  • Patent number: 7841246
Abstract: A device for measuring the length of a cable under tension moved through the device generally comprises a frame, a measuring pulley rotatably mounted on the frame; an anti-slip device for rollingly holding the midsection of the cable in a non-slipping manner against the measuring pulley such that movement of the cable rotates the measuring pulley, and a rotation sensor for sensing the rotation of the measuring pulley and producing a signal indicative of the rotation thereof. The anti-slip device generally comprises one or more loading rollers and a loading assembly including a flexible tension member for applying loading to the loading rollers such that movement of the cable rotates the measuring pulley. • Publication number: 20100071453
Abstract: An apparatus to accurately detect a force acting on a tire, based on a stress acting on a connection mechanism that connects a wheel and a wheel support member. A tire-acting-force detection apparatus is applied to a vehicle including a wheel unit composed of a wheel and a tire held at an outer circumferential portion of the wheel; a wheel support member which supports the wheel by a wheel support portion perpendicular to a rotation axis such that the wheel can rotate about the rotation axis; and a connection mechanism which connects a circular plate portion of the wheel and a wheel support portion of the wheel support member at a plurality of positions separated from one another about the rotation axis. The tire-acting-force detection apparatus includes a plurality of detection elements detecting stresses acting on each bolt, and an electronic circuit apparatus calculating a tire acting force, which acts at the ground contact point of the tire, based on the detected stresses.

  • Patent number: 6892589
Abstract: The invention relates to a proof testing method and a proof testing apparatus for optical fibre where a fibre (1) is guided to a first pulling device (2) and further to a second pulling device (3) and then onto a reel (11, 12), whereby the pulling devices subject the fibre to a desired amount of tensile strength, as a result of which the fibre breaks if the fibre (1) strength is insufficient. To achieve a continuous pulling and proof testing process, the fibre end is guided in the case of a fibre break between the first and the second pulling device (2, 3) by means of a first channel section (5), which guides the fibre to the second pulling device (3). After the second pulling device (3) the fibre end is guided into a second channel section (8) which is off the normal fibre track and along which the fibre (1) is guided into a scrap fibre processing system. At a desired moment the fibre (1) is guided from the second channel section (8) to the normal track, along which the fibre is guided onto a reel (11, 12).

  • Publication number: 20040237665
Abstract: The invention relates to a measuring method in particular for the strip tension and the line force of a strip conveyor system, in which the strip is guided so as to wrap partially around a corotating measuring roller, which has at least one pressure sensor for measuring a pressure acting on a surface section of the measuring roller, and guided through a gap formed between the measuring roller and a backing roller. The pressure acting on a surface section of the measuring roller is measured by means of the pressure sensor at least at two rotational positions of the measuring roller. The rotational angle of the measuring roller is measured relative to a reference position. The invention is based on the basic idea of measuring the variation of a pressure acting on a surface section of the measuring roller over at least part of the rotation of the measuring roller.

  • Patent number: 6588088
Abstract: A wire tensioning apparatus and method tensions one or more wires by moving the tensioning function from a wire module to an apparatus external to the wire module. Externally to the wire module, a wire is attached to a fixed end and a movable end. Tension is placed on the wire, and the tension in the wire or the vibrational frequency of the wire is detected and compared to a desired value. If the tension in, or the vibrational frequency of, the tensioned wire does not correspond to the desired value, the tension is further adjusted until the desired value is met. Once the desired tension or the vibrational frequency is met, the wire is secured in the wire module in order to maintain the achieved tension and/or vibrational frequency.

  • Patent number: 6583783
Abstract: To trigger technical control operations and/or to trigger the execution of technical functions, a manually operated input device with a torque-force sensor is used. Pressure is exerted onto a user interface of this input device and results in the generation of a pulse, which is measured with the aid of the force-torque sensor and converted into a pair of vectors formed by a force vector and a moment vector. This vector pair is then checked to determine whether certain predefined characteristic pulse conditions have been met. If these predefined pulse conditions are identified as having been met, at least one technical control operation that is to be performed by means of the input device and linked to a certain object, and/or at least one technical function to be executed by means of the input device, is triggered by switching to an activation state.

  • Patent number: 6422096
Abstract: A load cell comprises a member for receiving forces applied by the load, and a plurality of force sensing elements supported by the member and arranged with respect, to each other to independently sense differently directed components of the applied forces. The member is disposed, e.g., in a horizontal plane for receiving the load forces, and the force sensing elements are strain gages. One of the strain gages is arranged to sense a component of the forces applied in a vertical direction relative to the plane, and a second strain gage is arranged to sense a component of the forces applied in a horizontal direction relative to the plane. Among other advantages, the load cell is highly versatile can be used to measure loading forces applied in virtually any direction.
