Additionally, the shift mechanism can include a second stop mounted on the other of the shift pawl or the shift lever, the second stop being operable to engage a third one of the pins to prevent over-rotation of the drum in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 6230862
Abstract: The actuating arrangement includes a torque transmitting system that includes a first device for initiating, discontinuing or regulating the transmission of torque. A transmission includes a second device for initiating a gear shifting operation within one of a plurality of gear shifting paths. The transmission further includes a third device for initiating the gear ratio selecting operation among the gear shifting paths. An electronic control unit is operatively connected to at least one actor. The at least one actor activates in a predetermined manner, one of the first device, second device and third device for the initiation of the transmission of torque, gear shifting or gear ratio selecting operation.

  • Patent number: 6230577
Abstract: Shift control assembly for a power transmission device includes an electric drive motor and gear train having an output which is coupled to and bi-directionally rotates a shift rail. The shift rail includes a pair of spaced-apart cam followers. Freely rotatably receiving the shift rail and disposed thereon between the cam followers is a shift fork assembly. The shift fork assembly includes a body having a pair of spaced-apart helical cam surfaces engaged by the cam followers and a fork engaging a shift clutch collar. As the shift rail rotates bi-directionally, the shift fork assembly and clutch collar bi-directionally translate. A circular plate is disposed for rotation with the shift rail and includes an array of apertures. A plurality of sensors are disposed in adjacent, sensing relationship to the circular plate.

  • Patent number: 6220109
Abstract: The present invention proposes a power train and the operation thereof, suitable for automated actuation of a transmission shiftable between a plurality of gears with a torque transmitting system being actuated automatically at least during a gear change, at least one actuating element operable by at least one drive unit and at least one actuatable shift element being disposed at the transmission side. The invention provides a power train in which a driving connection is disposed between at least one actuatable shift element associated with the transmission and an actuator having at least one drive unit, and at least one presettable elastic means is provided in the power transmitting path of the driving connection between the drive unit and the at least one shift element. Further, at least one additional presettable elastic element can be disposed in the power transmitting path between the at least one actuating element and the at least one shift element on the transmission side.

  • Patent number: 6173624
Abstract: An integrated cam and shift fork assembly is disposed on a rotating shift rail. The shift fork assembly includes a cylindrical body having a helical cam at one end. Adjacent the cam end of the body is a cam follower secured to the rotating shift rail. The opposite end of the body either includes a second cam and suitably disposed cam follower or a flat surface engaged by a return spring. The rotating shift rail is driven by an electric motor through a suitable speed reducing and torque increasing drive such as a worm gear set. One or both of the aforementioned cam configurations may be utilized in a transfer case on a single shift rail to, for example, select a high or low speed range, couple the primary and secondary drive lines together or both.

  • Patent number: 6173623
Abstract: A dual speed film drive apparatus to achieve high speed and low speed film drive employs a limited speed range stepper motor with pinion input drive gear, and an output driven gear connected to a film advance mechanism. High and low speed drive is achieved by use of a pivoted intermediate gear drive module having high speed and low speed gear set positions to interconnect the stepper motor input drive gear to the output driven gear. Shifting of the gear module between gear set positions is accomplished by a DC motor operated cam drive mechanism which pivots the gear module selectively between the high speed and low speed gear set positions. An open loop control gear mesh procedure is also described for meshing the high speed and low speed intermediate gear drives with the input drive gear and output driven gear.
