Abstract: A vehicle includes a plurality of broadcast reception antennae; a speaker; and an audio-video-navigation (AVN) device electrically connected to the plurality of broadcast reception antennae and the speaker; wherein the AVN device is configured to receive broadcast signals of a plurality of different frequencies from the plurality of broadcast reception antennae, synthesize the broadcast signals of different frequencies, and provide the synthesized broadcast signal to the speaker to output a sound corresponding to the synthesized broadcast signals.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to control of transmission and consumption of content in a device, such as an end-point rendering device. The content can include linear-programming content assets and/or time-shifted content assets. Consumption can be mediated by a control device that can coordinate the functional interaction between the device and a content distribution network node or an access network node that can supply the content and related information.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for syndicating slideshow content in a web feed. Data is obtained for a content feed associated with a web page in response to a request by a user of a content feed reader. A slideshow within the web page is identified based on analysis of the obtained data according to a schema definition for syndication of slideshow content. A first set of properties for the slideshow is extracted from the obtained data, based on the schema definition. A set of slides of the slideshow is identified based on the first set of properties. A second set of properties for the set of slides is also extracted from the obtained data. The content feed including the set of slides of the slideshow and one or more properties of the second set are displayed to the user via the content feed reader.

Abstract: An approach to commercial information tagging. A digital radio receiver may be configured to receive commercial metadata that is part of a digital radio stream. A user may be able to provide input indicating that a particular commercial is of interest, thereby selecting the commercial metadata. The digital radio receiver may then determine one or more devices, from a set of devices that are communicatively connected to the digital radio receiver, that are configured to receive advertising associated with the commercial metadata. The digital radio receiver may then transmit the advertising to the various devices. In response, the devices may display information about the entity that sponsored the particular commercial; for example, a cellular phone may display a coupon, while a GPS device displays directions to the nearest location.

Abstract: A computing device or server receives statuses from devices in a network. The statuses may be determined according to sensor data relating to environmental characteristics, or vital signs of a person or animal. Sound data is generated according to the received statuses, and provided to a computing device, such as one in the vicinity of the devices. The computing device provides audio output reflecting the sound data, such that a user may passively monitor statuses of the devices. The sound data may be further varied according to the proximity of the computing device to the device with which the sound data is associated, indicating to the user which one of a plurality of devices the audio output relates.

Abstract: Circuitry for use in a network controller comprises a processor and memory. The network controller is operable to control communications in a network comprising a plurality of devices connected via a shared coaxial cable. The circuitry is operable to maintain one or more data structures that hold per-sender-receiver-pair link parameters and per-sender-receiver-pair bandwidth grant status. The circuitry is operable to, in response to receipt of a reservation request on the shared coaxial cable, decide which one or more of a plurality of subbands and which one or more of a plurality timeslots to reserve for the transmission based, at least in part, on the per-sender-receiver-pair link parameters and the per-sender-receiver-pair bandwidth grant status in the one or more data structures. The circuitry is operable to generate a reservation grant message that indicates the decided one or more subbands and the decided one or more timeslots.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed toward communication of voice data via a first receiving device using at least three non-overlapping networks. The communication includes receiving at the first receiving device a call request from a first communications device via a first personal area network. The call request identifies a second receiving device. The first receiving device is configured to output first video data and first audio data to at least one first presentation device. The communication also includes communicating voice data between the first communications device and the first receiving device via the first personal area network, and communicating the voice data between the first receiving device and the second receiving device via a receiving device network. The second receiving device is configured to output second video data and second audio data to at least one second presentation device.

Abstract: Provided is an IP uncompressed video encoder that converts an IP packet stream of uncompressed video to an IP packet stream of compressed video. The method and apparatus comprises a consolidator configured to consolidate a plurality of unutilized regions based on a determination of a difference between an aspect ratio of a display being generated and an aspect ratio of first content to form a consolidated display region. The method and apparatus consolidates the plurality of unutilized regions to generate an output video signal having the consolidated region and a first content region associated with the first content. The plurality of unutilized regions is consolidated by at least partially moving the first content region towards at least one edge of the output video signal. The plurality of unutilized regions is consolidated by scaling down size of the first content region associated with the first content.

One method can comprise receiving validation information regarding validity of a plurality of command codes and identifying one or more code indices based upon the received validation information. If the one or more of the code indices is a full function match, the one or more of the code indices can be transmitted to the control device. If the one or more of the code indices is a partial function match, supplemental validation information can be requested regarding validity of one or more second command codes.

Abstract: In one example embodiment, a program navigation system involves a television (TV) set (or other audio/visual presentation device) and a mobile device. While the TV set is playing an audio/visual program, a keyword recognition module may extract keywords from textual data associated with the program. The textual data may include textual words that match words spoken in the program. Time markers for the keywords may also be saved. A time marker may indicate a play time within the program for the corresponding keyword. The TV set may automatically transmit the keywords to the mobile device, and the mobile device may automatically display the keywords in a user interface. A user may then select one of the keywords. In response, the mobile device may automatically cause the TV set to jump to a portion of the program containing the selected keyword. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

In the method, a request to reconfigure the entertainment system is received at a first component of the entertainment system. In response to the request, an indication of a configuration command for a second component of the entertainment system is transmitted from the first component to a remote control device. In response to receiving the indication of the configuration command at the remote control device, the configuration command is transmitted from the remote control device to the second component.

Abstract: An external device may recognize, in the case of including a communication unit that executes communication via a communication path made up of a pair of differential transmission paths included in a transmission path, information relating to the communication unit thereof. A disk recorder transmits function information indicating that a communication unit (high-speed data line I/F 213) configured to execute communication with an external device via a communication path made up of a reserve line and an HPD line of an HDMI cable to a television receiver via a CEC line that is a control data line of the HDMI cable. In various embodiments, media content may be advertising, consumer-generated, based on real-time events, based on a schedule, or assembled to fit within an estimated available time. Media content may be assembled using an adaptation engine that selects a plurality of media segments that fit in the estimated available time, orders the plurality of media segments, alters at least one of the plurality of media segments to fit the estimated available time, if necessary, and creates a playlist of selected media content containing the plurality of media segments.

The system also receives metadata that describes content within the video stream and is not compressed according to the standard, inserts the metadata into the packet without compressing the metadata according to the standard, and transmits the packet across the packet-switched network to a target device.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for distributed recording of content in a client system having a home network connecting a content broker and a plurality of set-top boxes (STBs) with digital video recording capability. In a requesting STB, a command is received from a user to begin recording a content item. A query is sent from the requesting STB to the content broker to determine whether the content item is being recorded by any other STB of the plurality of STBs. A response is received from the content broker. If the response indicates that none of the plurality of STBs is then currently recording the content item, the content item is recorded in the requesting STB. If the response identifies a recording STB that is then currently recording the requested content, an internal content list is updated in the requesting STB to identify the recording STB.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for automatically analyzing multimedia data are disclosed. Embodiments receive multimedia data, detect portions having specified features, and output a corresponding subset of the multimedia data. Content features from downloaded or streaming movies or video clips are identified as a human probably would do, but in essentially real time. Embodiments then generate an index or menu based on individual consumer preferences. Consumers can peruse the index, or produce customized trailers, or edit and tag content with metadata as desired. The tool can categorize and cluster content by feature, to assemble a library of scenes or scene clusters according to user-selected criteria. The results may be sent to visual search engines so that further related content may be identified for use as a customized trailer, replacement content for advertisements, or as material to be shared with others.
