Abstract: A chain drive for pivot chains (7) or round link chains (8) having spur gears (2) and a polygonal chain wheel (10) reduces variations in velocity and acceleration transferred to the chains (7), (8). The driven gear wheel (3a) and the driving gear wheel (4a) consist of noncircular gear wheels having a set gear ratio adjustment so that the driving gear wheel (4a) is put in such a position to the driven gear wheel (3a) so that the slowest angular velocity coincides with the corners (29a) of the polygon of the chain wheel (10) and the fastest angular velocity occurs at the middle of the polygon straight lines (29b) of the chain wheel.

Abstract: A rotary vane motor uses a gear train arrangement for controlling the position of the vanes as well as the compression ratio of the motor. The motor includes a first pair of vanes namely a leading and trailing vane defining a working chamber therebetween and an opposed second pair of vanes namely a leading and trailing vane defining therebetween a second working chamber. Preferably the motor uses a pair of second order elliptical gears for controlling movement of the vanes to define an intake stage, a compression stage, an expansion stage, and an exhaust stage. In a preferred structure of the motor both the intake port and the exhaust port are movable to change or alter the intake stage and the exhaust stage respectively.

Abstract: An infinitely-variable transmission comprises a rotational input member, a rotational output member, first and second non-circular driving gears coupled to one of the rotational members, and a plurality of variable velocity-ratio gear assemblies disposed about the one rotational member. Each gear assembly comprises an intermediate shaft including first and second non-circular driven gears respectively meshing with the first and second non-circular driving gears. Each gear assembly also comprises a multi-directional coupling associated with the pair of first driven/driving gears and the pair of second driven/driving gears, and an actuator for coupling the first and second variable-ratio gear pairs to the rotational members. The transmission also includes a phase angle variator associated with the variable-ratio gear pairs for varying the rotational angular displacement between the first gear pairs and the second gear pairs of each gear assembly so as to vary the velocity ratio of the transmission as needed.

Abstract: This invention includes a sprocket assembly for facilitating the derailing of the chain of a bicycle transmission and other prime movers. The first embodiment of the invention relates to a sprocket gear having at least two sprockets axially and concentrically positioned relative to one another. Each sprocket includes a non-circular configuration having at least one long radius and at least one short radius. The sprockets being axially aligned adjacent to one another such that the short radius of one sprocket is axially substantially aligned with and substantially equal in length with said long radius of an adjacent sprocket. The second embodiment of the present invention provides a sprocket assembly having two sprockets with the tooth being displaced by less than one tooth relative to each other. Thus, it is possible to vary the relationship between the teeth of the small sprocket and the chain to engage these teeth without having to vary the phase relationship between the larger and smaller sprockets.

Abstract: A cutter device has a movable blade, a stationary blade, and a clutch mechanism having a driven gear mounted for undergoing rotation in clockwise and counterclockwise directions and a driving gear for rotationally driving the driven gear about a rotational axis. A cutter drive mechanism has a rotation device connected to the clutch mechanism so that through one complete rotation of the driven gear the rotation device reciprocally moves the movable blade between a first region in which the movable blade is spaced apart from the stationary blade and a second region in which the movable blade cooperates with the stationary blade to cut recording paper. A rotation regulating device regulates rotation of the driven gear in the counterclockwise direction when the movable blade is in the first position.

  • Patent number: 6684743
Abstract: A gear drive system for a printer designed to print upon a continuous roll of paper and having a blade used to cut off printed portions of paper from the paper roll is implemented. The gear drive system consists of a drive shaft 330, a slip clutch 401, a clutch gear 116, a drive gear 110, and a staggered gear 112 which controls the paper cutter blade 106. During printing, clutch 401 allows the drive shaft 330 shaft to slip relative to the clutch gear 116. When printing stops, clutch 401 locks clutch gear 116 which is engaged with the first portion of staggered gear 112 and causes staggered gear 112 to rotate until the second portion of staggered gear 112 engages the drive gear 110. Staggered gear 112 is then driven by the drive gear 110. A cutter blade is controlled by staggered gear 112, with the blade cutting off the paper as the drive gear 110 is in reverse rotation.
