with the image ensemble. Current temporal communication data associated with the computing device is accessed and converted into a current image. The current image is compared with the temporal pattern.

  • Patent number: 11496442
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for identifying and responding to illegitimate devices on a service provider network include computing devices that are configured to collect dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) information related to a device (e.g., a modem, etc.) that establishes or requests to establish an internet protocol (IP) connection to the service provider network. The computing devices may determine features based on the collected DHCP information, apply the determined features to a classification model, and predict whether the device is an illegitimate device based on a result of applying the determined features to the classification model. The computing devices may perform a responsive action (e.g., blacklist or quarantine the device, etc.) in response to predicting that the device is an illegitimate device.

Abstract: Various arrangements for performing transmodulation of a forward feeder link are presented. A first data stream and a second data stream can be modulated into a higher-order modulation forward feeder link having a higher-order digital modulation scheme. A satellite can receive the higher-order modulation forward feeder link. The satellite can demodulate the higher-order modulator forward feeder link into a bit stream. This bit stream may then be remodulated and retransmitted as multiple forward user links.

  • Patent number: 11044119
Abstract: A router device in a subscriber domain receives communications from a communication device. The communications are destined for delivery over a first network operated by a corresponding service provider to a destination in a second network such as the Internet. To convey communications, the router device maps a network address obtained from the first communications to a corresponding marker assigned to the communication device. The router device then tags the communications from the communication device with the corresponding marker and forwards the tagged communications (with the marker) over the first network to the second network. The first network operated by the service provider conveys the tagged communications in accordance with a data delivery policy as indicated by the corresponding marker in the forwarded communications.

  • Patent number: 10938478
Abstract: Dynamic power in cable access networks may be reduced. First, a peak data rate associated with a network may be determined. Then, a modulation order and an associated Radio Frequency (RF) level that will support the determined peak data rate may be determined. Next, a power value to be transmitted by a node in the network based on the determined modulation order and the associated RF level may be determined. A bias value may then be determined for the node to support the determined power value.
