  • Patent number: 5724866
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling a car equipped with an automatic transmission having a lockup clutch. According to the control method of the present invention, when the lockup clutch is in the lockup state, a variation of a generated torque is detected. When the range of the torque variation detected exceeds a predetermined value, an engine torque is reduced by controlling the engine, and the automatic transmission is controlled to compensate for a reduction of the driving torque due to a reduction of the engine torque. Thus, the speed change ratio is changed to the low gear side.

  • Patent number: 5642644
Abstract: A control system and process for an infinitely variable transmission which has a first operating mode which automatically selects the transmission ratio, and a second operating mode in which the transmission ratio can be selected directly by the driver. According to the invention, the degree of damping effective during the adjustment of the transmission ratio is adjusted in response to the selected operating mode. In the automatic operating mode, a high degree of damping is used, while in the manual operating mode, a lower degree of damping is provided.

  • Patent number: 5514040
Abstract: A pulley mounted at the output of a drive shaft is used in a variable-speed belt drive in which pairs of generally cylindrical toothed flyweights engage toothed racks in order to vary the winding diameter of the pulley by varying the centrifugal force. A V-belt is placed around the pulley. As a result of using the pulley, a more accurate adjustment of the diameter is achieved, maximum engine power is maintained under conditions of severe loading, and the response time of the diameter varying system is reduced in the case of an abrupt load change.

  • Patent number: 5103693
Abstract: A control system for a hybrid transmission of a motor vehicle comprises a vehicle speed sensor and a control unit. In the control unit, a deceleration is calculated. When the deceleration is greater than the predetermined deceleration value under a condition where the vehicle speed is less than a predetermined vehicle speed value, a switch is effected from a torque delivery path through a continuously variable transmission mechanism to a torque delivery path through a gearing mechanism. Thus, there occurs no slip between a V-belt and a driver pulley in the continuously variable mechanism upon acceleration immediately after rapid deceleration.

  • Patent number: 4328877
Abstract: An automatic two-speed drive system for a vehicle having two drive wheels. A first drive wheel is connected to the drive source through a low-speed hub which is disengaged when the wheel reaches a pre-determined rotational speed. The second drive wheel is connectable to the drive source through a high-speed hub which becomes engaged when the drive source reaches a pre-determined rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 4305488
Abstract: A vehicle accessory drive assembly incorporates a speed-increasing planetary gear set with an engine-driven carrier input. A flywheel output is engaged with the ring gear through an overrunning clutch. A shiftable power train couples the output side of the vehicle transmission with the sun gear so that normally the output speed range is compressed relative to the input speed range. Accessory speeds are increased when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running at idle. Changing accessory torque demands are satisfied smoothly. Upon application of the vehicle braking system, the power train is shifted so that the flywheel overruns the ring gear. Some of the energy which would be lost in the braking effort or during engine deceleration is absorbed by the flywheel, and is used to help drive the accessories.

  • Patent number: 4276037
Abstract: A drive mechanism having drive and driven shafts for automatically providing increased torque when the loading on the driven shaft is increased beyond a predetermined limit, for example upon start-up of a loaded conveyor. The shafts are interconnected by a pair of sprockets and chain drive assemblies of differing ratios. Under normal loading the output shaft is driven through a friction clutch by the sprocket and chain drive assembly providing the highest output speed. Under heavy loading, the friction clutch begins slipping and a one-way clutch is activated to drive the output shaft through the lower speed sprocket and chain drive assembly.
