  • Patent number: 5893670
Abstract: A gear drive system for a printer designed to print upon a continuous roll of paper and having a blade used to cut off printed portions of paper from the paper roll is implemented. The gear drive system has a drive gear which slips against a toothless portion of a driven gear while paper is being fed through the printer for printing by a print head. When printing stops, the drive gear reverses its rotation, causing the driven gear to engage the drive gear. A cutter blade is controlled by the driven gear, with the blade cutting off the paper as the drive gear is in reverse rotation. After the paper is cut, the drive gear resumes its forward rotation, rotating the blade away from the paper. After the blade has been rotated, the drive gear continues to turn, but slips on the toothless portion of the driven gear. Friction losses are minimized as the energy lost as friction is low and full torque is applied to both cutting and opening rotations of the cutter blade.

  • Patent number: 5605072
Abstract: A driven gear (3a), a gear (11a) to a rotary solenoid (15a) and an output drive gear (19a) are mounted to rotate together, preferably as one part turning on a stationary shaft (7a). The driven gear and the output drive gear have disengagement sectors (5a and 20a). Activation of the solenoid turns the driven gear into engagement with a normally turning drive gear (1a). Shortly after the sector on the output gear is cleared, and the load (27) is driven through engagement with driven gear (23a). After one cycle, the detent force of the solenoid positions the sector 5a so that engagement is terminated. Because the rotary solenoid need only move the gears 3a, 11a and 19a, the size of the load is immaterial to the physical requirements for the solenoid and its reliability of operation.

Abstract: A rotary encoder includes a train of gears meshed together in a multi-stage so as to reduce the driving number successively and encoders provided with the gear shafts in desired stages in order to count the number of revolutions of a power input shaft. The driving wheel and its corresponding driven wheel between desired two stages of the train of the gears are formed into such intermittent feed means as permitting idling of the driving wheel by cutting off suitable parts of the meshing portion of at least either one of the driving wheel and driven wheel in accordance with the reduction ratio required in driving number between the desired two stages. The present invention can thus provide economical and highly-accurate rotary encoders of the absolute type, which has a wide counterable range, without need for especially-high accuracy with respect to their designing accuracy, the machining accuracy of their gears, assembling accuracy and the like.

Abstract: A conveyor system for use with rotary screw conveyors located side by side has a mechanical arrangement allowing individually adjusting the speed of each conveyor. One end of each conveyor has driven teeth disposed in a circle and coaxial with the rotation axis of the conveyor. Each conveyor is rotated by a circular disk rotating about an axis normal to the axis of the conveyor and provided with driving teeth disposed in a circle on the disk and positioned to mesh with the driven teeth of the conveyor. The driving teeth of each disk are individually mounted so that they may be moved between a working position where they mesh with the companion conveyor driven teeth and a non-working position where they are retracted wholly within the disk. By thus retracting some of the disk teeth, the rotation of the companion conveyor may be step-like, thus controlling its conveying capacity.

  • Patent number: 4347919
Abstract: A one revolution clutch assembly is provided which transmits the rotation of a normally rotating drive shaft to a driven rotating body through gears and which interrupts the rotation of the driven body when it has rotated through one revolution. The one revolution clutch assembly includes a drive gear mounted on the drive shaft and which meshes with a driven gear on the driven body. The driven gear is formed with a hiatus along part of its periphery, and when the hiatus is located opposite to the drive gear, the rotation of the driven gear is interrupted. The driven gear is maintained in this position where it ceases to rotate, by a cam mounted on the driven assembly and formed with a notch which is engaged by a movable piece of an electromagnetic plunger. A crank lever has its one end rotatably mounted on the driven assembly, and imparts a rotating force to the driven gear to cause a meshing engagement of the driven gear with the drive gear when the driven gear is located at said position.
