  • Patent number: 8069717
Abstract: Method for monitoring conditions within a plurality of machines that receive fluid from a common source includes providing a supply line extending from the common source to an inlet at each of the machines. A return line is also provided that extends from an outlet at each of the machines to the common source to return fluid from each of the machines to the common source. A particulate filter is provided at the outlet of each of the machines so that each of the particulate filters will capture the particulates that were added to the fluid in the particular one of the machines with which that filter is associated. The particulate filters are periodically examined to determine the buildup of particulates that were generated within that particular machine. The particulate build up indicates whether or not a machine is in need of repair.

Abstract: Wear of a pump is estimated using a process that involves operating the pump to drive a hydraulic actuator that moves a member. The actual speed of the member is determined and the speed of the pump is sensed. Pressure of fluid conveyed from the pump to the hydraulic actuator also is sensed. A predicted speed of the member is calculated based on the speed of the pump and the pressure of the fluid. The predicted speed is compared to the actual speed and the result is employed to provide an indication of a degree of wear of the pump. The difference between the predicted speed and the actual speed increases as the pump wear increases.

  • Patent number: 7954371
Abstract: A method of monitoring the condition of a pump (10) or at least one component of a system that includes a pump which component or components are not a part of the pump, includes the step of generating a predetermined test condition in the pump or system component or components. During a period in which such a test condition is present, signals indicative of the pump or system component or components are obtained. Wear in the pump bearings, the build-up of deposits in the pump or in pipework forming a part of the pump system can be detected or predicted and corrective action taken before the pump or system fails. By providing a method of monitoring pump or system condition in-situ, it is possible to reduce the likelihood of pump failure in use and the need to carry out over frequent servicing of the pump.

Abstract: A method for increasing compressed air efficiency in a pump utilizes an air efficiency device in order to optimize the amount of a compressed air in a pump. The air efficiency device may allow for controlling the operation of the air operated diaphragm pump by reducing the flow of compressed air supplied to the pump as the pump moves between first and second diaphragm positions. A sensor may be used to monitor velocity of the diaphragm assemblies. In turn, full position feedback is possible so that the pump self adjusts to determine the optimum, or close to optimum, turndown point of the diaphragm assemblies. As such, air savings is achieved by minimizing the amount of required compressed air.

  • Patent number: 7504961
Abstract: A local logic solver operates with a local smart valve controller to control and test a local field-mounted emergency isolation valve device, outputting a local indication of trouble on the device, which is mounted in the field away from the facility's central control panel for the process. Accordingly, the operation of the overall system is simplified by eliminating the need for an external computer to diagnose any problems. A local control panel includes an indicator light substantially adjacent to or in close proximity to the device being monitored to alert personnel of detected faults. Detected faults are time-stamped locally to generate documentation and to track the elapsed time, starting when the degraded state of the device was detected and first signaled as a problem.

  • Patent number: 7497116
Abstract: In a flow rate estimation method of a blood pump, a general flow rate estimation formula which includes a correction term is formed based on a plurality of blood pumps. Measured data obtained from an objective blood pump implanted inside a patient is substituted into the correction term, thus forming a flow rate estimation formula of the objective blood pump. The flow rate Q of the objective blood pump is estimated based on the flow rate estimation formula and the values of the rotational speed N and the consumption current I of the motor of the objective blood pump, and the attribute data Z of the blood of the patient.

  • Patent number: 7454985
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and relevant electronic device (10) for determining the hydraulic flow rate in a pump driven by a synchronous electric motor (12), said motor (12) being of the type comprising a rotor (14), equipped with a permanent magnet, which is rotation-driven by the electromagnetic field generated by a stator (16) equipped with pole pieces (18) with relevant windings. The method comprises an indirect measuring of the flow rate through the following steps of: acquiring at least one pump operation variable; comparing the value of said variable with a predetermined correlation table to hydraulic flow rate values and determining a corresponding flow rate value.

  • Patent number: 7406864
Abstract: Mechanical overloads in a reciprocating gas compressor can cause irreparable damage to compressor components if the source of the overloads is not repaired. A method of detecting mechanical overloads includes forming a mechanical fuse that is configured to strain under overload conditions, and observing a condition of the mechanical fuse. The condition of the mechanical fuse is indicative of whether the compressor experienced a mechanical overload. By simply observing the mechanical fuse, overload conditions can be checked during routine inspections and maintenance checks.

  • Patent number: 7401624
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for monitoring a pipeline in order to detect the slow reduction of the free inner cross-section by means of the position of a control valve in the pipeline. When the flow rate is essentially constant, a first position is determined and stored at a first moment. According to at least one second position of the control valve, determined at a second, subsequent moment, the point at which the position of the valve exceeds a pre-deterrninable threshold value for a valve opening is determined, and optionally a signal is emitted to indicate that the threshold value has been exceeded and/or the time at which it was exceeded. As a result, suitable maintenance measures can be introduced, before faults occur in the process system.

Abstract: A positive displacement pump monitor. The monitor includes a sensor coupled to a housing of a pump for obtaining acoustic data therefrom. A proximity switch may be simultaneously used to keep real time timing information relative to the cycling of the pump. A data processor of the monitor may then be employed to analyze acoustic data and timing information to distinguish acceptable noise from leak information. An operator thereby may be warned of the presence of a leak in the pump.

  • Patent number: 7380452
Abstract: A method of determining fuse parameters in a reciprocating gas compressor ensures a safe failure upon exceeding an overload limit. Stresses and bolted joint behavior for critical components in compressor running gear are evaluated using a finite element analysis. Capabilities of the critical components during an overload event are evaluated using a propagation and variances tool. The capabilities of the critical components are compared against overload conditions. At least one of an optimal fuse location and a fuse geometry are determined according to the comparison to establish a safe failure point upon exceeding the overload limit. With a mechanical fuse defining a failure point, critical compressor components can be protected from damage, and personnel can be protected from risk of a gas leakage.
