  • Patent number: 9879759
Abstract: The device is a precision motion right angle drive for use with linear and rotary stages which employs a combination of globoid worm and small diameter star gear. Coaxial with the star gear, on the same shaft, is a spur gear which drives the rotary stage gear or a linear rack. The thin star gear achieves meshing accuracy with the globoid worm permitting a large tooth angle for direct preloading without jamming. This gear combination eliminates backlash, allows a low gear ratio for low globoid worm speed, and enables the use of an ordinary spur gear to engage the stage gear without backdrive or backlash. Further, it allows for gear contact area to compensate for the thinness of the star gear. An embodiment including an integrated bearing rotary stage permits flexibility of application and avoidance of need for custom bearing designs by achieving high motion precision at low cost.

Abstract: A system that prevents the engagement of an intermediate gear and a driven gear from releasing due to a force from the driven gear without increasing an arrangement angle is described. A surface receiving a load acting on a rotation axis of a second groove that is used as an axle bearing formed on the side of a second gear part that engages with a driven gear is made to be an inclined receiving part. The second receiving surface touches the rotation axis of the second groove part. The surfaces are arranged such that the distance from the center of rotation of the driving gear increases as it moves away from the driven gear. By this arrangement, the inclined receiving part creates a force in the opposite direction of the direction to release the intermediate gear from the driven gear that acts upon the rotation axis as the counteraction of the force that acts on the rotation axis, so the intermediate gear does not separate from the driven gear.

The C-axis driving system also includes a worm shaft with a worm formed therein directed perpendicular to an axis of the spindle and placed so as to be pivotable about a pivotal shaft between an engagement position, and a disengagement position. The C-axis driving system also includes a C-axis driving motor connected to the worm shaft and serving to rotationally index the spindle to a specified rotational angle. The pivotal shaft is provided on the worm shaft base so as to be directed perpendicular to an axis of the worm shaft. Thus, the C-axis driving system for machine tools is capable of reducing the size of the C-axis unit as well as the cost while allowing a smooth engagement with the worm wheel.

Abstract: A drive axle assembly is provided that includes an axle housing having a cavity. A differential case is disposed within the cavity. The ring gear is supported on the differential case such as by fastening the ring gear to a flange extending from the differential case. A pinion cage eccentrically supports the driveshaft and pinion, which are rotatable about a first axis. The pinion cage may be used for different axle assemblies having different gear ratios. Moreover, the same differential case may be used for the different axle assemblies. The pinion cage is rotatable relative to the carrier housing between first and second positions in which the first axis is spaced from the ring gear first and second distances, respectively. In this manner, the pinion offset and gear mounting distance may be varied. The pinion cage is secured to the housing, preferably by fasteners, in one of the positions to accommodate a particular gearset.

  • Patent number: 6364803
Abstract: An adjustable pinion offset in a differential axle assembly. The offset between a pinion gear and shaft relative to a ring gear in the differential axle assembly is adjustable due to an eccentric mounting of the pinion assembly relative to the differential housing containing the ring gear. The pinion shaft is eccentrically mounted within a bore of the differential housing such that a simple rotation of the pinion assembly about the eccentric pilot mounting adjusts the position of the pinion shaft with respect to the ring gear to adjust pinion offset. Once properly positioned, the pinion assembly is secured to the differential housing to maintain the desired position. This invention substantially reduces the noise associated with gear offset error.

Abstract: A worm/worm gear assembly comprises a worm having teeth defined by at least one thread disposed thereon and a worm gear having teeth protruding from a surface thereof. At least one of the worm and the worm gear is fabricated from a resilient material. The teeth of the worm and the teeth of the worm gear are interengaged and in a compressive relationship with each other to maintain double flank contact therebetween. At low- or no-load conditions, the double flank contact is made at the opposing outer edges of each of the teeth. At moderate-load conditions, the contact extends from the opposing outer edges of each of the teeth toward the center of each of the teeth. A method for delashing a gear system comprises disposing the worm in mechanical communication with the worm gear and loading the worm gear to cause the worm gear to compressively engage the worm.
