Abstract: A mechanical governor for an internal combustion engine with a measuring element optimized with respect to weight and working capacity. The governor sleeve is of a thin-walled, light weight construction and centrifugal weights are provided which have stops to prevent collision and entanglement with the governor sleeve. The bearing pins for the centrifugal weights are located near the radially outer circumference of the governor configuration.

Abstract: A diesel engine mechanical governor is disclosed having various novel features including a fuel modulating and maximum and minimum speed controlling cam plate and follower mechanism which connects the governor speed responsive actuating mechanism with the fuel rack actuating means to modify the effect of the manual fuel control means in a predetermined manner. The disclosure also includes novel rocking flyweight mechanism arranged to provide an output force as a function of rotational input shaft speed in which the exponential increase in centrifugal force upon outward rocking of the flyweights is partially offset to provide a more gradual increase in force with a corresponding increase of speed.
Abstract: A pair of flyweights are mounted on a rotatable shaft and actuate a sleeve which is coaxially disposed on the shaft through a pair of radially extending control arms which are pivotally attached to the sleeve. The flyweights are biased inwardly by a pair of springs mounted on the control arms. On the opposite end of the sleeve is a bearing which provides a physical connection between the rotating sleeve and a non-rotating plate carrying a pair of movable contacts which cooperate with stationary contacts mounted on a stationary housing. The flyweights move outwardly upon rotation of the shaft against the action of the springs and move the sleeve axially along the shaft. The inward bias force of the springs decreases rapidly as the pivot connection of the control arms approaches the pivot connection of the flyweights causing an over center-type of action which results in an abrupt electrical connection between the stationary and the movable contacts.
Abstract: An integral mechanical governor for controlling the speed of prime movers, such as steam turbines is disclosed as a separate structure that can be mounted on and coupled to the shaft of the associated prime mover. The device includes a housing having at least one end opening and closure means for the open end of the housing, the housing and closure defining a governor assembly chamber and a sump for lubricating fluid. The end wall remote from the open end has an inboard bearing means for rotatably mounting a driven shaft disposed to extend from the governor assembly chamber through the bearing to the exterior of the housing to permit said driven shaft to be coupled to the shaft of the prime mover when the integral mechanical governor is mounted thereon in assembled position.
