  • Patent number: 4726260
Abstract: A shiftable transmission drive with assured input-output relationship includes a drive motor-transmission mechanism wherein a drive motor drives an output shaft at different rates through a shiftable transmission, and wherein the output shaft is always connected with the drive motor through the shiftable transmission. The output shaft is thus always under control and its position precisely known. The shift position of the gears is known. Shifting is directed at predetermined positions by a microprocessor when the transmission is stopped or at low speeds of rotation. The drive is a direct drive or alternatively a gear ratioed drive.

  • Patent number: 4643037
Abstract: A gear change mechanism for a machine tool in which shifting forks with sliding gears and constant mesh gearing using clutch and/or brake shifting is eliminated. A shiftable gear mechanism is presented in a gear train for meshing engagement with any one of a plurality of gears for selectively varying the speed of the machine spindle. The shiftable gear mechanism includes a first rotatable shaft and a second shaft connected to a cluster gear positioned to slide and rotate the second shaft in relation to the first shaft. A cylinder apparatus is connected coaxially to the second shaft to slide the second shaft in a reciprocating manner along the first shaft so as to move the cluster gear and vary the gear ratios between the cluster gear and the other gears in the gear train. A bearing assembly is also utilized in conjunction with the second slidable shaft so as to prevent any sliding action between the cluster gear and the shifting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4611504
Abstract: A transaxle especially for use with small tractors, power equipment and the like wherein a range transmission is incorporated within a speed transmission to provide a unique drive that provides three forward and one reverse normal speed drives and two or three forward creep speed drives of extreme reduction ratio. Also shown, in variation, is a planetary epicyclic gear train that replaces the reverting gear trains currently employed in these transaxles to provide for more compact and economical construction. In one variation a friction drive clutch is contained within the transaxle receiving an input from a primary reduction gear and providing an input to the speed transmission mainshaft.

  • Patent number: 4610583
Abstract: A horizontal drilling and milling machine having a spindle head which can be rotated about an axis set at 45.degree. to a horizontal plane. The spindle head can be arrested in the horizontal and vertical working positions of the spindle sleeve by means of a support housing. The spindle sleeve can be driven via a gear system. • Patent number: 4560118
Abstract: A drive mechanism for fishing reels is disclosed which includes a spool supported on bearings and a shaft, carried in spaced side plates of a reel frame. The reel includes a cam operated brake mechanism which includes a plurality of stops, with an axially slidable spool shaft. One of the bearings carries a shaft supporting a bearing and drive mechanism which includes a handle, positioning pin and gears slidably mounted on shafts, which upon selective manipulation will engage one of two sets of gears, thereby determining the drive ratio available to the handle for varying the speed of spool rotation as desired. The gear ratios are selected to provide that upon backward or counterclockwise handle rotation against the stops, the teeth of the gears of the lower ratio will always be angularly aligned with the internal teeth of the ring gear to provide for gear shifting.

  • Patent number: 4497220
Abstract: An epicyclic planetary gear system having a plurality of partially meshed straight-cut primary and secondary planetary gears slidably mounted in a slidable differential housing and partially meshed with respective straight-cut input and output gears. Forward drive is achieved in each of a plurality of forward drive ranges by the respective coupling of the primary planet gears with the secondary planet gears and output gear and the secondary planet gears with the input gear. Reverse drive is similarly achieved for each of the forward ranges via the coupling of the input gear only with the secondary planet gears and the output gear only with the primary planet gears, while restraining rotation of the differential housing.

  • Patent number: 4449866
Abstract: A servo system for the rotary spindle of a machine tool in which the spindle is driven by a drive motor through a gear train having shiftable gears for changing the rate of rotation of the spindle. The transducer for the servo system is mounted directly on the motor drive shaft in order to avoid all backlash between the resolver and the drive motor. However, the transducer is arranged to regulate the angular orientation of the spindle and must therefore be maintained in synchronism with the spindle. This is accomplished by arranging the shiftable gears so that when they are moving into engagement with a new gear, engagement with the previously engaged gear is maintained until initial engagement with the new gear is achieved. Further shifting movement into full engagement with the new gear operates to release the previously engaged gear. Thus, during the initial engagement with the new gear, the shiftable gear is momentarily in engagement with both gears.

  • Patent number: 4423645
Abstract: A spinner for turning a well drilling kelly or the like and including a member connectible to the kelly to drive it rotatively, a reversible motor, and a drive between the rotor of the motor and said member including two gears for driving the member in opposite directions respectively, with the two gears being mounted by threaded connections for axial movement between active driving positions and retracted non-driving positions. Rotation of the motor acts by virtue of a threaded connection or connections to shift one of the gears to its active driving position to turn the driven member in a first direction, while retaining the second of the gears in its retracted position. Rotation of the motor in the opposite direction acts to shift the second of the gears to active position driving the member in its second direction while retracting the first of the gears to its inactive position.

  • Patent number: 4116084
Abstract: A gear disengaging mechanism for use in a movable toy which mechanism disengages automatically the engagement between a first gear receiving the rotation from a driving section and a second gear being pushed by a spring. The bearing hole for the shaft of the second gear is a slot in which one end portion of the shaft is moved. The shaft that is moved in the bearing hole is urged toward one side by the spring member one end of which is fixed to a frame body, thus gears are releasably engaged together. When a gear on the driven side is forcibly stopped, the gear shaft is shifted along the bearing hole against the force of the spring member and the engagement of gears is released. Further, between the driving section and the driven section is disposed a gear changing mechanism with which the gear change is carried out by moving a gear shaft in its axial direction.
